Black Mirror -- Stuck in Chapter 4

Hello. I have recently become stuck in Black Mirror. After returning from the Sanitorium, I have spoken to Bates about James' painting of the lighthouse. Bates has told me where the lighthouse is located, but I am not allowed to leave the mansion for some reason. Everytime I attempt to leave the mansion, I am told "There is no point in going to the garden."
I think I have tried everything to get around this--I have tried speaking to Bates again, checking all the items in my inventory, tried speaking to Victoria, etc. I seem to be completely stuck--none of the exits work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Check the map in your inventory. Does it show the lighthouse location in it and does clicking on it takes you there ?

That worked perfectly! I had no idea the map worked that way. To leave Black Mirror manor, I always went the long way through the gardens!
