I was wondering what your favourite Adventure Game fansite is either past or present. (Meaning sites dedicated to a single game or game series.) :)

I liked the old http://sidney.adventuregamer.com (http://sidney.adventuregamer.com/) website... Probably one of the best Gabriel Knight fansites of all-time. Hopefully a site is created that is just as good for Project Jane-J. :)

Also I like the Grim Fandango Network. :)

I don't normally visit fansites for specific games. I visit one for a specific genre though ;)

Sidney was the only one I ever visited. After everything that's happened I almost forgot AGs actually hosted sites. There was a litte AG network. What other sites were there?

I also don't visit game-specific sites. Mojo is as close as I come.

I'm partial to mixnmojo and samandmax.net myself... incidentally, it's odd that those are the two sites that are still offline... wonder why that is?

Come to think of it, I don't visit any game specific fansites at all, period! And I think the reason for this is the fact that I'm not much of a fan for any game for a very long time. When people hang around a single game it seems cliqueish (?) to me and I don't really feel at home because I don't feel cliqueish about any single game. Now, if it was a game series (a la Monkey Island) or a genre (Adventure Gamers) I might be interested.

The broader the focus, the larger the community, the larger the community the larger the likelihood of finding a couple of good friends, atleast, that's the way I feel about things. I don't go to any "fansite" just because I'm a fan, but because I'd like to collaborate with other fans and/or see what they have to say about things.

I never really pledge allegiance to any adventure game fansite, not because of their cliquishness but because once I'm done with the game there's only so much I can discuss about it before moving on to the next game, even if I'm madly in love with it. I used to frequent Sierra's Gabriel Knight 3 forums three years ago but after several months I realized that we just kept talking about the same things over and over, and whenever a n00b came the same questions were asked and had to be answered.

Because most adventure games are self contained it's inevitable for me to reach a saturation point with them, and I naturally seek new experiences elsewhere. :)

I have to give kudos to the "official" Tex Murphy fansite because I have been able to get detailed info there to help me run these games that would have become coasters otherwise.

I have a soft spot for the SCUMM bar since it was my first introduction to the AG web community. But I never visit these days.... I mostly visit Mixnmojo when I remember to.... Which reminds me:

*goes to mixnmojo*

I visit fansites before and around a release but stop until there is news about a sequel. Fansites are great for getting every little detail about a game you love but as a community they have a short shelf life imo (unless they have a broader appeal as Krkode says; such as Mixnmojo covering all lucasarts stuff). So for me the best fansites are mostly repositries of info on a game, like Sidney with all it's great detail, little downloads etc and not neccessairly communities.

I used to frequent the ICO boards at gamefaqs for about a month, because I wanted to find out about the PAL version, and because hints were being dropped about a sequel. Other than that, mojo for 6ish months, until it died.

we just kept talking about the same things over and over, and whenever a n00b came the same questions were asked and had to be answered.
Sounds familiar... :P

Yup, I usually visit a fan-side before and around the release of the game if it's high on my list.
Mostly because these sites updates far more often with news about that perticular game than genre sites.
But usually, these sites dies after a couple of months after release.

i liked the grim fandango network, but the new site design is as ugly as I! I prefer general adventure sites, this obviously. its not often that a game has enough around it for it to warrant an active fansite.

International House of Mojo is my Primary usalily. But as A) There server is still Borked and B) Lucasart Adventure game offerings have run dry. I come here now for general Adventure news.

Dom: You're right about fansites being the best when they have great information; even if there forums or whatever aren't very active. :) Sites like Sidney had information on the games as well as information on everything from Rennes-Le-Chateau to rumour speculation for GK4. :)

The http://www.brokensword3.net (http://www.brokensword3.net/) website is possibly one of the best Broken Sword fansites... Too bad it went down with the mojo network just as constant information on Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon was being released. :)

I always thought that this Mosely fansite was hysterical http://mosely2.tripod.com/index.html. I agree that the Sidney GK site was also fantastic.

Who ran the sidney site? what happened to them?

After GK3 was released and the site was updated with everything, the site designer decided to pretty much officially close the site for any major updates with the occassional news update. :) (I'm sure they would have reopened it if GK4 was announced. :)) The site was kept online as an archive or whatever but went with the Adventure Gamer network. :) (Mosely is cool! :))

I used to visit Scumm Bar before "The Hacking Thing" very often. I loved reading Captain Mystery's "outragoues" (definitly outraging) topicals. Now I only visit'em from time to time - couple of times a month.

I usually visit game fan sites only when in search for some informations or when (re)playing a game.

My favourites:
Simple BS (http://simplebrokensword.free.fr/) and
Sharpened Sword - by theneb ;) (http://ss.theneb.co.uk/)

Magic Ball Network (http://el-muerte.student.utwente.nl/lba/)
Sendell's Well (http://el-muerte.student.utwente.nl/lba/redir2/-1/url/4/?http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sendellswell.co.uk%2F&)

Shadow Hunter's Center (http://gk.fpp.pl/)
Sidney Online

Grim Fandango Network. The Grim Fandango novelization by Charles Frederick (a.k.a. MeddlingMonk) was a most exciting, professional - though there's still place for an improvement - read :) I'd like to see this thing get published.

I personally think The SCUMM Bar (http://www.scummbar.com) is the best thing since sliced bread. They're good looking too. And so funny. Perfection. Honestly.

Mixnmojo, baby! Too bad they've had so many problems with their servers. I think they lost lots of interesting content during their many downfalls.

I also think their current design isn't exactly an improvement to the last one. And the one before the last one.

Scumm Bar is definitely the MI fansite to visit. I never saw the benefit of (pre-)sliced bread though.
