Hi all,

I am in desparate need of a saved game for Gabriel Knight I, day 6. The game I was playing crashed during the Voodoo ritual. I recently got a Windows CD version of the game from a friend of mine, but it doesn't take my old saved games. If somebody could help me out by sending me a saved game for this version, or telling me where to find one I would be very happy. The software I have now is a Sierra Originals GK I CD with a GK II demo included.

Cheers, Tsa

I don't have any GK save games, but you might want to post the version of your game, for compatibility. Open the version file on the CD and whether you are playing the DOS or Windows version (the CD has both). Save games, as you have found out, only work with the version that they were saved with.

That's interesting, thanks! That may mean there is a version on the CD that works for me. I'll look into that. I'll keep you informed.

Well I also installed the DOS-version from the CD but that didn't work at all, so I seem to be stuck with the Windows version. The file 'VERSION' in the root of the CD contains the word '01.100.000'.

Did you use the Hendroz installer or apply the NRS patch?

I have no idea what you're talking about ;) I just put the CD in there and clicked SETUP.EXE or INSTALL.EXE. Then I made a link on my desktop to the right file, and told XP to run it in Win95 compatibility mode. This worked for the SETUP.EXE but not the INSTALL.EXE.

I'm not sure what the NRS is, but the Hendroz installer refers to this (http://vogons.zetafleet.com/gkpatches/).

I played GK1 using that and was extremely happy. I know Kurufinwe and ATMachine prefer using DOSBox to run GK1 because it gives you some sharper icons but the installer was easier for me. :)

NRS = NewRisingSun. NewRisingSun has created a number of patches for many of the bugs in the Sierra SCI games. Most notable is the one that makes QfG4 playable.
NewRisingSun's GK1 CD patch (http://www.tawmis.com/collector/Files/Patches/GabrielKnight/GK1CD_NRS.ZIP).
This will allow you to play either the DOS or Windows version.

I tried all the things you told me about, and they worked for getting the game to run in Windows, but not for being able to load my saved games. Then I ran the version of the game I had problems with, and skipped the movie that it crashed on. That worked! I can finish the game now. I'm happy!

Again, thanks for all your efforts.
