OK, challenge of the day time. YEARS ago, before I really got into adventure games, a friend lent me one which I'd like to get back to now - if only I could remember what it was called. Here's where you guys come in:

The only things I can remember about this game are that as it starts, you wake up with little to no memory. Contemporary civilisation is long gone and I think society has degenerated to a pseudo-middle ages state, with lots of neglected tech left over from 'today'. One of the early puzzles involves picking up a 'mirror disk' - unknown to the character as a CD-ROM.

Now, from that VERY vague recollection, can anyone name it? Kudos to anyone who can!

Dark Earth (http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/dark-earth)?

Hmm... could be. I don't remember any combat, although my recollections of the game are admittedly incredibly vague. Bits of the story synopsis sound familiar though, thanks.

Anyone else have any candidates?

I have played Dark Earth (and still have it ;) ). It is an OK game, but not really the game, you're looking for, I think.

Many, many years ago, I got a game called 'angel devoid' which takes place in a sort of cyberpunk/gothic world in which you wake up without memory.
However, the plot revolves around identity and identity theft etc. so I don't this is your game, OP.

Do you remember whether or not the world suffered from a nuclear war.
I immediately thought of Fallout 1 when you talked about the game, but that's an rpg, so it can't be Fallout...

Could it be Necrotech? But that's an rpg, of sorts, too...

Is the feel of the game like steampunk or cyberpunk ?? If you can remember that??

It's definitely not Cyberpunk. Steampunk is a better fit but still not quite right. Definitely not a Fallout-style RPG though.

Hi greywing :)

I just did a little digging and found this

http://www.mobygames.com/game-group/steampunk-games

One of the games talked about is amerzone (click on link below)

But as you talk about you, the player walking up in sort of steampunk world, I don't think it that game either.

Do you remember how many years ago it was that you got introduced to this game you want to find again? Was it 10-15 years ago, or was it more than that ??

Thanks for the links Aries - it's definitely not Amerzone though and I can't see anything on the steampunk list that fits. It's more the opposite of steampunk - present day technology rediscovered in a future society as they rebuild following widespread collapse.

I'm 24 now and I was loaned the game when I was about 16 or so. That'd make it at least 8 years old.

Hi Greywing :)

I have been looking into this some more. But so far, I haven't had any luck...

Do you remember if the game you was loaned (or borrowed from a friend) was more of an rpg or an adventure game or maybe some sort of cross genre or hybrid game??

Can you remember any thing, even the the slightest detail about the game's main plot??

As I understand it, there's been a war, a disaster of sorts and then the game takes place today? or in the future?? --- and then they (re)discover some of today's technology, like the cd-rom, you mentioned? And the game is from about 1999-2001 or so??

It takes place in the <far?> future - civilisation has fallen and been rebuilt. No knowledge of our times exist, just relics of technology that no-one knows how to use. For example, when you find the CD, your character doesn't know what it is even though you as the player does. Everything else I can remember I've already posted. Thanks for trying to help!
