999 The Novel and Banshee’s Last Cry $0.99 on iOS just for today
This is Japan Adventure Attack!
It seems though that the 999 port on ios removes all puzzles present on the DS. So while I’d qualify 999 as an adventure game, I’m not sure the ios port actually qualifies.
It does say 999 The Novel.
I never thought it was the game because of that…
The truth can’t hurt you, it’s just like the dark: it scares you witless but in time you see things clear and stark. - Elvis Costello
Maybe this time I can be strong, but since I know who I am, I’m probably wrong. Maybe this time I can go far, but thinking about where I’ve been ain’t helping me start. - Michael Kiwanuka
You do still have to make choices though, so I wouldn’t entirely remove it out of the adventure category. I do see how some of us don’t see it as an adventure game though since it’s just text and choices, but that’s for a another topic of discussion
The original DS version was never released in many places so it’s a good chance to try it out (although it’s back to full price as of writing!)

Visual novels are a subcategory of AGs in my book. But I know I have a broad definition, so YMMV.

Well I kind of like visual novels but except in the case of the original 999 which has puzzles, I’m not sure I consider them as AG. Anyway, I was surprised that it wasn’t a full port…
Ok, now back on topic:

A few others warrant mention:
Tesla Effect is $4.99 (75% off) on GOG
—In my opinion, a steal at this price! If you have even the slightest curiosity about this newest Tex Murphy game, you can try the demo on Steam, though the game isn’t currently on sale there. (GOG’s not big on hosting demos due to the bandwidth required.)
Moebius is $9.99 (67% off) on GOG and on Steam
—You can try the free demo on Steam or on the Phoenix Store if you prefer that to using Steam. I enjoyed this game despite its flaws, and if you’re someone who likes Jane Jensen’s or Phoenix Online’s past work but was turned off by the middling reviews, I suggest you at least give the demo a shot if you haven’t already so you can decide for yourself.
Phantasmagoria 1&2, I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, etc. GOG’s weekend promo list is here.

Also, Quest for Infamy is on sale on Desura for $6.99 (65% off).
—I haven’t had a chance to play this—too many games!—but Desura’s sale is cheaper than the current $9.99 sale on Steam. Desura’s client is optional so you can download the game direct and DRM-free. Demo here.
And as there’s a lot going on right now, don’t forget the several adventure games in Steam’s Halloween sale as mentioned by Theo a page back.

Ooh, nice!
Played a friend’s copy for a few hours back in the day, but never really got into the game. Only thing I remember is the controls being clunky…
Maybe it deserves a second chance.
