It's the best way for me to clear my head after a long day of work.

I used to read a lot - 4-5 books a day, it could be about WW2, dramas, crimes, Ludvig 14th(king of france in the 18th century).
But slowly adventure games took over and I emerged myself into those fantastic stories. (LucasArt and Sierra) :P

As for all kind of games, I play adventures to entertain myself.

I also sometimes tend to play through really 'bad' games (or at least games with huge flaws at certain areas), to learn what it really is that makes a game good.
That, of course, is just one of my own weird habits. As someone who want to someday, make a game, that could be considered good.

Just for fun, and sort of to stretch my brain a little. I don't do it to waste time, because I never have any time to waste. I have to specifically set aside time for things like games, and I enjoy using the time on Adventure games.

To entertain myself mostly. BUT:

to be honest whenever I'm feeling bad or sad for whatever reasons, I've noticed I play more adventure games than ever; I really look to play adventure games then to distract myself from life. If there's no new games I replay something. I sometimes even find comfort and inspiration from characters and gameworld when things aren't going so good for myself. And no other game but adventure games can do this for me. Might sounds stupid, but oh well. ;)

I agree with the majority, entertainment all the way. I got hooked on games in those early days when personal/home computers first came on the market over at Radio Shack, dear old TRS-80. The pioneer days when everything was new and amazing. I remember the Dancing Demon, a stick figure that sort of tapdanced to a happy tune! I guess you could say it was the first graphic since up to then it was all text. Like "you are standing in front of a house with a mailbox ..." Then came Sierra with King's Quest and even when I was stuck or getting killed or frustrated in other ways by the syntax (before the games went to icons) I found myself enchanted. Maybe it was the newness of it all and I was a whole lot younger, but the games seemed to have more adventuring fun than today's games. Today the developers seem to lean heavily on graphics (with just the right shadows yet, sheesh) and go lightly on the entertainment side of the adventure. They go for the mind-bending, logical puzzle instead of the silly, whimsical use of the inventory that often made one really laugh at the solution. My husband and I are retired so we have time to play. He chooses model radio-controlled electric planes and I go for the adventure games, not the shooters, fighting, action stuff though.
