WALMART! There was 4 copies left and I bought them all, isn't that one of the rarest, most sought after games ever? I couldn't believe my eyes. There is one huge problem though...the game is in French, the box, the book of patterns, everything and it's not the original release, it's one of those LucasArts Collection. I don't know if the voices are in french too, the game doesn't work on WinXP(obviously), I will try it on my old computer this weekend.
What's the resale value of this gem? One of the boxes is in really bad condition, all crushed but the Cd is perfect.
Thanks

I am sorry to dissapoint you but I don't think that there is a high value present for that game...after all you can practically find it at any abandonware store.
By the way what other hard to find adventure games do you have, since I really want to play the black daliha and Gaby Knight 2.

Actually, I've found Loom fetches more money than almost any of the other LEC adventures on Ebay.

Well, to get LOOM running, you don't need to play it on an old PC. Simply install and use ScummVM (http://www.scummvm.com), a program for running old LucasArts adventure games (as well as a few games from other companies).
And yes, you are very lucky.

Jony, there is an auction on ebay for black dahlia (more than 2 hours left), the current bid is 10US$.

Loom is definately a money grabber on ebay...

4 days left and it's already 46$.
I was really surprised to see these old games for sale at Walmart, they had Full Throttle, Curse of monkey island(original box with the voice of Aladdin?!), Realms of the haunting, kyrandia book 3: Malcom's revenge...ALL in french!

Being a re-release and a 'collection' release, I would say that makes it not so valuable. Ah. And the fact that it's in French. 8-)
I don't even need ScummVM to run Loom, works fine as is (XP).
Nice find, though. :)

French? Do you live in Canada or something?
And Loom is indeed quite wanted on Ebay, but don't expect too much since it's in French and not in it's original box.

The loom auction you reference is of the rare cdrom version in the rare boxed form so yes it will sell for a lot. If it were the Monkey Island Cdrom in the box, it would sell higher than Loom would though. Maniac Mansion and Zak McKracken tend to sell for more than Loom does though.

I'm not sure you really understand how the market for these games works. The people who end up being the high bidders on these games could care less that they're available for free download; they want the boxes in their hand and the original manuals. I've spent over $100 in the past few months on boxed eBay games that I easily could have downloaded from abandonware sites.
There may be fewer bidders as a result of its download availability, but I promise you, the price ceiling is not affected.

There is a lot more than Loom on the cd, it's not advertised anywhere on the box but I can play the games Maniac Mansion, The secret of Monkey island and Indiana Jones and the last crusade with ScummVM, I can only access these hidden files with ScummVM. I don't know if it's some kind of demo version or the whole game, there is no mention of it anywhere in the manuals or on the box. There's also a game called "Passport to Adventure" but I can't bypass the security, a pirate's face asking me in what year he was hanged?
All the games are in french, the verbs and the text. There are no voices in Maniac mansion and the secret of monkey island but there is music, I can hear the monkey island "theme"(really catchy...the same as in The curse of Monkey Island).
The Ubisoft folder on the CD is empty but ScummVM makes all those files magically appear. I'm no computer genius so can somebody explain to me how is that possible?

Maniac Mansion and the first two Monkey Island games did not have speech.

Why don't you post a picture of the game box? Did you buy this in an American Walmart? There is a lot more than Loom on the cd, it's not advertised anywhere on the box but I can play the games Maniac Mansion, The secret of Monkey island and Indiana Jones and the last crusade with ScummVM, I can only access these hidden files with ScummVM. "Passport to Adventure" was a set of demos, so those playable portions that you dug up with ScummVM are actually just really restricted demo versions. This set is also downloadable from Scumm Bar (http://www.scummbar.com//resources/downloads/index.php?todo=Demos).

I bought it in a Canadian Wal-mart, I understand and speak french but I prefer playing games in english.
I hope it's not a demo because I've been playing The secret of Monkey Island for 3 hours and I'm having so much fun!

It's a beige box with the picture of Loom, It's not The LucasArts Classic Adventures, I remember seeing copies in bargain bins years ago and I never thought of buying it. Now I'm paying more than 20US$ each for the complete games. Life is crazy!
Elaine got kidnapped and the demo is still running...*crosses fingers*

I've finally finished The secret of Monkey Island today, it was the whole game (ega version)! I have to find Monkey Island 2 somewhere to see the rest of the story...
