Hello all!
I'm new to this forum but I have been playing adventure games since forever!
It's my favourite kind of games!
I have one question for you.
Which adventure would u recommend for me to play right now?
Pretty recent if possible.
I haven't played a good adventure since Gabriel Knight 3.
Thanks in advance!

Hmm... What games have you played?
If pretty resent, you should give Runaway a try, and make sure you get Broken Sword 3 with you when it's released.
And then there's those games that's on everyones lists, like Grim Fandango and The Longest Journey.
Depends on what you like and have played already.

Well you haven't specified what kind of adventure you're looking for. But I'll reccomend you something nevertheless:

I'm selling those fine leather jackets!

Discworld Noir - great detective story, with excellent puzzles, dark, brilliant Pratchett humor.

Grim Fandango- a huge epic tale of crime and corruption in the land of the dead ;), excellent story, tons of fantastic characters, smart and witty dialogs.

Syberia - moody-melancholic and beautiful story about the relics of the past world.

The Longest Journey - one of the finest fairy tales out there at the moment telling the story of two worlds (Stark - futuristic technic, Arcadia - fairy magic).

Thanks for your replies guys!
I haven't played any adventure games recently.
But I'd like something like a detective story in third person view.
U know murders, detectives, riddles...
And not a science fiction one.
thanks again!

Ok... I'll add to the list:

Broken Sword - Just what you described.

The Neverhood - One of my all time favorites.

Monkey Island - So start panning me, but I recommend the fourth. It might have something to do with that I played that one first, but I find it refreshing and funny. The third is also worth checking out.

What is the story of the neverhood briefly Nordic?

What is the story of the neverhood briefly Nordic?
Hmm... It's one of those games which you are better off just playing, because telling the story will spoil the game.
But basically, it's about Klaymen and...um...it's all made in klay. :P
It's a bit on the weird side, but totally unique.
And it has got great humor and good puzzles.

I haven't played this, but Runaway: Road to Adventure seems to be the newest one getting the hype (atleast in North America, I think).

AGamers gave it a good rating, so I trust it's pretty good. Am going to get it myself pretty soon :D

No problem.

Yes Wajus!
GK is my favourite series of games!
I love all the mystery in them!
But Discworld isn't it a bit too comic like??
I would like more realistic graphics if possible!
Thanks for the recommendation though :)

Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars, and it's sequel Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror. If you haven't played these two, I would strongly recommend it, as Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon is due for release 10/10, and it would be beneficial, and most enjoyable, to be up to date with the series.

Well I recommend it still nevertheless ;)
I heard that Black Dahlia is a great, realistic, detective adventure. You may also want to try Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars (aka Circle of Blood).

Dante - the first 2 discworld games are cartoony, but Discworld Noir takes a much more realistic and gritty approach. It's one of the best adventures I've played, I'd definitely recommend it.

How adept are you at a bit of combat and action? If you can supply some skills there I think you'd love Blair Witch Volume 1: Rustin Parr (http://blairwitch.godgames.com/vol_1.htm). It's actually a 50/50 mix of classic adventure and third person action, so I would call it an adventure/action game. As the title implies it's based on the Blair Witch mythos but does not recreate the story in the film. Instead, it presents the background story in a period setting (1941), and you play Elspeth 'Doc' Holliday, a government agent investigating the murders of seven children in a backwoods town. There is an overwhelming supernatural theme centered on Native American myths, beliefs, and folklore, lite interaction with non-playable characters, a disturbing mature theme on macabre rituals, heavy exploration and investigation, and some of the very best designed puzzles I've ever come across (technology based and cyphers). The difficulty settings can be mixed-n-matched to your skill level; I suggest 'easy' combat and 'hard' puzzles. Very scary game, the atmosphere is deep and thick, the graphics and gameworld jawdroppingly beautiful. The site has some screenshots and more info. Gamespy gave it a 92/100 in their review (http://www.gamespy.com/reviews/september00/blairwitch/).

If you like historical themed mysteries, I also 'lightly' recommend The Messenger (from the erstwhile Dreamcatcher). I state 'lightly' because I wasn't entirely impressed with it on technical issues, but the story and background were what really drew me in. You play Morgana Sinclair, a stunning British Secret Service covert operative who must infiltrate the Louvre Museum to find and steal artifacts that, if in the wrong hands, could unleash Armageddon. In the process you meet a spirit entity, a member of the Black Templars who was involved in the creation of these artifacts, and he gives you the power to go back in time to 3 key periods of the Louvre's past to find the artifacts. The Messenger makes for a fantastic cool thriller and I took a particular interest in some of its stronger aspects: the various historical settings, plot and subplots, intrigue, murder, double crossings, arcane magic, a surprising plot twist. There are timed, inventory based, and situational puzzles that are nicely designed, but there are a couple of puzzles that may have you pulling your hairs out in frustration. Pretty cool concept for an adventure game. Worth looking into. I wrote a review (http://www.epinions.com/content_32121392772) of it for Epinions.com if you're interested. I also wrote a review (http://www.epinions.com/content_32031936132) for Blair Witch Vol. 1. :P

Oh, and I almost forgot. I haven't played it yet, but try Post Mortem (http://www.pcgameworld.com/redirect.php?url=http://www.dreamcatchergames.com/postmortem), a mature themed noir style murder mystery set in Paris during the 1920s. It received reasonably good reviews.

You should try out the demo then:

I just don't think that Post Mortem is a par exclellence adventure game. At least not to the extent to reccomend it to anyone.

You will definately want to pick up Revolutions In Cold Blood. Be sure to check back soon for the Adventure Gamers review. This game is wrought with murder, mystery, espionage, and a little light combat to boot;all unfolding within the confines of an excellent story.

Also, check out our review of Nightlong: Union City Conspiracy (http://www.adventuregamers.com/display.php?id=55). Pretty cool game with nice graphics, and decent story.

Intrepid- is the easy&difficult setting in BW similar to the one in Silent Hill? I remember playing the demo a while ago but i thought it's just another kill it all nobrainer. Screens&story look very promising though (i also like the movie) and after finishing SH3 i need a new horror fix ;)

Intrepid Homoludens

Yes, it's similar to the SH series. The viewpoint is just like Resident Evil, i.e. fixed camera position. There's an option to auto-aim, too.

...i need a horror fix...

You too, eh? :P I plan on getting SH3 for PC and Nosferatu next month. If you loved Clive Barker's Undying you'll like Nosferatu. Look for the thread in General Gaming to read up on it.

Does it matter which part of BW you play first (1 or 2)? Are they connected with story, or are they two completely separated games? It seems there's only BW2 available in our local store.

Btw, SH3 will scare the s**t out of you. The game itself is even better than second part (ok, maybe overally a wee bit less scarry... but there are some scenes that will literary pop your heart out :D).

BW1 is the best of all 3 (and stands strongly on its own regardless of the other 2), according to all the reviews I've read. After that they say BW2 is mediocre but still rather enjoyable, and BW3 sucks big time.

Good. Looking forward to it.

Ok I just finished playing the Postmortem demo and I must say that I was generally satisfied with the small part of its plot that I saw.
But it is in first person view and I really hate that.
I love classic third person perspective adventures.
So I think I'll just wait for Broken Sword 3 and Black Mirror...

I have to throw in my vote as well for Discworld Noir as well, as it fits precisely the description you mentioned (third-person detective mystery sort of thing). Excellent game, dark, gritty humour, can't go wrong. Grim Fandango is sort of similar (at least tangentially) but it is not as dark. It is, on the other hand, the best adventure I've ever played.

Yes, we insist you give a try to the dark and witty Discworld Noir.
Either this or Grim Fandango - it's always nice to try something new and challenging.

Really? Huh. It's been on my shelf for a long time now, and I haven't even installed it yet. Maybe I should.

Though, weren't there some kind of problems with running it on XP?

With patches, other programs and such messy stuff?

I think there's something called "safedisc" that prevents from copying the Discworl Noir cd's. The problem is I guess that XP is not compatible with this "utility". You will have to replace the executable with the special (though I guess illegal) replacement-one that removes the copy protection. You can find it here:

DanteGR: You should look into The Watchmaker, It is a pretty good game (I've played it twice) - I wouldn't exactly call it great but its a good and entertaining adventure game that sometimes comes across as a really really dumbed down GK game. (But that doesn't mean anything consdering GK is the greatest and most kick-ass adventure game series of all time! :))

If you want to play an older game maybe you should try The Colonals Bequest and The Dagger Of Amon Ra. You've probably heard of them before but if you haven't they are by Sierra and are in the Laura Bow series of adventures. Probably up there with Sierras best. In the first game the main character travels with her friend to an island estate where a faimly dispute establishes itself as a very awesome murder mystery. The second game revolves around a murder mystery that takes place in a New York City Museum.

Post Mortem is an okay game... It's probably similiar to The Watchmaker were it is fun and entertaining to play but isn't exactly great. I liked the game and if you liked the demo (Even though you said you didn't like the first person perspective) you could potentially like this game.

Although like you said Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon and The Black Mirror are being released pretty soon and they both look awesome. :)

I'll throw in Discworld Noir too. It's got Wit but it's pretty dark and mysterious too.
