This is something that adventure gamers don't often talk about. The techniques and methods and "right approaches" to solving an adventure game. Of course, there are differences from one game to next but the general approach should remain the same. I am very interested to read how the best of the gamers out there do it, and maybe beginners to this wonderful genre can get a few pointers.
Let me start this thread by describing one of my own techniques - immersivness. It depends on how effective the game is, but in most cases, player can get immersed in the game if he/she simply relaxes and shuts out the rest of the world for the time of gameplay (in my case couple of hours at most, at night when it's quite). I found it hard to complete the game without looking at hints or in certain walkthrough sections if I am not "sucked into the game". If I am not immersed then my whole gaming experience seems like a cheap goal to finish it, while in contrast I prefer to "experience" the game and feel like I just read a good book or saw a good movie, but at the same time feel more rewarding, like I'm (hehehe, wait for it) - doing something useful.
