View Full Version : Armed & Dangerous box art

I haven't got any sort of clue if this game will suck or be good, but Planet Moon doesn't suck (see: MDK, Giants: Citizen Kabuto), and Schafer said really nice things about it at E3... and uh aside from that it was pretty fun to play at the LucasArts press day and had actual good comedy writing in the cutscenes... and giant sharks that come out of the ground, and a gun that turns the levels upside down... yes.

Sounds good and fun! However, I don't own an Xbox, so it's ultimately of no interest to me unless it makes it to PC. Bleh!

As far as I know it's shipping on XBox and PC. There was some interview somewhere with one of the Planet Moon guys talking about how the PC version's graphics were going to be scaled up to whatever the best video hardware was at the time of release... he was mentioning that the PC version could use the models from cutscene closeup shots as the main in game models or something.

:7 Now, that's what I wanna hear! But is it official? I thought it was to be an Xbox exclusive.

Take a band of gun-toting rebels, give them an impossible mission and you get Armed & Dangerous™, a new action-shooter for Xbox™ and PC.
Better yet, seeing how it's damned, you probably did the right think not following it. :D

No, A&D is for XBOX and PC. I have it in my notes from the press day, and if you still don't believe me, you can check the website:

I think this game looks awesome. If nothing else, it'll be worth playing for the shark gun, the topsy-turvy, and the cutscene dialog :)

Xbox-exclusive games generally have an "ONLY FOR XBOX!" (or something) logo on the front, which this box cover doesn't have.
In any case, looks like it'll be some goofy fun at least :)

True, but five of the six MDK team members ended up founding Planet Moon, and then the sixth one (re-)joined up too this June.

That box art is good. And the game is probably good too. I fondly remember placing the World's Smallest Nuke in front of a door in MDK. I still think that game was underrated. It doesn't seem like it ever made a big splash, but it should've.

Marek: On the contrary, I remember huge buzz for that game when it came out. I don't have any actual sales figures, but I definitely recall people hearing talk about it constantly. After all, I was purely an adventure gamer back then, so for me to have heard so much about an action game, it must have been pretty well-known ;)

I loved MDK, and I agree; it was underrated. MDK2 was also a good sequel...
Anyone remember that french music video that appeared at the ending? I can still remember the tune... :)

I just watched the trailer, and I was really surprised at how good it looks! It's totally got that signature Shiny/Planet Moon/whoever sense of humor. Here's just another game causing me to want an Xbox...

Yeah, I remember it got a lot of publicity. They also promoted the game very extensively, I remember having posters and a calandar that came with games magazines.

Oh yes, I clearly remember the ads. They played with the "MDK" acronym.
I just thought that it wasn't particularly well-received among gamers. I mean, people liked it, but not a lot of people talked about it? I didn't have internet back then though, so I may be wrong.

I think you're right -- people liked it, but didn't talk about it. But a lot of people liked it. I think it was just more "popular" to talk about what ever's the latest thing id's shoveled out.

I suppose that could have been the case then in my situation as well. I certainly didn't have the internet even within a few years of that game's release, so maybe I'm just remembering a lot of hype from game magazines and so forth.

Well, when's it coming out? November?
I think though MDK was more successful, both MDK and Giants had a little bit of the Grim Fandango phenomonon going on where everyones going nuts about the game, and journalists love it and stuff, but then it ships and sells really crap. I don't know if MDK did that as much as Giants did. Both are awesome games. I remember being extremely pleased when Apple bundled MDK with the original iMac. I wish there had been a Mac port of Grim to be bundled like that. Probably would have gone over well with Mac users really :) Anyway yeah Armed & Dangerous has potential to rule.

GameSpot says 12/2, though.

The box looks decent but not something out of the top. But well, giants didn't have a "great" box, just showing the chars :D
I wait this to go really good, after Giants and if they give the game far more good thingies, like the "get the world upside-down to kill the enemies" it sure gonna rock...........i have faith in them *thumps up*
LucasArts recently told me December 2, 2003 is ship date.

EBGames.com (http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/235398.asp) has the PC version for preorder. Through Monday afternoon you can get free one-day shipping on it (in the US), but the real kicker is the bonus CD that comes with it:
Pre-order and receive a free bonus CD! Features a revealing look at the concept art and back story that inspired the Armed and Dangerous game, cinematic cut scene from the dramatic and thrilling opening, and a music sampler from the Armed and Dangerous soundtrack! Also includes the complete, animated adventure game of Sam & Max: Hit the Road! I believe the word I'm looking for is... damn.

And more original franchises. Star Wars is all and good, but it's about time LucasArts started fixing their image (viewed by the public as 'That Star Wars game company'), hopefully this game will help them attain that goal.

Ugh. I hate all this preorder stuff... American gamers keep getting all these fancy items and collectibles, while this phenomenon is totally non-existant in Europe. ;( What I really hate is the whole "Sorry, we didn't order any copies of that game. You should have preordered if you wanted it" phenomenon. In my opinion, gauging the number of people who want a game by how many people order it in advance is not a valid form of market research. Other than that, I don't mind preorders. There just aren't that many games I want that much. Incentives like this get my attention, though. :)
So, Royal Fool, just out of curiosity, would you be a bigger fan of preorders if the incentives were available to you, or are you opposed to the concept in general?
Also, I wonder if this version of Sam and Max is XP-compatible... Not that it matters to me. My computer can't handle A&D so I'll be waiting for the Xbox version. But, still, it would be nice.

I agree. It's understandable that they may want to get people to pay upfront, but forcing them to do so by not ordering copies unless they are preordered (Or worse, lie to customers that they "should have preordered", even though the game is in stock in a backroom) is a bad way to do business.
So, Royal Fool, just out of curiosity, would you be a bigger fan of preorders if the incentives were available to you, or are you opposed to the concept in general?
Oh, I'd definitely be a bigger fan if it were available to me. :) I already preorder a lot of games from Amazon.co.uk or Play.com because the stores here are such slowpokes, so yeah, I wouldn't mind getting stuff in return.

James: Pewter figures? Wha?
I've never had that ("you should've pre-ordered it") happen to me, but if I did, I'm pretty sure I'd tell 'im, "Yeah, so I'm going to go to another EBgames store, then, and see if the guy there will let me buy the game. If he does, I'm going to pre-order 2 or 3 games. Stick that in the regional manager's pipe and smoke it." Then I'm going to tell the mall security that I didn't mean it, and was just a little upset. Then I'm going to think up some witty saying about it to put in my sig, so that I can vent without looking like I'm starved for attention (or so I'm going to believe).

Mhmmm... Armed&Dangerous. Splendid! It's one of the reasons for owning X-Box and not upgrading my too-old pc (this way it's cheaper - and I'll be able to play not only A&D but also Psychonauts and Broken Sword 3).
As for MDK I've heard from reliable source that it sold well over half million of copies. Figure.
And there was a lot of talk about this title from what I can recall.
