View Full Version : Which adventure game did you replay the most?

Erwin_Br

So, after finishing a certain adventure game, which of them did you play again the most?

I think Sam and Max would be the game I replayed most often. Can't remember how many times, though. I do remember that I replayed Indy FOA three times to see where the different paths would take me.

I also replayed Simon the Sorceror 2 a few times, because the atmosphere was really great.

For me it's a tie between Grim Fandango and The Neverhood which I have both finished three times.
And the rest I have finished twice(I always pick a good game up again after a certain amount of time, to see if I've missed something or just because it's so darn good!).

Phew... difficult... I think DotT with about 5 times... but MI3 with around 4 times comes close... TLJ, MI1, MI2 about 3 times and uh... maybe I've forgotten dozens... :)

Grim Fandango without a doubt. Something like 13 times by now ;) The game managed to surprise me the first 10 times and was just as good the other 3.

LBA of course.

Day of the Tentacle. I used to play it like I was watching my favorite cartoon show. It was like watching Lion King, only funnier and interactive.

Hell guys, all games you mentioned(except foa) have very low replay value. I replayed kyrandia 3 several times, and GK3 to get all the points, though I did not manage to do it. Other game with high replay value is KQ6.

Once every year I try to replay this little set of mine:

Grim Fandango
LBA 1&2
Beneath a Steel Sky (now playing - full talkie version finally!)
Broken Sword II
Prisoner of Ice
Indiana Jones: FoA

And games I bought this/last year and played just once but will definitly replay:

Broken Sword I
Gabriel Knight 1&2
Discworld Noir
Monkey Island I & II
The Longest Journey
Syberia (moments before SII naturally ;)
Shadow of the Comet

I've played Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars through more times than should be considered healthy.

The Poisoned Pawn
09-20-2003, 03:42 AM
I've replayed Under a Killing Moon, The Pandora Directive, and Overseer so many times, I can't even keep count. I would say I've probably played Pandora the most, and I've easily played it 20 times or so, possibly more :) Most of the rest of the adventures I have I have probably played under 3-10 times. That would include Grim Fandango, CMI, EMI, The Longest Journey, and Blade Runner.

Maniac Mansion! I still haven't figured out what can Jeff do to get past purple tenatacle! :(
The 2nd I think it would be tie beetween DOTT and Sam & Max, they were the first PC games I had... :D
The runners up would be:
Monkey Island I, Broken Sword I and II, Larry 6 (I nearly got a perfect socre last time), Larry 7 (I got a perfect game and instead of an extra scene, I see less! Maybe the spanish version is different?), Shadow Of Destiny (you have to replay it several times to get the perfect ending)
:frown: I guess that's it... I don't have that much time to play anymore, I have adventures that I have just tested for a few minutes... ;(

Secret of Monkey Island for maybe about 20 times.

Fully enjoyable every time.

Monkey Island 2 about 7-10 times

Curse of Monkey Island only 3 times at the moment

Escape only once, and I doubt there will never be a second time.

Maybe it's just me but UAKM didn't really seem to have that much reply value to it, although it's definetely a good game. As for me I've played GF many times {errrr....twice} but I've played Spycraft {Curt's ears perk} dozens of times because it can be played completely on a lazy Sunday. Hmmm...maybe I'll give it a quick play today.

Full Throttle is the game I've played the most times all the way through, by far. I play a lot of other games partially through quite often though, probably Grim Fandango most out of those. Randomly enough, I've played Quest For Glory 1 (remake) a rather absurd amount of times.

Hell guys, all games you mentioned(except foa) have very low replay value.

Obviously not...

Also Lost Secret of the Rainforest, Curse of Monkey Island, Fate of Atlantis, GK1 and 2, Full Throttle, and KQ6.

I imagine I've played the two first Monkey Island games through about 15-20 times each over the years, which really only makes it about 1.5 times a year. I know I re-watch movies more than that, so it's not that bad. :shifty: Other frequent games include the other MI games, DOTT, FoA, Grim, the Broken Sword games and the Silent Hill games (even though they aren't strictly adventures).

I'd play FT more often but the action scenes are rather tedious {though there's a code to skip them}. I also blow the dust off Myst, install it, install Quicktime, load it up, pass it in 2 minutes, then uninstall.

Games I play AT LEAST once or twice a year:
Full Throttle
Grim Fandango
Monkey Island 1-3

To a slightly lesser degree:
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
Leisure Suit Larry 7
Day of the Tentacle
Atlantis - The Lost Tales

Well what do you know, these also happen to be my favorite adventures. So predictable. :)

I don't know. Who?

OK seriously though. The more cinematic or "bookish" the game is - which means the more it focuses on story and technics of it's presentation - the better it is and has more replay value (just like great books and movies). This also proves that puzzles are subsidiary element. Yeah sure they are important in their own way, they should support the plot and make it more convincing but still they are only to help convey the story and for interactivity purposes.

2.The Dig. (Although I've only beaten it twice, I must have tried to beat it at least a dozen times)
3.Sam And Max
4.QFG4 (Well it's an adventure/rpg with a story about vampires, I can help but replay it from time to time)

Well apart from TLE (which probably doesn't count because every time feels different); Broken Sword quite a few times (4 I think; alot for me; and I expect at least 1 more before 3 comes out; maybe 2 if scummvm supports it soon after I finish it). Alot of games I've played before I play halfway through and then loose interest (though I still enjoy them because I don't remember the plots that clearly).

An interesting thread here.

I know I played Maniac Mansion for NES a lot -- and I do mean that. I got like 2-3 different endings.

I think SOD takes the cake though. I've found all 5 regular endings. I found all of the extra endings. Yet, I still come back to the game, after probably at least spending 40-50 hours with it and STILL looking for scenes I might've missed, since I'm not at 100%.

So, after finishing a certain adventure game, which of them did you play again the most?

Hmm...well, I've played LSL7 at least 4 times: One to finish, one to get the easter eggs, one to get the "extra" ending, and once to just see how flexible the text parser was for dialogue and verbs. LOVE this game.

Also like to replay Shivers, the atmosphere in the different themed areas of the museum is always fun to get lost in. KQ6 was fun to replay several times, as it has ALL those different variations of the ending. COMI played twice, one on easy and once on difficult mode. Black & White was fun to replay, just to see the major differences in the game from good/evil decisions. May not have been an adventure, but sometimes with the fetching, it sure played like one, lol.

Other games I want to replay (and finish, in some cases, lol) include Post Mortem, Runaway and Dark Fall. Between all the adventure games I play, and all the RPG games I play (Neverwinter Nights, Arcanum, Vampire: TMR, Wizardry 8), it's a wonder that I ever sleep. Or see the outside world.

There IS still an outside world, right? Right?

Monkey Island 1 and 2. 2 more than 1 probably. And they have no competition whatsoever when it comes to replaying the games.

Ah, yes... of course, Police Quest and Leisure Suit Larry (the originals) have been played more than a few times. There are three series I love more than anything else adventure games. That's Police Quest, Leisure Suit Larry and Monkey Island. The ORIGINAL series that is. Although Police Quest III wasn't as good as the other two from Jim Walls, I always feel so sorry for Bonds when his wife gets stabbed.

I've only ever replayed one adventure game and it was Hitchhiker's Guide. It took me almost 20 years to decide to do so and the fact that I had just watched the TV series and read all the books within a month of doing so was my real impetus. There is just too much out there that I have yet to play.

As far as replaying games partially? I have played the original Gabriel Knight halfway through about 5 times and never finished it. I must be the only person in existence who doesn't like that game. I get bored and quit every time... I should force myself to finally finish it. It is rather shameful that I haven't.

I envy you all, Ive never replayed an Adventure, Ive tried several times, but I just cant get into it, unless its been years and I cant remember alot of stuff. Ive just recently been thinking of replaying Shivers 1 and Pandoras Directive, They were games I loved and alot of years have passed since I played them, so I think I can get into them, now I can replay the horror/survival games over and over, probably because I always try to see how much ammo and life I can still have left over when I finish the game. :)

To me it doesn't matter if I still remember stuff like puzzles and plot twists. The reason I'm replaying some of these games is because of nostalgia. I think I wouldn't replay nearly as much adventures when more quality adventure games would be released. Currently good adventure games are rather sparse, as we all know.

you have a point there. But there's always the ones where you can complete the game without having done or seen all the stuff in the game, like most sierra games.
