official demo (http://www.gamershell.com/download_3455.shtml?q=Nosferatu) (Gamer's Hell mirrors)
Whoah, I think I like this one. It'll remind you quite a bit of Clive Barker's Undying. The theme is vampires, circa 1912. You play as a young sword champion and son of a British lord, and your sister is to wed the son of a mysterious Romanian count, but when you arrive to meet your family at the host's ancient castle you discover that they have been kidnapped, imprisoned deep within the estate, and will be sacrificed. Your mission is to find and rescue each one.
I haven't finished the demo yet. I died twice, and each time you restart the level the random architecture generator would re-arrange everything (from the rooms to item placement to where the rescue victims are hidden) so that your memory of the previous layout is practically useless, and you must start from scratch. And then you have only 30 minutes or less to find your family members. And most of the gameworld is very dark. And then all these hideous beasties keep coming at you, and from anywhere at anytime - from the ceilings, from the floors, the walls, behind you. This game is NOT for you weaklings who scare easily or cannot react with split second timing. There is no resting during the playing because enemies can suddenly come out of nowhere. Each enemy has its exclusive weakness and can only be killed with a particular weapon.

The tradeoff for the random architecture generator is that the graphics are rather outdated. I actually think that Undying had a much more pleasingly designed world. However, Nosferatu drips of atmosphere, very excellently done. The sound is exquisite, again just a few notches below the quality of Undying, but overall quite impressive. You guys need to try the demo and tell me what you think. This is the perfect game to play on a cold windy autumn night, with all the lights out and the sound turned up, it's definitely up there with Undying, Thief, System Shock 2, Nocturne, Silent Hill series, and Blair Witch Volume 1. Oh, and it comes out just before Hallowe'en! http://216.40.249.192/s/contrib/sarge/Paranoid_anim.gif
