For those unfamiliar with the game, Snatcher (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snatcher) is a is a cyberpunk-themed adventure game, created by Hideo Kojima of Metal Gear fame. Snatcher is clearly influenced by films such as Blade Runner. You can find an interesting podcast about the game here. Being a huge Sega nerd and a lover of adventure games, I recently hunted down the Sega/Mega-CD version of the game. I haven't actually started playing it yet because I've got some other games to finish, but I was just wondering if anyone had played it and what they thought, because I don't often see it getting mentioned? Spoiler free thanks! :)

It's excellent. It does have a couple shooting sections which can be difficult (especially the final one) for those who are not action oriented, but they fit perfectly within the story (not mini-games for their own sake).

I love Kojima and this, along with Metal Gear 2 for the MSX show that even without 3D graphics, he's a genius. Though, like the Metal Gear games, Snatcher borrows a lot from American genre cinema. In this case, the game has MANY sections liberally lifted from Blade Runner, much like Metal Gear 2 & MGS which has a lot lifted from action movies like Rambo 2, etc...

Still, I'm jealous that you're about to experience this gem for the first time. The first time the proximity sensor went off in Act I.... Oooh, chills. Play this one in the dark for a good time.

Oh, and if anyone else has played Snatcher and is curious, Kojima's spiritual successor to Snatcher, Policenauts, has a fan translation which is very close to completion. The developer's are currently "One bug away from Beta". The patch can be found here once done: http://policenauts.net/english/

(Note: That website will only give you the translation patch. You'll have to obtain a copy of the game yourself, and as any mod will tell you, those such links are NOT allowed here)

Hmm apparently they've been one bug until beta since September :( I wonder if it will get done. I'd love to play Policenauts.

Nah. The website hasn't been updated since September. I've seen the number of bugs go down from 4 to 1 on the forums in the past couple weeks. They're still plugging away. I think the remaining bug is something that is affecting the game being emulated...

I'm really looking forward to this though, but I've gone way off topic now... Any more thoughts about Snatcher? The relative quiet makes me think more people need to go and play this game!

Yeah, Snatcher is definitely a must play.

Now I'm eager to play Policenauts. If I forget to check the website frequently, Berserker... please remember to post when the translation is ready to roll :) or pm me. Or something :)

I watched the intro to Snatcher just before. Man I can't wait to play it properly! These are some of the best pixel graphics I've ever seen. Maybe it's just because the setting really appeals to me. Speaking of films that influenced Snatcher, I saw the new Terminator last night and it was pretty bad

I just played it this year, excellent game. Better than the Blade Runner game by far. Which kind of sucks, because I thought BR pulled off the BR universe, turns out a game 5 years older does it better!

Though, a fair warning to some, a couple sequences as well as the final "fight" can be very frustrating in terms of reflex difficulty. This is coming from someone who plays a lot of FPS games.
