Petition time lolz! Only this time to a developer that listens. For those that don't know Broken Sword is an adventure game series created by game designer Charles Cecil of Revolution Software. The game series revolves around the adventures of George Stobbart and Nico Collard in several fictitious stories based on history and mythology. The first two games in the series are controlled by a traditional point-and-click interface.
About a year ago the fanbase petitioned Revolution to go back to 2D and bring Broken Sword to new platforms. The petition succeeded and the first result of Revolution's return to 2D adventure gaming is Broken Sword: Director's Cut, a remastering of the original, including new illustrations from Dave Gibbons, the artist on Watchmen!
For some reason neither Rev nor Ubisoft thought to bring BS: DC to the PC, despite 99% of it's fans being on the PC/Mac...
So it's time for another petition!

You do know that it's not entirely up to Revolution to bring it to PC?
The publishers are not interested in a PC version of this game.
I'm sure Rev would love to bring this to PC if they could.
I personally don't care that much now that I have a Wii and also my trusty old DS. :)

Rev haven't said whether not not Ubi have the exclusive rights, Rev may be able to self-publish/Steam it but they are unsure - thus petition. Petition will be sent to Ubi if they have exclusive rights.

I thought I had read Cecil say that Ubisoft were not interested in a PC version.
They are actively pushing the Wii and DS as platforms.
That's nothing to do with the developer.

And secondly..
I don't see the fascination with trying to drag the genre backwards to the 90's yet again by insisting that it be 2D.
2D will work very well on the DS and possibly the wii, but there have been 2 pretty decent 3D Broken Sword games and we should be petitioning for a new state of the art game not an old fashioned one.

Man do I wish I hadn't gotten rod if my DS.

No voice acting on DS though :( I might get it on DS otherwise. But the original actors are back and it would feel like half the game with just text >_<

Why would this "drag the genre backwards"?? So many new adventure games are still 2D (backgrounds). And a lot of us prefer 2D backgrounds, which are in general superior to the 3D environments I think. That's the reason of "our fascination." Apparently all those developers who make ("state of the art") 2D adventures think likewise.
It's what you say: the last 3D BS games were (pretty) "decent." Nothing more.

Because the 3D ones look a bit shit in comparison?
About the 2D thing, I think the Curse of Monkey Island is one of the nicest looking games and I don't think there's much argument that A Vampyre Story would look so much nicer with well animated 2D characters. In fact in that case it's more of a budget thing as to why it's not 2D. I love the designs but am a bit underwhelmed by their translation to 3D. Of course the translation of graphic designs from 2D to 3D looks lovely in games like Psychonauts. I guess what I'm saying is they're both viable and versatile mediums and are still both as relevant, at least in my mind.
2D should not be considered inherently 90's, this is like saying that all cartoons should be 3D because 2D cartoons are a product of the early 20th century.

*signs*
I think that 2D in adventure games gives out way more then 3D. Just look at Runaway, So blonde, Monkey island etc...
None of the 3D environments can get even close to the lush and blooming backgrounds those games have, and i'm 100% sure that none of the adventure game developers won't have that big budgets to create a next-gen engine for their games like some shooters or action games have.
Eww,what's with the juveniled Georgie,is he 16 or what,sucks.

Wow, yeah. Those portraits look kind of bad. Kind of like some terrifying hybrid of the Broken Sword 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 George.

I would much rather they put all their time into an entirely new game for the PC (and whatever other platforms they feel they must mess with, I guess).
I never could find any enjoyment in replaying anything even if it had been gussied-up or what have you.
I kind of like the new portraits with the exception of George. From what we've seen they look great animated too...

I replay all the Broken Sword games from time to time, so definitely agree with making better a new game for PC and all other platforms. I just love to see a new chapter in the series.

well that's also true. But i'd definitely go with 2D... 2D as in runaway for example. That would make George and Nico look better than ever before.
