The game is not supposed to run on WinXP. It works fine on Win98, though. I am afraid that all your attempts to run the game on XP will have no result.

Bloody right the game should work, I bought the adventuresoft simon the sorceror pack which has the feeble files, and the box clearly states on the side that the games are compatible with windows xp.

When I start the game, the screen simply goes blank. All the other games in the pack work, Simon the Sorceror 1 and 2 even work without the use of the Lucasarts Scummvm dos emulator (which you can find on the Lucasarts website).

I'm not sure I understand the idea. I install the VM on XP, which will emulate a new computer without OS, and then install Win98?
And what if I don't have Win 98?

EDIT: Ok, nevermind, I hadn't read your post thoroughly enough. Thanks for the info!

Hey no probs, always glad to help a fellow adventure gamer :D

Anyway, just to make it clear for everyone, to install on OS you NEED a setup cd. Win 3.1 came on several disks, so it's gonna be a pain in the neck to install it; that's why I recommend switching to Win 95 or 98 that came both on a cd. But if you're gonna use just Dos based games, I guess you'll be fine with Dos 6.0 or similar. Depends on your needs, really. Some Microsoft OS were released freeware as far as I remember, if you're really desperate you could try checking out those.

Nah, I think (I hope) I have Win98 stacked up somewhere.
