OK, Adventure Gamers, the GK Tribute is completed and thanks to some help from my earlier thread, the compression is complete.
I've spent the better part of the past week working non-stop on this project, watching it mutate from some little 5 minute tribute to a big 15+ minute tribute. Working from over 300 Megabytes worth of files (including images from Voodoo, German, British, and New Orleans history as well as music from such styles as Jazz, African Tribal Beats, Medieval, and various National Anthems ), this has been by far more personal to me than I meant it to be at the beginning.
I cried after cutting together the nostalgic "Girl in the Tower" opening. I cried after listening to the finished audio mix. And I cried this morning after watching the whole finished piece together.
Words can not express how much I care about games, or the Gabriel Knight series in particular. Maybe it's because I'm a 1/3 German, I don't know... When I was in middle school, I used a tape recorder to record the entire GK 1 soundtrack onto audio cassette; I also walked around in a T-shirt and jeans trying to imitate Gabriel Knight for my one other friend who had also played the game. I hope with my selection of images and arrangement of the music, along with my editing skills, I have created a moving tribute not just to the first Gabriel Knight game, but to the company of Sierra Online as a whole as it was back in its "glory days".
There is one problem left, however...
I am at a lack for web server space to host these files... Would anybody on the site be generous enough to donate some web space on which to host these files?
The full running time is 17 1/2 minutes.
The current files sizes for the GK Tribute are:
GK Tribute Score (sound only)
MP3: ~ 20 MEGS
WMA: ~ 8 MEGS
REAL MEDIA 6 MIN EXCERPT (for 56K): ~ 4.5 MEGS
GK Tribute Montage (sound & video)
AVI compressed with latest DivX Codec: ~ 130 MEGS
REAL MEDIA 6 MIN EXCERPT (FOR 56K): ~ 3 MEGS
WMV COMPLETE MONTAGE: ~ 16 MEGS
If anyone would be generous enough to donate web space for my GK Tribute project, I would greatly appreciate it. Or if they can point me to more information on how I can start BitTorrents for these files, that would also be wonderful.
If interested, please contact me at deshrill@hotmail.com. I am on my college's T3 connection, but they put a cap on our bandwidth because they are quite silly about things like that... Still, it should prove OK for the BitTorrent idea, if someone can give me more tech data on it...
