Need help with broken sword 4 sewers

Hi all i'm new here have read all through the hints on the broken sword thread, but as it i now closed the posts on there dont seem to help :\
Can some one help me here?
I'm in the sewers in the catacombs and i'm at the point with the valves,i've followed previous spoilers to try to get past these but to no avail. :frusty:
i'm at the point of giving up as i have tried every which way i can can someone give me a more in depth spoiler to help me get past.

Could you post some details of the things you've already tried (in spoiler tags please) If we can get an idea of what you've done already we may be able to work out what step you've missed.
