Hello :)

Just joined up today! No introduction section...

In the past i've played all the Monkey Island games, all the Broken Sword ones, all the Sherlock Holmes ones (i think), the latest Poirot one, the Jack the Ripper one and then a few random ones in between... The Dig, a Sam and Max one and a Disc World Noir one...

I love murder mysteries! Poirot, Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone ofc), Miss Marple (Margarate Rutherford) and *cough* nvm. :P

I've been spending most of my time playing MMOs or FPS but now i'm on the look out for another Adventure. I'm not sure which would tick my boxes though so if anyone can make a suggestion i'd be grateful :)

I'm looking for:
- Advanced graphics - looks really nice and realisitc, not necessarily 3D, just really well drawn.
- Well written plot, maybe a little sinister. Not comedy or silly.
- Really high review rating
- Famous Sleuths go down well - Arthur Conan Doyle or Agatha Christie, etc but not necessary.

I'll be looking through the lists on here but just incase ;)

I hope i can get back into Adventure games more in the future :)

Hello back, LouiseK. I'm surprised that you aren't interested in games with a sense of humor; Monkey Island and Broken Sword are kind of the gold standard for that, in my opinion, and I always enjoy a laugh, especially if it's clever. Having said that, I've played and enjoyed the Agatha Christie games despite their limitations, but if sinister is what you're after, perhaps Silent Hill is your cup of poisoned tea. :D Most everyone here is better informed than I am about different genres within the AG, so I'll just step back now and let the chorus begin. Happy hunting--

Hello LouiseK, and welcome. :)

The obvious recommendation for you might be Still Life, which lots of people seem to have loved (I'm personally not especially fond of it, but...). The Sherlock Holmes games by Frogwares might also be of interest, though they have lots of problems (see the reviews); the latest one, Sherlock Holmes vs. Arsène Lupin (soon to be released in English) might prove better (?).

There are also various games you might enjoy on the Nintendo DS. Hotel Dusk has a very good plot, with great writing and characterisation. The Phoenix Wright games are also great. There is lots of humour in them, true, but they can also get pretty dark and tragic, with strong characters that you'll come to care for – and complicated mysteries to solve. Those games alone would justify buying a DS.

Welcome to AG Louise! :)

My brain isn't wanting to work well and think up other games but I will direct you to this thread (http://www.adventuregamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19960) that has some threads with game recommendations (you may have seen it already, but here's the link just in case).

I will echo Kurufinwe's DS (http://www.adventuregamers.com/gameinfo.php?id=667) recommendations (http://www.adventuregamers.com/gameinfo.php?id=845) and add another, Another Code (http://www.adventuregamers.com/gameinfo.php?id=530) (known as Trace Memory in North America). That's also a terrific game with a wonderful, mysterious story. (for the Phoenix Wright games, look at the related games tab to get links to the other games in the series for the info). Of course those recommendations may be for the future if you don't have a DS and ever decide to get one.

Also, one game that will be released next year that you may want to keep an eye on is Mata Hari (http://www.adventuregamers.com/gameinfo.php?id=958). Just scroll down the page to see links to a preview and other articles. There's a link to our reviews page at the top of the forum site as well to check out any suggestions you see here. :)
