I'll have to look at this later. Probably won't understand one in twenty words of this demo (I imagine the English demo will be out in a few days, but what the heck), but this is one of the games I'm looking forward to getting.

Just tried it for a bit, very nice. (I understand German, by the way)

There seems to be some problem with the movies not playing correctly for me...maybe a codec problem or something.

Seems somewhat like Tunguska, it looks just as good, if not better.
I laughed a bit when I could pick up like 10 objects on the first screen, but the puzzle seems to make sense seeing the main character is a physicist. I can't seem to mix the chemicals in the right way yet though, I'll try again later.

Also, it's quite odd to hear these characters talking about "the germans" when they're speaking german themselves...

Looks very promising.

Hmm, the game seems to be running pretty slow on my computer. Oh well, I couldn't understand what they were saying anyway.

We hope you guys enjoy the German demo. We’d like to get your feedback on the game, so please tell us what you think about it – go get your German dictionary off the shelf. ;-)

Why can't you release an english version soon?:D

I don't speak German and tend to avoid demo's. I like to play the full game without any 'spoilers'. But, I'm sorely tempted to try this. I resisted the Tunguska demo because I don't have long to wait now.

Wintersun is looking great. dtp_Olli, get your company to get their act together and publish in the UK damn you!!! =D
I'd love to get some of your special editions in English. Us poor Brits are still waiting for Paradise, Scratches and Nibiru *whine*

I tried it yesterday (my german isn't that good though) and it seems quite buggy. It did crash my pc completely once. On top of that, i can't get AA working (i get an error message about opengl at startup).

Haven't had any problems with other adventures (played both fahrenheit and dreamfall at max settings).

Ahtlon 3500+, Radeon X800 256Mb, 1Gb Ram (should be enough for any adventure). Latest directx installed.

Hm, I’ve got an X800 GTO 256 RAM with 1Gb RAM (PIV though) at home, and it runs perfectly smooth there. I reported that issue to our QA.

There will be an English version of the game, but unfortunately I can’t tell you when it will be released. The German version will be out September, 29th.

The game looks good, nice graphix. Haven't encountered any bugs. I like the hero's voiceacting and his sense of humor. (I'm Dutch, but my passive knowledge of German is up to it.)

I'm still stuck at the door, the oldest trick in the world didn't work, that was nice!

PS: Deleted my question about dead ends. I should have used the right mouse button to go back to the previous scene. And I could empty the bottle, I was afraid I might be stuck with soapy water.

Still stuck, though.

Oh boy; how do you know your computer is too old? When adventures start lagging. Really, the cinematics worked except for one tiny part of a second where the game froze, but as soon as the actual game started, the characters just jerked around. Well, good to know before buying it.
What I got out of this short excerpt of playtime, though - and I speak German -, was disappointing: The writing was just a typical product of German writing in most media, AGAIN. A complete lack of authenticity, paired with a bad director of the voice acting, since some lines could have definitely used some other pronunciation to slightly modify the meaning, while the voice acting per se is actually quite good - as usual. Added to this is an a bit over-enthusiastic director, or at least it felt like that, as they change camera angles quite a lot, don't they? I know it is used for this "cinematic feel", and it works, but during the very first cinematic, I found them overused, or rather used to create wrong effects for that special scene (referring to the woman in the restaurant), while it created the right feel of mystery in Russell's office. Anyway, I think the whole direction is a bit too rushed; characters don't get time to show or unfold a personality, but simply deliver their lines, instead of focusing; paired with the mediocricy of the writing, this makes for an unpleasant experience, for me.

Of course, this is just a pile of mistakes (my opinion) that were made during the cinematic and a short part I tried to show patience with the performance of my computer and might not count for the finished product, but I was disappointed by those few minutes already. Maybe I'm simply frustrated with the quality of the writing in general.

But yes, the graphics really did look impressive (although I can't really judge, since my graphic card obviously couldn't even handle the lower settings). Did the hands of the characters really look funny in the cinematics or is that the fault of my piece of junk called computer, too?

Hm... well, my XP computer is over 3 years old and the demo plays flawlessly.

Do you think it's fair to judge the demo by the intro when you haven't played the rest of it? I agree with you, I didn't care much for the intro either. But the intro is forgotten as soon as you start playing...

PS: Yes, the hands were remarkably ugly.

PPS: The way I feel now about the demo, I'm definitely going to buy it.

No, of course not. ;)

But it is the impression I got, anyway. From the demo and a video preview from a German adventure site. And I seriously doubt the writing will change (the thing with the videos didn't bother me that much and can very likely be improved in further cinematics, I don't even doubt that it will.). The problem is that I couldn't find out how the character reacts to his surroundings and how the actual gameplay is, so I can't really comment on that.

Well, I must say, Operation Winter Sonne looks promising (except for the intro). Wonderful grafix complete with shadows. I hardly know anything about the story yet, nothing wrong with the few dialogues I've had, though.

The puzzles were not groundbreaking new, in fact I've seen them all before. They made perfect sense, more sense actually than some puzzles in the Tungkuska demo. But they were not as easy as I thought they would be, for one thing because of the 20+ (!) inventory items. One bottle + lots of ingredients = several concoctions. :D That's great! Not every adventure should be as straightforward as Syberia.

I'm gonna play this one in German. Nice, small captions.

All this is of course IMO, IMO, IMO. ;)

PS: I read you could see all the hotspots by pressing a key, like in Tunguska. Haven't found it.

You have to tick the box "Einsteigermodus" in the option menu first, then all hotspots can be seen by pressing the backspace button.

Fienepien, can you give me a gentle hint?

I've opened the door but it squeaks. I haven't got oil or similar.

There will be an English version of the game...

That's good news, but hopefully the English voiceovers will be English and not American. Authenticity is everything and I think an MI6 agent with an American accent would really put me off. Too many developers don't give enough thought to voice casting imho, or just try to go for the biggest market (US), and it can really spoil a game.

Good luck with the game, Olli. :)
