A bunch of people are starting a playthrough of Full Throttle this weekend. Join us if you like...
We'll be playing and posting our impressions on the way through.
One suggestion for our first stopping point is a cutscene that happens after Ben successfully rides away from the bar at the beginning on his bike.
See this thread to see who's in and how we chose Full Throttle

Wow, I've had this game for a while but never even finished it. This sounds exciting, count me in if possible?

Does anyone have the purple case rereleased edition instead of the original? I started mine today for the playthrough and it quits after the limo cutscene. Is anyone else having this problem?
*Edit* I just copied the disc to my hard drive and ran it through scumm instead...all fixed!

F***, the bike fights are annoying. Talk about frustrating. :frusty: I can't seem to get passed it at the moment so i can't get to the stopping point. ;(
EDIT: Whew, done it.

F***, the bike fights are annoying.
Bike fights plural? There should only be one fight to get to the initial stopping point. To clarify, the point I suggested aiming for is when Ben has an accident (due to a problem with his bike) It sounds like you may have gone further than that.
The normal practice in previous playthroughs has been to set a stopping point (as already described) and have everyone play to that point and then post their thoughts on that section of the game. To allow everyone time to achieve that we then give it a few days until the next section is played.
If everyone is agreeable I would suggest that we start the next section on Wednesday 23 April and that we make that section acquiring the parts to fix Ben's bike. This gives a meatier chunk of game with a nice variety of puzzles in it.
Just searched out my copy and will play through the first section when I've finished up a few things here.

Yeah, the first bike fight was the one i was referring to. That one annoys me the most whenever i play it. I should've been more clear. i can't quite remember how annoying the others are though but i think they still might've annoyed me a bit in the past. I've saved at the beginning of Maureen's garage and left it.

*Gruff Voice*
When I'm on the road, I'm indestructible. No one can stop me,(sees an enemy biker in view)... but they try.
I always did like Full throttle although it has it's weak points (which we will get too).
Ahem..
It has a great intro with some cool music, I still get the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when Ben goes over the limo and the music kicks in.
The voice acting is spotless from the gruff Ben to the smarmy Ripburger and his 2 goons I felt they all fit the characters to a T.
So we have a lenghty intro sequence, a chance to play around with the interface and a beginner bike fight. Kinda sums up the whole game in the 5 minute intro.
The interface is similar to the coin from MI3 in that a mini icon driven menu come up when you left click on a hot spot (red box round cross hair identifies hotspots). The menu system can be seen during the intro as a tattoo on the arm of one of the polecats. It's pretty intuitive, just select the part of the amatomy you want to use, eyes to look, feet to kick etc etc.
Not a lot to do in the initial stage. Get out of the dumster, and get the keys to your bike.
For fun try doing odd things to some of the hotspots "I'm not putting my lips on that" or try kicking the piano.
Once the first puzzle is sorted get ready for the first annoying part. The Bike Fight. These fights are dreadful, right click to change weapon, left click to use weapon and move mouse left and right to move bike. Object of the initial fight is to get in close and rapidily left click and hope that he falls first. NAFF.
Once vanquished another cutscence to end section 1.
So far so good.

I had trouble with the bike fight, but eventually got it. I like the graphics, and the opening tune was very cool. It seems fun so far, I can't wait to play on!
It's great to play Full Throttle again! ;)
I haven't forgotten the story, but Ben's comments are like new and I'm severely stuck on one of the puzzles. (Okay, so I didn't stop after the bike fight... that first part is real short.)

It has a great intro with some cool music, I still get the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when Ben goes over the limo and the music kicks in.The opening title track is "Legacy" by The Gone Jackals. I liked their music so much I went out and bought the album. Bone to Pick (http://www.amazon.com/Bone-Pick-Gone-Jackals/dp/B000003QLV) I think their music fits the game well.
The interface is similar to the coin from MI3 in that a mini icon driven menu come up when you left click on a hot spot (red box round cross hair identifies hotspots). The menu system can be seen during the intro as a tattoo on the arm of one of the polecats. It's pretty intuitive, just select the part of the amatomy you want to use, eyes to look, feet to kick etc etc.I think this is the first usage of the interface in this style. (MI3 was later) I like the animation when you select the various actions (the bloodshot eyes being a particular favourite) and the burning noise from the flames is a nice touch.
I love the long cinematic to this, especially with the theme. It's the attention to detail that gets me every time. The moving material on Ben's clothes. The flickering reflections in the bike's metalwork. All these little touches serve to create the illusion of movement. Also, characters blink. It's such a small thing but with little details like that being dealt with you have more confidence in the bigger picture.
We get a nice broad background setup here with a lot of the major characters benig introduced. You get a feeling for who's who and what parts they are playing. No prizes for guessing who the villain of the piece is.
The bike fights can be an annoyance. I must be honest that I've never found this one a problem (just move over and pound the left mouse button for all you're worth) but the later ones are trickier. There are some tricks to beating most of them which don't require fighting game reflexes but we can cover that later.
You've got to admit that Ripburger isn't lying (slight spoiler. Leave until after the 3rd section if you're playing for the first time)
He most definitely is not WAITING for Malcolm Corley to die.
(Okay, so I didn't stop after the bike fight... that first part is real short.)There's no rule saying you can't play ahead as much as you want to. Just try to avoid speaking about the later parts until we all get to them. :)

Play the first part, and yah the fighting part is pretty annoying.. Now at the 2nd part where accquire the parts.. So which is the stopping point so i can play first and wait for u all.. Maybe after playing Limbo of the lost..
Playing Limbo realize the inventory interfaces similar to Full throttle as both have the interface where u can click to interact, pick up or etc the item when click..
Anyway back to Full Throttle, find the graphics so cartoonish and really make me wana play Sam and Max and the Day of Tentacle.. Really miss the old school Lucasart games..

When I first started playing this I was struck by how cinematic it was. I knew I was in for a treat once I started.:D Also, the soundtrack by Gone Jackals is top notch.
I never had a problem with the bike fight. I'm not quite sure what others find so hard about it?
I should say first up for full disclosure that I've played Full Throttle before, so I won't speculate on story points and where I think they're going, etc. Already this game is pretty damn immersive, pulling me into the world again from the moment the opening sequence starts. The world and characters are so well realized. Although we don't know the specifics of the setting yet (such as time, location, etc.) it's already dripping with post-apocalyptic-like atmosphere. (The best kind. ;)) In reality I know next to nothing (and really don't care) about bike gangs, but already I feel attached to the Polecats and Ben's mission. Ben's a man of few words which is refreshing for an adventure game, but when he does speak he usually says something incredibly cool, incredibly funny or both. He's a very likable guy.
After Grim Fandango I definitely think this is one of LucasArts most cinematic games. All the production values are there from an excellent soundtrack, beautiful stylized art, a freakin' awesome script and some pretty great voice acting. I love how the bar man tells Ben that "They were going to kill you and make it look like an accident." Ben dismisses it until the plan actually happens a few moments later. I like the seamless interface too and how it's designed to look like the Polecat tattoo. (The kicking option has got to be one of the most awesome actions ever. From kicking the piano to kicking the dumpster. Good times had by all. ;)) I find myself clicking on all the options just to hear Ben's responses -- definitely a sign of awesome writing. The attention to detail is great.
I sort of like the bike fights, but I prefer the future ones. (Which I'll talk about when we reach them.) Ben's a biker and the fact that he's got rivalries and foes on the open road definitely adds to the atmosphere. There's nothing wrong with a little combat. We're not far into the story right now, but they've done an incredible job setting the scene and putting all the characters into place. (From the backstory behind Corley Motors to the various agendas of the characters.) There's already a feeling of definite trouble a brewin' and I can't wait to play more.

Maybe after playing Limbo of the lost.. As I said earlier, I think the entire section where you acquire the parts for the bike should be the next part. Since you can acquire the parts in any order there isn't really another point everyone can be sure of reaching before all the parts are collected.

Just played the first part...very short but I understand why we are stopping there. I decided to wait until Wednesday to move forward so I can keep pace with everyone.
I love the beginning and the music adds so much to the game.
I was taking my time and looking at everything to make it last a little longer. My favorite line so far from looking at one of the pictures on the walls of the Kick Stand (love the name of the bar, by the way!):
"Is this your pit bull?"
"No, it's my baby picture" :D
I can't wait until Wednesday to continue the adventure!

I had almost forgotten, what a awesome game Full Throttle really is. I mean, what a great way to start a game!
The intro really gives you the perfect feel for the game and the universe it takes place in.
Don't have anything interesting to add, but I'll definitely play along. Maybe this time I can finally finish it. :P

I think everyone's covered everything I wanted to say. All I have to say is that I'm glad the first section was so short because it took me a long time to work out how to open the interface. :D
Looking forward to continuing tomorrow!

Count me in. I think the interface is cool (also took me a few mins to figure out) I think I got out of the dumpster by accident :) I like kicking lots of things. I just wailed away for the bike race, but I guess they get a little harder as you go along. Dunno why I never played this before, should have known Tim Shafer would put out a first rate game.

:) Ace. Love the whole setting of the game, the futuristic meets Highway 66 road rebels. Excellent opening, hopefully this time I will be motivated to finish the game as I'll be appreciating it in small chunks.
The 3D animation brings back all sort of memories of 90's PC games, I love it too!
I loved, loved, LOVED this game. I got it as part of a LucasArts multi-game pack my mom randomly picked up, without knowing better. Also came with The Dig, the first Jedi FPS (Dark Forces? I think?), and the Monkey Island 1 & 2 disc.
I don't know if I still have my Full Throttle disc handy, but will follow this playthrough avidly!

Finally found some time to join in... luckily this first section was quick.
After spending so much time on my "to play" list, I'm really excited that we chose Full Throttle. I'm instantly struck by how amazing it is to be playing something that feels so original, at least in theme. It's kind of a sad state of affairs really that anything not involving space marines, dwarfs and elves, or evil cults is enough to make a game feel so different. And then there's Tim Schaefer, whose imagination reminds me of a lot of filmmakers I really like such as Tim Burton, Terry Gilliam and Jean-Pierre Jeunet...
Anyway, love the intro. Love kicking the dumpster. Love playing as an adventure hero who will actually intimidate people rather than always being a pussy...
Looking forward to more!!

Great, the second part today!
Talking about the first part, i really enjoy that intro just as much as everyone else. That's probably one of my favourite intros in an adventure game. Legacy by The Gone Jackels kicks ass and how the whole thing is set-up just like a movie.
FULL THROTTLE PLAYTHROUGH - PART II - FINDING PARTS FOR THE BIKE
(Don't read if you're still playing through the first part.)
I loved Maureen's introduction with the gas mask and surreal music as Ben woke. She's another very cool, well realized character. Already there's chemistry between her and Ben and I really liked the banter between the two. (Particulary the stuff about Corley service centres. :D) There weren't many characters to interact with here but the little conversation Ben took part in was great. I particularly liked talking with the reporter and Ben's reluctance to ask for a ride in her car. This game is pretty damn funny, but also a little dark -- a good combination.
Melonweed by night has a creepy and mysterious vibe. It was a lot of fun exploring the shadowy, desolate surrounds of the decaying town scowering for parts. One thing I noticed in this section was how great the sound design is. The ambient background noise (crickets chirping, dogs barking, etc.) with the mysterious music definately contributed to the town's freakin' great atmosphere.
I really liked the puzzles in this section too, not to mention the pacing of the story. Ben's got clear and simple objectives and there's no really unnecessary obstacles in his way. Everything he's doing has a point. I remember the solutions to most of the puzzles from the last time I played so only really got stuck once, forgetting the specifics of how to get the fuel. I impatiently resorted to a walkthrough and realized it was simple enough, I just hadn't explored the location enough. (A little hot spot would've been nice, though. ;)) There's some original puzzles here. I thought the way Ben ended up getting the fuel despite being at a fuel tower was awesome to the max!
I mentioned the attention to detail in this game in my previous post. Some of the small, seemingly throw away touches in this section really adds to the atmosphere. I love the smile Ben gives Maureen when he successfully returns with a part -- he's definitely proud of himself. The look of this game is great from the shadows and lighting of the locations Ben lurks around in to the animations of him running away at the fuel station. The animated sequences are always great! Although the graphics have dated a little, the style has definitely remained.
I stopped immediately after getting my bike back after finding the parts. Can't wait to play on!

One of the Ben's opening lines really sum Maureen very well:
"Whenever I think of Maureen, I think of two things: asphalt ...and trouble." :)
I really loved Ray Conrad's voice, may he rest in peace.
Hope you, who are playing it for the first time, will enjoy it as much as so many of us have before you.
Happy playin' time.

Well said DC, you saved me a lot of typing!
I had a couple of tricky moments with this section. I kind of had the idea that ben should try to hide from the searchlights at the gas tower, but I couldn't figure out how to do it until I looked at a walkthrough. That was the only part I needed help with, but a few other things I discovered purely by accident. The junkyard was the hardest part, I was trying everything on everything and laughed out loud when I discovered that the way to open the door was to lock it closed... NATCH! And then the dog, Jeesh! I was throwing meat at everything and the darn dog STILL wouldn't leave me alone. The hot spot for the tower was so hard to find. I clicked on it by accident, figured out the controls and DID THE WRONG THING! Yes, instead of lifting the dog out of harms way, I dropped cars on top of it (I know, I probably wasn't hugged enough as a child.) Then I had to go back to the tower and try again and even though I knew it was there, it still took me forever to find the stupid hot spot to get up into the tower.
I also liked the sound effects and the music is great, particularly in the trailer. I was disappointed to be whisked back to the garage so quickly after finding the torch, as I intended to hang around til the end of the song. I've never replayed an adventure game, no matter how much I like it the first time around, i never have any patience with it the second time. I could see playing this one again however, just for the great music and one liners.
Ben: "Not a people person?"
Mo: " I'm just better with toasters, that's all."
**EDIT** sorry about the spoilers, I thought it was open discussion for the completed parts.. I'll be good, promise!

I'm certainly enjoying this game more second time round. First time, i cheated throughout most of it... as always. :shifty: Thing is, if i cheat on pretty much all the puzzles in a game, i'll just end up forgetting the solution to them next time round. Whereas, if i solve a game myself, the characters, locations, dialogue and especially the puzzles will stick in my head more.
As a result, there were a couple of puzzles i forgot about. The crane puzzle and getting the gasoline. As for hiding in the shadows that suddenly came to me. Traces of my first time through were vaguely coming back. The crane one i solved eventually by just sitting back for a few seconds and thinking. I love it when i work out a puzzle it makes me feel smart lol. But i ended up doing the same thing as buddi with the cars.
When's the next starting point?

On this second section: First time I played it, it took me forever to figure out how to get past the dog. I kept getting chased by it, which is very irritating after that happened to you around 50 times. So, I had to resort to a walkthrough. This time around I knew just what to do.
Getting the gas was kind of tricky too. Overall it was a nice section of puzzles. Of course the music played at Todd's place gives some hint as to when the game takes place.

Just finished getting the bike parts.
I remembered most of the solutions but it still didn't detract from the game. I love the conversations and I love the solution to getting in the junkyard.
I only had one complaint. I pretty much remembered the solution of getting past the dog however:
I threw the meat in the yellow car and NOT the purple car. It's annoying that it only works with the purple car. I seriously spent about 45 minutes on this before I finally went to a walkthrough and noted that it had to be the purple car. It would have been nice if they didn't let you through the meat in the yellow car if it can't be used to get the solution.

I remember hating this part of the game, the first time I played it. :P
Luckily, most stuff I remember, I remember so well that they are forever burned into my memory, and I can therefor feel that I can enjoy them more this time.
The puzzle solutions are all really smart and logical, but the bad thing for me, was the feel that the game is always trying to hide something from you. (Kinda like when you're hunting for hotspots, but without any actual hotspots).
The secret elevator in the trailerThe fact that you can actually walk along to the right upside at the wall.
and
The shadows you are supposed to hide in.
Maybe it's just me, but I think that all those things could have been made much easier by just setting out a few hotspots.
Perhaps too easy.
Everything else is great, music, sound effects, animations and dialogs.
"I don't collect art. ...And I don't collect whatever that is..." Classic :D

I didn't even know you could access those areas either the first time i played. They were the main parts i had to use a walkthrough on.
One of the Ben's opening lines really sum Maureen very well:
"Whenever I think of Maureen, I think of two things: asphalt ...and trouble." :)
I really loved Ray Conrad's voice, may he rest in peace.
Ray Conrad's voice is superb. Ben is a great character and his lines are always in character. One of my favorite short but eloquent oneliners in this part of the game: when you put Ben's fist on the window of the trailer and he simply says: "Bars." :D
I love that too! Straight to the point. :D I love Maureen's voice and personality as well.
NATCH! And then the dog, Jeesh! I was throwing meat at everything and the darn dog STILL wouldn't leave me alone. The hot spot for the tower was so hard to find. I clicked on it by accident, figured out the controls and DID THE WRONG THING! Yes, instead of lifting the dog out of harms way, I dropped cars on top of it (I know, I probably wasn't hugged enough as a child.) I remember the first time I played the game I did something similar. Partly due to the fact that I...
...didn't find the meat in the fridge, cause Ben was concealing it most of the time with his hulking frame. Talk about confined spaces. ;) So I tried to solve the puzzle without it and get the dog while it went from car-to-car. :D
I didn't realize the whole spoiler space thing in this thread, either.

Yay, really enjoying this so far and managed get the bike sorted without a walkthrough. It's my first time playing through, but have tried to start it many times before without getting much beyond the first section.
I am playing it half on a PC and half on my PocketPC through ScrummVM, although the PC is better for getting the full atmosphere of the game.
Thanks for getting me to have another crack at this classic.
Where is the next Stopping Point, and if it doesn't spoil things too much can someone give us a rough idea of how many stopping points they expect there to be?

I think that probably we want to do the Old Mine Road sequence (with all the bike fights) as the next section. As I recall this is the next major section of the game but I'm not in a position to check right at the moment.
After that I see two more major sections being
Getting into Corley motors
and
End game on truck and closing credits
But if anyone else thinks we need more split points then I'm happy to go with that.
I was also thinking Saturday 26 April as being the next discussion point (the Old Mine Road sequence) but that depends on whether everyone else wants to move along already.
That sounds good, stepurhan. I'm happy to wait it out for others to catch up too.

Hey, hopping in late. Just finished the parts-gathering-part.
This is my first time playing, and dang, it's awesome. I'm having such fun, although I am having to re-orient my thinking a little. I have to remind myself that I am playing a six-foot-something badass burly gang leading BIKER DUDE, and thus have options that would not be available to me in other games.
In another adventure game, when faced with a locked door, you talk to the owl who tells you to talk to the elf who won't talk to you unless you find his fiddle and then if you ask nicely he'll trade you some cheese for the key.
In Full Throttle, you KICK THE DAMN DOOR DOWN.
It is... really, really refreshing, actually. And slightly giddy-making. I'm pretty petite; I don't get to intimidate and muscle my way through problems much. It's FUN. But I'm still thinking and puzzling, which I like.
Had to walkthrough my way into the junkyard, but once in, I figured things out myself, which I'm proud of. Although I did start with the same solution Buddi did,
Dropping a car on the dog. Actually hit 'im, too, "YIPE!". But poochie dug his way out, so I gave up on that after one drop. When I thought about it, he was UNDER the scrap heap when we first came in, so made sense that he could gnaw his way out from under a car.
I still have that post-apoc country western song from the trailer stuck in my head. "The population is greatly decreased..." Snrrk. Ya know, at one point I'd totally forgotten there was a sci-fi element? I got a hell of a jolt when I saw my first hovercar.
Voice acting is awesome. I was so excited watching the credits. They got some pretty big name voice actors. I squealed when I saw Steve Blum's name. Ohmigod ohmigod, Spike Spiegel's in this game! I can hardly wait to find out who he plays.
See you at the next stop point!

Really? I tried it and the damn dog kept coming after me! Even when I did the exact same thing with the yellow car as I was supposed to do with the purple car. I kept wondering how the dog was able to jump out from there and then jump back in when I got back to the crane!

I had to look for hints for the dog....
I did lift the car up in the air first, but obviously not high enough because he still got out. So I spent ages piling cars on top of his, making his car into a sandwich tower between other cars, and even trying to block his car in the middle with lots of cars around it on all sides.
The other thing I had to look for hints for was the gas. I agree, a hot spot would have helped greatly...I just assumed there wasn't anything over there.
All in all, a lot of fun. I love the music, and Ben's running is so funny! I'm up for starting the next part on Saturday!

Sorry for being a little late... I was a few days late because of my exams and the holiday, and I didn't realize you guys would be so quick through the game :)
I'm still amazed by how beautiful this game is. I don't think there's any other hand-drawn game that's so cinematic. Anyone care to correct me? Is there any other game with so much hand-drawn cut-scenes? I mean, almost anything you click on brings out a short beautiful cut-scene of something happening.
I remember back when I played this, I thought this would surely be Lucasarts new standard for how games would look, which is part of why I was very disappointed with Monkey Island 3 (which looked okay, but had very few cut-scenes which aren't just made with the regular sprites of the game)
Actually, I think the only game that ever matched this one in cinematic style is Grim Fandango.
Anyway, regarding the gameplay, I was a bit annoyed with the dog scene. I forgot what I'm supposed to do here, and didn't pick up the meat at first, so I ended up spending about 20 minutes dragging cars around trying to drop them on the dog, or piling them up.
Other than that, the "puzzles" are good, especially in the sense that they do not take you away from the story and so they don't hurt the pace so much.

Finally got on to playing the parts section.
Again, the attention to detail is good. Things like the hatchway outside Todd's trailer showing the flash of the welding torch at map level and not just when you're at the trailer itself.
I also loved that, if you kept on going back to the gas tower without solving it, the cops dialogue changed a little bit each time. Plus, you had the option to climb up the tower before the cops arrived, giving you an extra couple of bits of action when they caught you there (Ben wincing as bullets slam around him and then leaping off the ladder.)
Finally the closing cutscene (when Mo brings the bike down on the lift) has the rope catch fire when Ben fires up the rocket booster, and the rope burns through and falls down behind Mo after he's gone. Absolutely great. :D
I played a little further and there are a couple of small puzzles before the Old Mine Road section but probably not enough to warrant a separate section for them.

It's Saturday here in the UK so I'm on the Old Mine Road section.
This section contains the bunch of bike fights which many people find annoying and difficult. I have a save with all the weapons but none of the other tasks in the section done. If anyone just can't win the earlier fights then drop me a PM with an e-mail address and I'll forward it on.
You can win most fights with any weapon and a bit of luck. Some fights need specific weapons and timing to win (they are more like puzzles in that way)
Here's how to get the best weapon (which will enable you to get the others relatively easily)
Grab some fertiliser from the truck.
On the Old Mine Road keep escaping fights until you get a woman with red hair armed with a chainsaw.
While she's talking select the fertiliser and move in close.
The moment she stops talking throw the fertiliser in her eyes (harsh, but this is rough, tough biker fighting)
Miranda's last line when she gives Ben the fake ID is a classic.
Help me Ben, you're my only hope. :D
Just to make the next stopping point clear, we're looking at the end of the cutscene when Ben successfully crosses Poyahoga Gorge.
I've just finished the Old Mine Road section of the playthrough:
I'm really enjoying Full Throttle's story. I haven't played another game with a story remotely like it. The game's so freakin' cinematic! Things have most definitely just gotten more complicated for Ben and the Polecats...
...not only are they framed for Corley's murder, but Ben's got to track down Maureen and help out Miranda. The stakes have definitely risen! I loved the cutscene where Corley was killed and watching from the POV of Miranda's camera. I felt genuinely scared for her when she was caught. I liked Ben's escape through the police checkpoint. Also Corley's revelation about Mo certainly gives another perspective to the conversation she had with Ben back in the Melonweed section.
Ben: "This an authorized Corley service centre?"
Mo: "You could call this a Corley service centre... but I don't have the official paperwork."
Ben: "Ah, an illegitimate Corley operation!"
Mo: "I prefer to think of it as a renegade Corley operation."Now that's pretty freakin' awesome!
The game's locations continue to impress. I keep mentioning the atmosphere and I'm about to again... (Feel free to ignore if you get the point already. ;)) The increasing sense of urgency towards the beginning of this section not to mention the sense of being in the middle of nowhere after reaching Uncle Pete's Mink Ranch and its surrounds is great! Full Throttle's world feels so well realized. The music and sound effects once again add to this.
I love the recurring jokes about Ben and anything that's not a bike. The laugh he gives when he kicks the henchmen's hovercraft not to mention his "I don't touch anything without wheels!" comment when you try to touch it continues to amuse. (Maybe it's just me.) I also like Ben's sense of pride when you look at his bike. ("Man, that's a good looking bike!") Ben continues to be awesome to the max!
Other random things I loved about this section:Talking to Father Torque and getting to know about the Polecats and the other bike gangs. Seeing the Kickstand at night. Watching Emmet get chased by the Cave Fish. (Not to mention them thinking that the spirit of Ricky Myren was trying to steal the ramp when Ben tried to take it! :D) The whole puzzle structure around the bridge jump was great too and original. Very satisfying when Ben makes the jump! I suppose this section wouldn't be complete if I didn't mention the bike fights. I really don't mind them. They can be frustrating at times, but they're basically just puzzles. Once you work out the right combinations it's all good.
As always, I can't wait to play on. Sorry for the rambing too. ;)

That whole section was so cool. I'm definitely enjoying this game more second time around. I didn't find these bike fights difficult (it just seems to be that first one for some reason); once i had the chainsaw it was all pretty simple. I haven't been this excited playing an adventure game in ages. I loved setting that trap for Ripburger's henchmen and leading them straight to it. That combined with the rock music and racing down the highway was really cinematic. Even though the puzzles in this game are pretty simple it really doesn't prevent me from enjoying it in the slightest. Everything else is really good. I found it funny when you have to scratch the lights away, with the ramp, in the Cavefish's hideout and they all fall over the edge. :D
Looking forward to the next section.
EDIT: This should have been mentioned earlier but one of the gas guard pilots, at the tower, was the same guy who voiced Sam in Sam & Max Hit the Road. It's not really surprising but i just thought i'd mention it. No wonder his voice sounded familiar to me.

Ok Finally got time to catch up.... (Damn Financial Year end eating up all my time and making me work weekends...:pan::pan:)
Parts Section.
Breezed through this fairly quickly mostly because I remembered how to do all the puzzles. Like Stephen says the attention to detail is what really stands out in most old Lucasarts games. The little hints like the lights of the lift when you know on the trailer door showing you that there is a secret room, the amuzing animations when Ben tries to get from the pulley to the door before it closes etc etc
The dialogue in this game is top notch to go along with the superb voice work. The variety of amusing comments on non relevant hot spots and the little animation touches in cutscenses are an endless delight. Corelys dying speech "Minivans......Did you hear me....MINIVANS"
By now you are also hooked by the story and the emotional scene when Corley buys the farm (wonderfully shown via the camera) really grabs you and draws you in.
All in all another classic then...........
Mine-road
*Sigh* I really hate that section. I understand the reasoning behind it, Bikers and their reputation for fighting, but it is just damn repetitive riding around that road (it's slightly hypnotic hitting the cateseys, Bu-dump, Bu-dump, bu-dump)
Now it is part puzzle, kind of Rock/Paper/Scissors type puzzle, but it is still annoying. Like someone says get the chainsaw first and the rest are easy.
So..beat up some bikers invade a cave hidehout to steal a ramp (cue funny crashscenes) and one Evil Kineevil impersonation later and it's off to Corley motors.
My favourite bit is coming up soon.....Poor bunnies:\

The Old Mine Road section of the game is probably without a doubt my favorite section of the whole game. I just love controlling the bike, knocking people off their bike, and this might be a spoiler for those who haven't got there yet so sending Ripburger's goons into a mess of fertilizer
and of course this game has a lot of references to Star Wars in it. "Help me Ben, you're my only hope!" and the Cave Fish look like Sand People.:D
Oh yeah, I did play the knife game, don't know how to beat it though.

Once you've got the hang of the bike fights you never seem to forget how to do them (like riding a bike? :P ). However they are still annoying for one simple reason.
There are two bike fights you have to win to progress to the next section. The Vulture and the Cave Fish. If you mess up on one of these then you have to cycle round a whole bunch of other fights until they come up again. This is especially annoying with the Cave Fish as it's easy to mess up. You bring your bike too close in and it usually goes over and most weapons don't achieve the necessary effect.
There still is some great moments in this section though, and the cutscenes are great.
I never realised you could play the knife game. I'm going to have to go back and bug Emmett now. Is it European or American rules (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_knife_game)?

I remembered and dreaded the fights. Tried them, hated them, skipped the more difficult ones. (Shift +V)

Thanks Lucien, BUT... there's an unusual problem with it. I take it this save is supposed to be outside the Kick Stand just before talking to Emmett? I'm asking because whenever i try to talk to either Emmett or the bartender, it takes me straight to the junkyard where Ben's using the crane to deal with that dog.

Thing is, in the game the save is called start2 - 'starting point 2' i presume. So maybe you gave me the wrong save by accident? Maybe that save is supposed to be at the junkyard from when you went through 'starting point 2'? Still strange how it loads up that section at the Kick Stand though and takes me straight back to the crane.
I'm playing the Entertainment Pack release (XP etc. compatible, don't need scumm) and my Full Throttle doesn't even recognize Lucien's file as a savegame.

Phew,
I'm finally catching up. After getting owned in the parts-finding section--had to resort to walkthroughs an embarassing amount of times, was slightly annoyed some puzzles are solved without a hotspot--I finally solved most of the old mine section on my own.
The fighting was okay, I thought. I like it when adventure games throw in something other than point-and-click, like all those mini-games in Sam n' Max. It was the driving around waiting for the right biker to show up that got me down on the game. It reminded me too much of all those hours I wasted as a kid playing Final Fantasy and wandering around collecting experience points.
Felt especially accomplished when I figured out how to get the ramp out of the cave. And now i have to go back and try playing the knife game!
Any preliminary dates for the next section? (Impatient? Me? Never. ;))

Shall we say Tuesday 29 April.
I was going to scout ahead to find a suitable break point but wasn't feeling too good yesterday. From memory I'm thinking either the end of the destruction derby (after Ben escapes and finds out what Maureen does with the bike) or after breaking into Corley Motors and disrupting the shareholders meeting.
The second one was my original suggestion but breaking the game up a little more can make the playthrough last longer. What does everyone else think.
Alucard, I have a safe (conventional from DOSBox not SCUMMVM which may be your problem with Lucien's save) that would allow you to play the knife game. Not sure about uploading it anywhere but if you PM me an address I can e-mail it to you.

I enjoyed this section - jumping the gorge is a great goal to be aiming for.
I must admit I initially used the Shift-V cheat to instantly win the bike fights, but then I decided to go back and win them fair and square. Like many, I'm not a great fan of the fighting, but as has been mentioned, at least there is a slight puzzle element to it.
Navigating the mine road and fighting was almost impossible on the PocketPC, so had to stick to my PC on this section.
Favorite line: "Can't talk any more - eating too many bugs."

04-28-2008, 11:45 AM
Ok I was completely restless and played it right through to the end.
Corley Motors and Vulture Hideout
- Ok I loved the minefield puzzle in this section. (I'm still whistling Rise of The Valrkyies tonight) Poor Bunnies ;( Although I forgot to pick them all up and wondered why they all exploded before the end.
- Then there was the slightly annoying wall kicking excercise which even though I knew the solution I could get the exact part of the wall to kick and spent a good 10 minutes trying to break Bens toes. I don't know if I did this in the wrong order (i.e before I found the hideout) as you can't actually enter the office as yet.
Arena
- Kinda like the bike fights this section is a tad annoying. You get no warning on how to control the car and are just thrown into the deep end. I found going up the ramps an excercise in frustration and kept getting stuck half way up. The ramp in the bottom corner is the worst. (Note Max on arena Wall)
- Finally managed to disable the bad guys and put plan "inferno" in place.
- Cut scenes maintain their usual high standard and soon you have created a nice toasty reception and legged it back to the hideout.
THE FOLLOWING SPOILER COVERS LATER SECTIONS OF THE GAME
Board Meeting
- I liked the board meeting. The puzzle was ok, but nothing fantastic. The cut scene was brilliant especially when you solve the puzzle and put up the photos and play the will.
End Game
- And so it ends with a longish cutscene and a 2 or 3 timed puzzles. (Remeber the poor bunnies from earlier. Try feeding the fan :D) The first one was well thought out with the grill and the panel etc, but it seemed like you had 2 perfectly decent items that could have done the trick (i.e the chain was perfect), the 2nd was a random select the correct menu option before you crash and the 3rd was the same thing although this time is was more obvious as to the choice.
So it ends up with Mo taking over the company and turning into a corporate suit and leaving Ben to ride off into the sunset. A Bittersweet ending.
Speaking of the ending. Keep an eye on the credits for some giggles.
* Supporting the General Coolness
* Whined about not being in the credits
* Biker Haiku poems
* Thanks to the 40 specially trained Llamas :shifty:
and finally the bunnies hop off into the sunset to Rise of the Valkryies
------------------
Overall a very good, if a tad short, game. I think out of all the old Lucasarts licenses Full Throttle probably has the most scope for a sequel ( and please not this s**t http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjqAN72DoyU)
The action sequences were poorly executed. A better bike fight mechanic would have done wonders and the areana section was annoying.
Ben and the polecats are cool characters and the voice acting was perfect. IMO is also possesses (with the exception of maybe Grim Fandango) one of the best soundtracks ever.

Lucien, I've added a warning above your spoiler section to alert anyone playing for the first time that it covers sections of the game we haven't reached yet. Please copy these comments forward when we reach the appropriate sections.
For reference, if you did the kicking the wall section prior to going to the hideout then you definitely did things in the wrong order. The instructions on where to kick the wall are obtained at the hideout (i.e. you can't do it unless you've gone there or remember from an earlier playthrough)

Completed the second section and actually managed it without a walkthrough! I've read up on the parts that people had had trouble on and realised that I was mostly really lucky!
I accidently found the lift in the trailer when I was moving Ben out the way so that I could see the contents of the fridge. I also accidently found my way up into the car lift tower thingy when I was trying to exit the junkyard.
Some lucky flukes there! :P
I didn't realise that you could get up into the fuel tower. Mustn't have found the hot spot in the end.
FULL THROTTLE PLAYTHROUGH - PART IV - DESTRUCTION DERBY
(Don't read if you're still playing through the first, second or third part.)
Corley Motors and its surrounds are some of my favourite locations in Full Throttle, not to mention any other adventure. Definitely iconic looking and probably just as mysterious and cool as Melonweed. I liked how Ben was in awe when he stood outside the doors of HQ, comparing his trip to a pilgrimage. (With more ass kicking. ;)) I love the art design of this entire area with the ominous red sky and yellow-ish glow of HQ. (The place continues the definite post apocalyptic feel of the game.) The atmosphere here is incredibly cool, but by this point I think we've established that Full Throttle's nothing if not atmsopheric. :D Exploring here was a lot of fun.
I think my favourite puzzle in the entire game is the amusing solution to crossing the minefield:
What's not to love about clearing a minefield with mechanical bunnies!?! I enjoyed every part of this puzzle from acquiring the bunnies at the souvenir stand to the kick ass music as they crossed. Awesome, possibly even brilliant! :DUnfortunately this section also has the game's most frustrating moment: the destruction derby! The story here was feakin' great as usual, but it'd have been made a lot greater if the gameplay lived up to it. I know that it's basically just another puzzle like the bike fights, but this time the controls were pretty damn horrible. Luckily Full Throttle's patented fun resumed after the driving part. Escaping the arena was great!
Other random things I loved about this section:Talking my way out of Mo and the Vulture's brutal revenge, trying to pick up the Corley Motors sign, the amusing briefing of the destruction derby plan by that Vulture member (using intricate diagrams and all!) and Ben and Mo's obvious disguises at the arena. (I especially liked Mo's fake name.)It'd be very cool to learn more about Full Throttle's world and the apocalypse. Can't wait to play on!

I've fallen a bit behind but it sounds like everybody else is ready to disrupt the Corley shareholders meeting. Feel free to carry on without me and I'll try to catch up.
I'd highly recommend allowing yourself to get caught and messing up the switches in this section a few times each. Both produce variations that I remember enjoying last time I played.
This is relatively short so I think we'll be OK for doing the grand finale and the titles at the weekend.
Other than that I love the bunny puzzle, it's great. Sad, but funny.:D
Got to love the bunnies! ;)
In the Russian/English adventure game GAG you need a mine detector to get safely to the other side of a mine field. But when you click emptyhanded on the field, a bunny starts running across and gets mowed down by a machine gun. Our hero remarks: "The Full Throttle version is definitely not going to work here." :D

FULL THROTTLE PLAYTHROUGH - PART V - THE SHAREHOLDER'S MEETING
(Don't read if you're still playing through the first, second, third or fourth sections.)
Man, this part was great! I loved sneaking around Corley Motors and interrupting the meeting.
Some of my favourite moments:
The question to Mo about day care, Ripburger's mini van pitch as well as his attempt to stall by telling a joke, the slides of Corley's murder appearing as Ripburger talked about the more aggressive corporate policy and the hilarious voice acting of the projectionist woman. The puzzles were reasonably simple, but a lot of fun. Good times!

I need help. I had to do a restore on my computer. I backed up my Full Throttle folder, but I guess my save games were in a ScummVM folder and so I've lost all my progress. As fun as it was, I don't really feel like playing through it all again. I'm at the point where Ben has tipped over the crashed semi near the mine road, anyone care to share a save from this point? I tested the save file that was posted before and it works fine with my version, but of course, its still a ways before where I want to be.

FULL THROTTLE PLAYTHROUGH - PART VI - ENDGAME
(Don't read if you're still playing through the first, second, third, fourth or fifth sections.)
Full Throttle's been a freakin' awesome ride and this climatic section does not disappoint! After the shareholder's meeting Ripburger's on the run, persued by Ben, Mo and the Vultures in what is pretty much an extended chase scene. The puzzles here are decent and mostly intuitive. I don't really have a problem with the timed stuff. (In fact it may have contributed to the adrenaline rush of the scene, with more at stake for Ben.) The game is pretty forgiving if you mess things up as well, taking you back to a point close to where you were. I got stuck on this part a couple of times, but the solutions to these puzzles made a lot of sense...Although I agree with Lucien21's earlier comments about using the items already in your inventory to stop the fan, but it was still pretty fun and a well thought out puzzle getting Ripburger's cane. The entire chase sequence was pretty damn creative. I mean what other game has you trying to stop a plane before crashing into a gorge while battling your nemesis? :D I liked the hilarious options on the plane's monitor, not to mention the iconic escape on the bike at the end!I really loved the ending sequence. A very satisfying conclusion to such an awesome story. The solidarity of all the bikers at Corley's funeral was great. Corley had been a good friend to these guys and it made sense that they all came together to pay their respects.
Mo and Ben's chemestry was built up so believably in such a short amount of time. The scene where they talked in Mo's limo was excellent. They're in different worlds now -- Ben knows his place, Mo accepts hers. Mo is in her element and was made to run Corley Motors. I get the feeling that the company is definitely in the right hands. It was awesome to see Ben ride off into the sunset, on course for his next adventure! Some of the other things I loved about this section:The "Can't beat a Corley" inscription on the number plate Ripburger stares at before meeting his end... such a freakin' awesome moment. The Vultures. I love those guys! The excellent animation of all the cutscenes! Ben using the remaining bunnies on the fan was amusing too. It was great seeing them make a final appereance at the end of the credits.Full Throttle is a really short game, but the story it tells is excellent. Amazingly cinematic from beginning to end. The pacing is great too! (Although breaking the game into sections and playing over a couple of weeks instead of hours might have interrupted the pace. :D The benefit of playing and discussing the game with others more than made up for this, though!) The game's design serves the story well and I didn't get the feeling that obstacles were thrown in just to slow Ben's progress. The game has its problems that are mostly destruction derby related (;)), but the good most definitely outweighs the bad in my opinion.
It's a shame that Full Throttle didn't get a proper sequel. There were two attempts. Mojo has information and art for Payback (http://www.mixnmojo.com/php/site/gamedb.php?gameid=116), the more traditional follow up that was cancelled. They also have info on Hell on Wheels (http://www.mixnmojo.com/php/site/gamedb.php?gameid=18), the cancelled action follow up that was... less traditional. ;)
I've had an awesome time playing through Full Throttle again! Thanks arrr_matey for suggesting the playthrough, stepurhan for shepherding us through with stop points and the like and everyone else for posting. It's been a unique and fun way to play through the game.

Well said D.C. I have nothing more to say about 'Full Throttle' as you've summed up pretty much everything. :7
You've left me with tears in my eyes. ;)

I'm really torn about this game. On the one hand, it was really funny and original and had good characters. And on the other hand, I found it annoying and frustrating to play.
I think I'd rather have watched a one-hour Full Throttle cartoon than played the game. The cutscenes and art were what I liked about the game. The actual gameplay... not so much.
Too many "puzzles" were just cheap frustration exercises, I thought. Either there's no actual hotspot, or you have to click every millimetre of a wall to find the right spot, or you're fighting the controls during the "action" sequences. I don't know. I was really disappointed playing Full Throttle. It was short. There weren't many locations. Character interaction was minimal. It felt like half a game.
Maybe I had my expectations too high? Maybe my brain wasn't in obscure puzzle-solving mode? Maybe Full Throttle just isn't as good as people remember it?
