Hey!
I recently had my computer upgraded and it's all going swimmingly...apart from the sound. It works for some things, but not others. Media Player doesn't work and some games have no sound, I just get a window saying something along the lines of "Direct Sound Failed". I've tried to sort it myself, but have reached the extent of my (rather limited) knowlage. If anyone could give me any advice on how to sort this I would greatly appreciate it!
Cheers,
David.

Try going here (www.microsoft.com/directx) and getting the latest version of DirectX. Also go to the website of your soundcard manufacturer and get their latest drivers.

I've got the latest DirectX and it doesn't seemed to help. I'm sorry if I seem really ignorant now, but how do you check what your sound card is? I didn't actually choose it myself, we just got the computer upgraded as a package.
Again, thanks for any help!

Start menu, Run, type 'dxdiag'. Click the Sound tab, your soundcard should be listed there, with the driver information on the right side. The manufacturer should be noted somewhere there... If it's a big company like Creative (www.creativelabs.com), finding drivers will be easy. It's the smaller, more obsure companies you need to worry about. If you get really stuck, try Drivers Guide. Also, when you click the sound tab in dxdiag, make sure that 'hardware acceleration' is enabled.
