Getting this gem to run in its day was hard, now days it seems all but impossible. Are there any tips/pages related to getting this title to work specifically? I understand its no go at all in windows XP, but I've been trying to get it to run under Virtual PC running windows 98. It runs, but awfully and always crashes right after Mei Chin unties the chap who was mesmerising the cobra with a candle. A 'sprite' error occurs, which seems to suggest a speed issue :(

Am I doomed to never play this again? I wanted to get it working well for my parents as they're going to China in a week's time. They have a pretty swanky computer but its running XP. Maybe I can get it working on their box by the time they get back so they can have a peek inside the emperor's tomb after having seen it from the outside for real.

I was unable to get the game to run with any stability using the Windows DOS shell. The game pretty much has to be installed and run in regular DOS mode. Do you know how to make a DOS boot disk?

Try and use a utlity like Goslow or equivelant, and turn your processor speed right down. Other than that, try booting into DOS, if you can find your way around.

I believe you will likely have to get DosBox or VirtualPC in order to play Master Lu on Windows2000. The game runs in DOS, which isn't supported by the NT-based Windows systems.

DOSBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1). Another place to ask for help would be VOGONS (search google for it).

(Can't help you, myself...)

Sorry to dredge this up from about a month ago... but I don't want to create what amounts to a duplicate thread...

Has anyone gotten the Riddle of Master Lu to run under Win98SE? I've been trying with DOSBox with no luck... On the Master Lu CD it specifically mentions disabling Smart Drive to resolve memory issues which are almost always the reason why you can't install the game...

So um... Help! :)

I just remembered that I bought Riddle of Master Lu a couple of years ago but never got it to work. I guess I should try it with DosBox. I'll let you know if I succeed.

I just tried a short bit ago and it doesn't :( The DOSBox site also has it as Broken...

My computer is Win98. I successfully played Master Lu on it. But I could not do so using Windows. I HAD to boot my computer into DOS in order to do it. I also had to create a DOS boot disk that loaded my CD-ROM, mouse and sound drivers.

It was getting this game to run that actually taught me how to operate in DOS.

How do I go about making a proper DOS Boot Disk?

I've been wanting to finish this game for years... Got it what must have been 6 or 7 years ago for Christmas and then was never able to finish it b/c of a game glitch due to a scratched up CD. I was lucky enough to find a new CD a few years later being sold in the Ripley's Believe It or Not in Branson, Missouri, but by then I was on Windows 98 and it's been unplayable since :(

Hopefully now it'll be finishable! :)

Get a blank diskette and put it in your A: drive. Now go to My Computer and right-click on the A: drive. Select Format. To be safe, do a full format and not a quick one. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE BOX THAT SAYS TO "MAKE IT A SYSTEM DISKETTE."

Now you have a basic DOS diskette. You will next have to modify the autoexec.bat and config.sys on the diskette files to load your mouse, CD-ROM and sound drivers. This (http://www.computerhope.com/ac.htm) is a good beginner's site for helping you out on this.

Alright did that, but it only made me a Windows 98 bootdisk... I've got a DOS 6.22 Bootdisk maker from www.bootdisk.com so it doesn't really matter...

Trying to figure out the Mouse and other drivers now...

Ok... I'm having some problems...

I can't get a DOS Bootdisk in windows or by typing sys A: in the Dos Prompt. When I do get a DOS Disk through that Bootdisk.com utility it's rather weird and doesn't seem to follow what that site you mentioned says so whenever I try to insert stuff for my CDrom or the mouse.com file I just installed, it doesn't work...

Help!

EDIT: Nevermind, it's mostly working with the exception of the mouse that I should be able to fix now fairly quickly...

(Sorry for the three post block by me.)

I have the Mouse driver and all other things that need to be working, working, but the Installation refuses to work! All it says is that Installation could not continue due to some error... Yet again, Help!

(Sorry for this 4th post in a row)

I hereby surrender to DOS and I'm going to give up on this Boot Disk thing unless someone can explain this thing to me in a way that works...

It's seeming more and more like I'm going to have to rebuild my old 486 (already started) or knock my laptop down to Win95 or DOS 6.22 to play this game...

Small Update:

I nuked my Latop's HD such as that there's only a 2 gig Default DOS partition on it. The Master Lu Install ran until it came time to copy the files at which point it promptly froze after only creating the Riddle dir and the README.doc

No Ripley for me :(

First of all, I want to apologize for bumping this post as it annoys people. But, it still hasn't been solved.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do (in Layman's terms!) about running Master Lu on my XP system? I've tried so many things, and it seems that some people have been successful, and many, many have not.

Is there anybody out there that can help me? I can even contact people by E-mail or through AIM to figure it out. But, it's driving me nuts not to finish this game I've had for so long.
