happy fall equinox
September 21, the official calender date. This is pretty much my favourite season out of the entire year, the shifting of growth onto harvest, states of mind preparing to turn inward to the privacies of introspection (reaching its deepest on the first days of winter), the body in an acute phase of motion for the colder, brilliant, northern climes. It's during this time of year that I actually accomplish more, am more active, think more deeply and enrichingly, and generally feel more alive. Perhaps it's the visually spectacular changing of the guards as the trees whittle themselves of their leaves, announcing the dynamic cycle of life and death. It could be the crisp cooler air, the winds migrating with promises of apples in season, hot ciders spiked with rum, and homemade soup simmering. I don't know, all I know is that I can't wait to wear my merino wool and cashmere turtlenecks again!
Any other autumn fanbois here? :)

I'm from San Diego, California. We don't have seasons.
Now I live in Berkeley, California, and it's not TOO much different.

Well, my birthday is in October, but that's the best thing about Fall. I'm more of a summer person, myself.
And don't get me started on winter: The Devil Season. :)

Paris in the fall, the last months of the year. Blessed autumn, come hither.

October houses the anniversary of my birth, but besides that there's litle else going for it. Besides dead crunchy leaves.

Don't tell me your son painted that picture? Is he an artist? How old is he? The colouring is exquisite. You just have to love it.
I actually dislike this time of the year. It signifies the restart of school, temperatures are uncomfortably high and in due time become uncomfortably low. Leaves all over the ground, few on the trees.
Yuck.
:D
Well, it really isn't that bad, but I prefer April/May ;)
My son just turned 12. He goes to an art school, as a musician (he plays clarinet), and has to try all of the art forms while he's there. This is by far the best thing he's ever made. It was a fluke, an accidental masterpiece ;)

I have to agree, the colors are gorgeous in that picture. I can't stop looking at it... (seriously)
He goes to an art school, as a musician
That's awesome.

Beautiful, beautiful artwork by your son, Jen. :) I can tell you cherish this one.
But you must have had it custom framed by professionals. If not yet, go do it!! It's worth the money, I guarantee. I suggest having them use a very clean, simple frame of dark brown or black semi-precious wood. Ask to have the art matted, with bevelled finish in, say, a cold press stock board with a warm tinge (ivory or lightest grey). Finally, specify the glass to be UV-coated to help preserve the water colours in case you hang the art where direct sunlight passes. If I had a kid that talented I'd hate to see his little masterpieces treated less nobly.

Ooh, that line sends shivers down my spine ...
In any case, I adore autumn. I don't think anyone who doesn't have such a sweltering summer can possibly appreciate what a breath of fresh air it is for us at the moment .. after an entire 3-4 months of 36-40 degree weather, with precisely one rainfall in those months (in Malta there is always precisely one rainfall during the entire summer months.. don't ask me why), the dankness and humidity, the sweltering air that seems to be sweating along with you .. the suddenly sharp air comes as such a relief. For the first rainfall of the season, you can literally taste the difference in the air .. it's a joy to go out, get drenched and shiver in the new freshness.
Even the fact that school's going to start .. perhaps it's because I've always loved this season, and associate starting school with this weather, but it always makes me feel fresh and excited, just like the season .. starting anew, all over again. In any case, I'm far happier when I've got a settled routine, and after 3 (or this year 4) months of summer holidays I'm more than ready to get stuck in again. Thinking of cold nights ahead, snuggled in under my quilt, listening to the rain crash against my window .. can things get any better? :)

As I hate extremities autumn and spring are my favourite. I love when it's raining all days. I love the leaves on the ground, the world is so colorful when covered by this russet blanket and the moody atmosphere of autumn just adds to this incredible bitter-sweet autumn expierience.
Yep, autumn rules.
Intrepid, I had it framed with a royal purple mat (bee-ooo-tiful!) and a light brown wood frame with a tinge of yellow in the stain.

I'm a fan of autumn, but not for such profound reasons as y'all. I like the cooler temperatures, the calming breeze, the pretty colors in the treeze, and the crunch of leaves below my kneeze.
