... or so the people who support the teaching of abstinence from sex in US schools say. It seems our up-until-recently-pure virgin lass - who made lip service to the campaign - is a whore. She admitted to have had sex in some magazine. I mean, she didn't have sex in some magazine, but that is where she spilled her beans.

I don't really care about the impure existence of that little belly-dancing spawn of Satan, what I do care about is the mindlessness of the whole abstinence movement.

I think you're missing the point :) Abstinence works just fine, I'd imagine. It's the teaching of it as the only alternative to jail and or the flames of Hell thats not such a clever idea.

Seems to be a classic case of Conservatism versus Liberalism behind this. On the one side you have the Conservatives wanting abstinence, on the other you have the Liberal idea of have sex but safely.

I agree with the spokesman for the National Campaign to Prevent Teenage Pregnancy in that BBC article; the message should be in between. The message should be abstinence but with full information on contraception in recognition that some/alot of people will have sex anyway.

I don't think the current system is balanced at all; because abstinence was definately kept off the agenda when I was as high school; probably because people think it's purely a religious issue. I'm a little more hard headed about it; sex spreads diseases and causes teenage pregnancy which is a real social problem, abstinence and one monogomous relationship reduce the risk massively.
