games crashing on my computer - xp

both grim fandango and tlj keep crashing back to the desktop at random places. I've run them both fine on this computer many times in the past. Have a Dell latitude d610 with windows xp.

also have a gig and a half of free disk space so I can't see what the problem is.

wondering if my computer is just gone useless from age or if there is something anyone can suggest.

for grim i've got the new launcher installed and am running the game from the hard drive.

Do you have the cd-version or dvd-version of TLJ? there are patches on the official site:
http://www.longestjourney.com/

you might also want to try running both games in compatibility mode.
