I don't know is there any way to solve this, but (I have to admit) I have burnt copies of GK1 and GK2 (from the collector's ed. box or something like that) (There was no other way of getting them to me). Now I'm not sure if it was on my last computer, wich had Win. 98, or with this, that has XP, but it worked then. But now that I try to open the games, the icons have been turned into pictures. And the setups don't work either, so I can't re-install them (actually, now that I started remembering, it might be, that the setup of GK1 did work... It just needed to lower the colors to 256, or something... I should try...)

Yeah, it was as I said, GK2 setup does not work at all, but GK1 requires 256 color depth. How do I change that?

The icons that appear on the CD *are* pictures -- when you install, the installer makes them into shortcuts for launching your game. But trying to launch the icons on the CD won't get you anywhere.

To change to 256 colors, right-click on your desktop, select Properties, select the Settings tab, click Advanced, select the Adaptor tab, and click List All Modes. This will take you to a list of the screen resolutions, color depth, etc. that you can choose from. Pick 640x480 and 256 colors.

What do you mean when you say the setup for GK2 won't work? What's the problem?

Thanks, that worked (even though my Windows is in different language). But about that GK2 setup, I don't know why it doesn't work, it just complains about something like it cannot be opened or someting like that.

What are you clicking? Is it Setup.exe? If you post the exact error message someone may be able to help.

The game should have a DOS version too... the installer for that is Install.exe. Have you tried that? It runs on XP but you may need to use VDMSound to get the sound working right.

If you have installed other Sierra games on your computer you may have a program called Sierra Setup & Uninstall (look in the Sierra folder in Start / Programs). If you have that, try launching that and installing the game through that program.

Well, I can post the error report, but it's in Finnish, so not many people will understand that... But I'll put in in just a minute. And I tried the Setup and uninstall program, but there only were the options to uninstall register, support, and readme...
EDIT: OK, I just got automatically logged off, when I was just finished the edit, so this time I'll keep it shorter, 'cause I got really annoyed by that, and can't type much right now...
So. I only have one setup.exe, that's for GK1, but I've got install.exe, and also install.pif and install.hlp (a help screen (or whatever you really call it)) and install.scr, wich is a screensaver. Only the install.exe works, but it's only for specifying what type of hardware I have... So I'm not really sure anymore, if I even have a GK2 install. (I should, since I have the full copies of the disks, at least should be). I also have a whole lot of archives, but they're just full of some VESA-stuff...

Okay. Install.exe -- the one for specifying your hardware -- that goes with the DOS installation. Steup.exe, as you already found, is for GK1.

Do you only have one disk? In the mysteries pack there are 7 disks... one for GK1 and 6 for GK2. The GK2 installation is on disk 1 of the GK2 disks.
