I love the Myst series of adventure games-beautiful graphics, lots of medium to hard puzzles with much variety, and just finsihed Myst V. I am having difficulty finding new adventure games which are similar. I did not like Syberia (puzzles too easy and inventory based) and did not like Broken Sword, not my type of puzzles.
I am new to this site, and find the reviews difficult to assess in terms of Myst-like adventure games. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks-MA

Welcome to the forums, Mary Anne. :)
Aura (http://www.adventuregamers.com/gameinfo.php?id=274) and Keepsake (http://www.adventuregamers.com/gameinfo.php?id=442) might be your style of games, with some rather clever, not inventory-based, puzzles. Aura's plot didn't make much sense to me (and Keepsake's sucks), but if you've been through Myst V, you must have got used to that. ;)
Safecracker (http://www.adventuregamers.com/gameinfo.php?id=824) is extremely good too, though the focus is only on logic puzzles there.

I was in the exact same situation as you are now when I first came to this forum. I had then played the URU games as well: URU Ages Beyond Myst and the expansion pack The Path of the Shell. They are both amazing!
I second Kurufinwe's suggestion about Aura. It has got nice puzzles, beautiful scenery and great music, but sadly no story. ;)

Also, Alida is along the same lines as the Myst series....I also highly recommend Sentinel and Schizm II - beautiful atmospheres in both games...:)

Yes, Sentinel is very much a "puzzle-game". Some puzzles delightful and others quite difficult. I liked it although it took me over a year to fisnish it.

RHEM and RHEM 2 are challenging puzzle-oriented games. I don't think they'd meet your "beautiful graphics" requirement, but you can find screenshots here: http://rhem-game.com/
and make up your own mind whether the graphics are good enough. The puzzles are mostly mechanical puzzles and are medium to difficult. I had problems with getting lost in the first RHEM game, so a good sense of direction helps (or a good map). Whether the puzzles are "too hard" or not depends on whether you have an affinity for the types of puzzles they use.
The DVD version of the first Schizm game had good graphics (the CD version was blurry). IMO the first Schizm game was even more difficult than the RHEM games. Schizm was renamed Mysterious Journey by the US publisher.
If you're from the US, be aware that the publisher of Sentinel has republished the game as Realms of Illusion. You'll find it for sale in the US under both names. No need to buy it twice.
Theres an older title called Lighthouse that Sierra put out - the graphics wont be nearly as impressive as you might be used to, but I did enjoy the story line alot.
There is also a game called Timelapse which I enjoyed a lot which was a 4 cd 1st person adventure like Myst - again, it will probably look dated - but the story line was intriguing to me =)

I have this and haven't played a lot of it yet but if you have an old system with Windows 95, 98 (or even ME), it'll work fine on there. On XP, you can check out this site (http://home.earthlink.net/~infernofilecabinet3/XpSetupsK_O/lighthousesetup.htm) for a detailed method to get it to run on XP. (Sorry Kurufinwe. :P)

I've played this more than once. :D It is a very fun game. I've never tried this one with XP.

Dark Fall, Barrow Hill, and the best-Zork Nemesis!

How about The Neverhood? I know this is an ancient title, and it's a bit odd, being claymation...but you might enjoy it. It was creative and puzzle based, and I, as a big Myst fan, managed to really get into it...it's atmospheric and a bit loony.

my suggestions are
Obsidian (one of the best FP adventures ever)
schizm 2 (the best fiction world i've encountered, stunning graphics)
Zork nemesis(classic game)
Barrow hill & scratches were two very good independant releases this year
cydonia (warning :some bad implemented puzzles here but pretty nice world)
and the winner is(are actually):
Return to missing island, voyage(especially this one) and echo from kheops, definitely a must play all the three games from the best studio out there.

about lighthouse,i consider it a mediocre adventure, sierra was very good in shivers 2 (and definitely not the first one, which is probably the most irritating and infuritating FP adventure ever published!!!)
