I am using Windows ME, DosBox to play this game. The intro works fine, can hear the sound and voices, but I can not hear the characters talking when the game has started past the intro. All I can hear is the midi music and see the text on the screen of what is being said.

Is this normal? I have adjusted my sound settings to no avail.

Thanks in advance,

Aquaria

Hi:

Maybe my question is not clear (or no one cares to help :-( ):

I can not hear the voices of the characters when playing the game.

To the many who have played this game:

Is this normal?

Or should the voices be heard? If so, I will know it is a problem with WinMe and Dosbox and keep looking for answers.

Please help if you can.

Thanks! :-)

Alright, found an answer to my question by accident here:

No voice after the intro screen:
The only places there are digitized voices in the game are in the intro, at the train station, and at the end of the game. The reason these are the only places is because the voice files take up very large amounts of memory.

Now on to the next question (maybe if I keep talking to myself long enough here, someone will be kind enough to take me out of my misery and help me with the next question. Heh.)

Hi Jade. Sorry I didn't notice your question before. To my knowledge, Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes 1 was never supposed to have voice all throughout the game, as it was originally released on 3.5" diskette (similar to how the Wing Commander 2 and Sam & Max diskette versions only used voice for the intros). I've never heard of a version that had full voice (but if you know of one, let me know!).

Er, what's your next question? :P

There are two versions of Serrated Scalpel available: on 3.5 inch floppy or on CD-ROM. The CD-ROM version of Serrated Scalpel does, indeed have digitized voices. At least so claim several sites/reviews. I know that the CD-ROM version of Rose Tattoo had full voices.

I am 99% sure that the CD version does not have voices throughout the game.
