View Full Version : Cast Your Hype Votes

Stinger

We'll be updating the Hype-O-Meter very soon, and would like to take into account the feelings of our readers (as that is supposed to be half of the hype rankings). So, I have an easy question: which of these games, after reading all of our E3 coverage, are you excited about? Please note you can select as few or as many as you like. If you rank your choices in your thread reply, that helps also.

Please be aware that only games that have not yet had an English language release are eligible--thus Missing is disqualified. Also we haven't included Legacy: Dark Shadows because we have no interest in including it right now after all of the missed release dates.

Have fun!

WOOHOO! I get first vote and can revel in the wonder that for one brief, shining moment adventuregamers.com can be about good adventure games instead of what the majority of the membership wants to turn adventure games into.

Check your PM's at JA, Evan. ;)

[EDIT: That was tongue-in-cheek making fun of my own set-in-2000-year-old-concrete attitudes as much as it was poking fun at AG. I hope folks realize that.]

There will be no hesitation in purchasing my 4 picks as soon as they are available. All of the other choices will have to wait until I've heard some feedback from forums and reviewers.
1-Myst IV
2-Dark Fall 2
3-Aura

...Because Adventure Gamers has made the decision that they won't look at 'Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude' as an adventure game (which it isn't, either) and eliminated it from the Hype-O-Meter. They will, however, continue with the updates on the game and will review it when that time comes. :)

Wow! We're so spoiled for choice at the moment. For me, 2,3,4 and 5 and very interchangable. I intend to buy 1,2 and 6 almost no matter what, 3,4,5 are pretty certain and 7,8,9 and 10 I'm very likely to buy and 11 I'm interested in. Damn I better start saving up...

It is interesting to see how Legacy: Dark Shadows completely disappeared from Hype-O-Meter and polls. On the other hand, this thread(poll aside) has strong deja vu feeling written all over it :D I think this is third thread with people's personal list of most hyped AGs.

Edit: but, anything that helps Stinger, so here goes:

1. Dreamfall
2. Fahrenheit
3. Moment of Silence
4. Still Life
5. Westerner

Good. I was going to make such a poll, but as I'd be limited to ten options (or would I? There certainly was a limit in the past), it's better this way. I voted for Dreamfall, Fahrenheit and Westerner - in that order. However, there is at least one notable omission - Frogwares' Sherlock Holmes: Silver Earring. I believe it could easily replace BASS or Runaway sequels, of which we know - nothing, really.

Well, like Stinger I've got Fahrenheit and Dreamfall at the top of my list, with other titles after and only if I feel like playing them. I'm hoping Still Life really does turn out to be a highly refined and well thought game, not half-ass like Post Mortem, which had a really, really great premise. I'm sick of traditional adventures turning out crap and mediocre.

I'm a fan of Traditional adventure games, so here are the games I'm most excited about.

1. Still Life: It sounds like a very interesting mystery game, yet very creepy at the same time.

2. Moment of Silence: I did like The Mystery of the Druids, but this one looks like a definite improvement. Plus, the story sounds exciting.

3. The Westerner: It's been a long time since I played a cartoon adventure game that's in the vein of The Curse of Monkey Island. So I'm looking forward to playing this game.

4. Runaway 2: Despite all of the mixed opinions on the first game, I really enjoyed it. So naturally, I'm anxious to play the sequel.

I'm also anticipiating Myst IV, Dreamfall, and the next Nancy Drew game.

I picked Runaway 2, Dreamfall, Lost Paradise, and the Law & Order game. I don't know much about any of the others, but I tend not to read preview stuff unless I already have an interest in the game (in these cases, because I liked the original game or think the developers are good or both).

This goes against my religion as a Jane Jensen fanatic, but I just can't get hyped about a game with the word "booby" in the title. Maybe it's just my juvenile sense of humor. Oh well. (But I just spilled coffee all over myself and my keyboard, so maybe my God is trying to tell me something?)

Are you kidding? That's half the reason I'm looking forward to it! :D

Anyway, I forgot about Lost Paradise. Nuts. I voted for Dreamfall, Booby Trap, and BASS2. I'm kind of surprised BASS2 isn't getting more votes. Same with Lost Paradise. Right now those two and Dreamfall look like about the only adventure games worth waiting for. And Booby Trap will probably be worth playing just because it's Jane Jensen.

Oh come on, what in the world does Atlantis Evolution have to do with Cryo? That was the whole point of our preview; you should have left your predispositions about the old Atlantis games a long, long time ago. Cryo is long gone, this is a different studio and a totally different game.

Does anyone still remember the Cryo that made Dune and Lost Eden? Oh man.

"Uluru(?) lies to the north". I heard that line from Lost Eden a million times. That's because I forgot I could access the world map, and kept looking for "the north" in a small local region. But as soon as I figured that one out, it was actually a great game...

I voted for four games in the poll: Dreamfall, Fahrenheit, The Moment of Silence, and Still Life.

Dreamfall: I voted Dreamfall: The Longest Journey for obvious reasons. It looks like it has everything that made the first game awesome with the addition of new stuff that looks like it will evolve the genre. That's always good.

Fahrenheit: I voted for Fahrenheit for similar reasons to Dreamfall. It looks like it has the potential to evolve the genre. Also the storyline sounds pretty interesting. Adventure Gamers preview has me excited about this game.

The Moment of Silence: The Moment of Silence looks like it's shaping up to be a traditional 2D Point-and-Click adventure game. It's cool to have these new innovative games, but it's also good to have some traditional stuff. I'm a fan of sci-fi and the storyline sounds interesting.

Still Life: Still Life is my type of game. I prefer more serious adventure games and this games storyline sounds like it fits this criteria. It's also a traditional 2D Point-and-Click adventure game like The Moment of Silence. The story sounds like it will be awesome. Also I like games that let you take evidence and investigate as an FBI Agent or a police officer. The GameSpot trailer reminded me of The X-Files Game and Police Quest 4.

I didn't vote for Booby Trap, despite the fact that I'm a Jane Jensen fan. The game looks like it'll be decent and it looks like it could introduce lots of people to adventures, but it's not the reason I like Jane Jensen. I like Jensen for the serious, elaborate, and deep storylines featured in her games. A game that I'm looking forward too that isn't featured in this poll is Law & Order: Criminal Intent. It looks like they're making a game true to this awesome television series. It also looks more adventure like then the other L&O games.

I am going to draw a little line. Beneath it there will be no discussion of Jim's little post. Hopefully at this point he's more than revealed to everyone that, at least around these parts, he's nothing but the local forum troll. That was a blatant attempt to egg people into starting a fight. Let's just move on with the regular discussion.

Oop, here comes the line....

I agre with D.C. about Booby Trap, except that since Evan keeps talking it up I am going to force myself to pay attention to it. :)

Jake
06-08-2004, 07:12 PM
Okay, a couple words.

First, its funny that I've murdered this thread with my post up there.

Second, especially coming from someone on AG staff, what I said was pretty inappropriate. I'd just like to apologize to Jim for my blatant namecalling, labeling, immaturity, what have you. Sorry, Jim.

Stinger
06-08-2004, 07:20 PM
And I'd like to add to that, that in no way should a staff member calling Jim a troll indicate that we as a site feel that way. Jim is a former writer on this site who contributed many excellent reviews. He's also a very frequent and valuable contributor on this forum, and I think he's been painted with a broad brush a bit too much here. I understand Jim a lot better after some actual conversation with him, and I would like to see him treated with a bit more respect--not more than anyone else, just the same amount due to him as a normal person.

Now, I will draw a line, and everything below this line must be light-hearted and non-serious.
