alright well i'm a consule game player I play games on Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii...but after reading up on ~The Witcher~ did I decide to use my computer for videogames...now I need help on finding games with a great story and characters...I haven't played the witcher yet either I just bought it...but I want a lot of games to get for my birthday...which is tomorrow...and am going on a shopping spree...
Now this may sound unusual but I like games for the story and characters more than the gameplay...what games do you recommend in this way...
I already have these 3 games...
~The Witcher Enhanced Edition~
~Murder in the Abbey~
~A Vampyre Story~
I also like scary games the most....so what games do you recommend. They don't have to be scary either just with a great cast of characters and wonderful story...thanks...I also rad that sticky message on help finding games but it didn't show that many games...so plz help thanks

Hello there, Lil Kis, and welcome to the forums!
As you've already seen, we have some threads about scary and dark-themed horror games, that I saw you posted in. I also love scary games, and character interaction and story is more important to me than gameplay, too. Some of my favorites include;
Dark Fall 1&2 (deals with ghosts)
The Lost Crown
Barrow Hill
The Longest Journey (not a scary game, but one with a great story and characters)
These are just a few of my personal recommendations. I would suggest looking through those threads you found for a game that sounds interesting to you. :)

judging by how you seem to be interested in maybe more of a action oriented gameplay, but still adventure aspects, i would recommend "Dreamfall" to you, its sort of an adventure/action-adventure hybrid and has a great story i think.
are you also looking for more strictly point and click adventures like vampyre story or would you prefer sort of controlling a character in a 3d world (most of which would be on a console anyway i take it, so im assuming u wanna go old school adventuring)?
i second the above posters suggestion of "lost crown", however i don't think you'd enjoy the darkfall games that much because they have really bad graphics and are a node based adventure game, and that may be too much of a shock for you coming from PS3 and XBOX360 :)

Try scratches. Best scare I ever had of a game!

After reading your message, I think you might like to try these titles;
Still Life
Fahrenheit (aka Indigo Prophecy)
Beyond good and evil
Those were the ones that popped out from the top of my head.. Still Life is a traditional point and click adventure with a great story and awesome design, really a top notch game!
Fahrenheit is also an adventure game although it has got some very cool action sequences. Very unique experience and the story is fantastic imo.
Beyond good and evil is more of an action/adventure game and has been compared to Zelda in terms of gameplay.
All three has great characters and voice acting and really nice graphics. They're also a few years old so you should be able to pick them up at a very reasonable price! :)

If you don't mind older graphics, go for Grim Fandango. Great story and characters.

Yes, Gothic 3 is an excellent game to get. Just get it in the Gothic Universe package; this contains all the gothic games in one package.
As for adventure games, I would definetely go for the scarier ones like Shivers 1 and Shivers 2 as well as Scratces, Barrow Hill, The Lost Crown and Overclocked as well as Frogware's The Awakened. Post Mortem and Still Life as well as Fahrenheit (or Indigo Prophecy) might also to be your liking, I think.
You might also like Rhiannon - curse of the four branches.
The Longest Journey is actually the first game - before Dreamfall.

It could be of use to us who are trying to reccomend games to you if you wrote down which ones you've played already :)
Have you played,
Broken Sword 1, 2, 3 & 4
Shadow of Destiny
The Monkey Island series
Syberia 1 & 2
Runaway 1 & 2
Secret Files 1 & 2
Paradise
The Penumbra trilogy

*shock gasp horror* lol I thought the graphics were fine, maybe not "Dreamfall" worthy, but nice enough. And yes, it's a slideshow type mode, but you're looking for a scary game with a good story...that's Dark Fall.

for general pc games try this:

i think you could sort for adventure games by rating as well here under the review section, however that seems to be disabled for now. look through the forum there was another post asking about good adventure games of the past 8 years, there were some good suggestions posted there.

your best option is to buy them online. personally i suggest amazon.com. you can also digitally download many of them through sites/clients such as steampowered.com, direct2drive, gamersgate, adventureshop, impulse, gog.com etc.

+1. Brick-and-mortar stores suck ass for PC games. You can get games online usually much cheaper, and it's easier to find what you want.
You might want to check out some Game Stop locations, if there are any conveniently located near you, because you can sometimes find some hidden gems at great prices. I recently found a copy of Culpa Innata for $5 at on Game Stop here in the Cleveland area. (Even Steam charges twice that much to download it.) However, they usually have a tiny PC game section, so don't go too far out of your way to check them out.
Many of the games you see discussed on here are older, and aren't really available in stores, anyway. This is because PC games are almost always backwards compatible, and the classics are often as exciting as the newer games coming out. (Try THAT on an Xbox or a Playstation. :) ) These games can usually be downloaded, or you can get them on Amazon or Ebay. Also, many of the newer games discussed here are episodic, and are only available online when they first come out (such as Sam & Max, Wallace & Grommit, etc.) until there are enough "episodes" to make them worth releasing on disc.

There are a ton of PC games. It depends on what you are looking for. Adventure games are tough to find in stores because many of the really good ones are classics and aren't really sold in stores anymore. Newer adventure games are available in those stores. Such as the few you have picked up. You are on the right track.
I think you would really enjoy the Wallace and Gromit series as well as Sam and Max series. Split into 5 episodes that you can download individually I believe. Each episode has it's own little story, but the characters stay in tact for each episode and the fun play is great. Funny jokes and what not.

The option is still there. Right underneath the letter selection there are options to sort by rating, production date and article date.

Most of them have a very small computer game section. Some of them don't.

Where I live they sell everything and every other one I've been to has everything as well. I guess some stores don't, but I've never come across one that hasn't sold all the new PC games.
