Do you guys only watch Blockbuster CG films??

Gone Girl 3/5
Reznor’s Music is really something, reminds me of Silenthill and some Japanese Adv games. Cinematography was typical Fincher, Affleck was likeable but story was nothing you cannot find on Made for TV thrillers.

Borgman 5/5
Change my perspective on life,  excellent execution , absolute must see. One of the best
European movies if not one of the Best movies ever made. Original and artistic.

Tusk 4/5
Justin long can act and it took me a while to realize that it was actually Jhonnydepp.
Funny and twisted.

Equalizer 4/5
Good one as long as you want to suspend your disbelief, not looking for logic and want to have fun. Denzel was great, presentation was good.

I used to watch a lot more movies, now I don’t have time to go to the theatre and I don’t watch them at home.

Also saw Boyhood this week. Probably the best movie I’ve seen this year.

Now that I only go to the cinema less than once a month (instead of twice a week like I used to), yes, big movies with lots of stuff blowing up are actually preferred on the big screen.

And as for watching things at home, gone are the days when I could just watch whatever interested me (which was “practically everything”), so I’m kind of stuck with films the missus wants to see too. And that’s surprisingly little. And annoyingly mainstream.

I’ve gone from watching 500+ films per year to about 40 per year… Meh

I’m already happy I got Boyhood in this year.

For years I lived walking distance to the cinema I have an unlimited card for (ie for a monthly fee I can see unlimited movies free)

I practically lived there and would go see virtually anything. Now I live outside the city I have less time to go to the cinema and tend to just go with friends and theymostly want the blockbuster event.

I am disappointed I have not seen boyhood yet. I’m a fan of his earlier or should that be later work. I jest because he has benn filming boyhood for about 15 years with the same actor as he grew up. I look forward to it coming on TV or Netflix.

An adventure game is nothing more than a good story set with engaging puzzles that fit seamlessly in with the story and the characters, and looks and sounds beautiful.

Boyhood is up on PSN.

Gone girl is 13$ to buy, makes Telltale season price far more reasonable.
Seriously 12 to 15$ for movies is too much.

And yeah i hate the fact that Sports and Movies are just entertainment events now.
Its a show now, nothing else.

I saw Mr. Turner last week (http://m.imdb.com/title/tt2473794/). It was beautifully filmed and the acting was very good but the story was missing. It was more a collection of anecdotes in chronological order. I was disappointed because all the reviews I saw of the movie were very positive.

I saw Mr. Turner last week [...] the acting was very good [...]

Based on everything I’ve seen him in, the acting is ALWAYS superb when Tim Spall is involved. Massive acting talent.

But one good actor does not make a good movie. The other actors were also very good!

Guardians of the Galaxy

A pretty fun movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously. One complaint I do have was the somewhat forced nature of the male and females relationship. It kinda wasn’t needed and perhaps would of been better explored in the sequel when time clearly would of passed and they could of grown closer.

Recently completed: Game of Thrones (decent), Tales from the borderlands (great!), Life is Strange (great!), Stasis (good), Annas Quest (great!); Broken Age (poor)

FoxCatcher 3/5

Saw Nymphomaniac vol 1 and 2.
What a ride, Lars Von Trier pulls no punches… Very interesting, but very very hard to watch at times. Ending was a bit of a letdown.

Saw the last Hobbit, finally. Much better than I feared, maybe even a little better than I expected. Mind you, my expectations probably weren’t very high Wink Entertaining, sure, but oh man - the lost potential… As usual, I yearn for what could’ve been with Del Toro.

Started weak. Dol Guldur was - again - the best part (wish there’d been more - in fact, they missed out on a good war there since I always had the impression that they went there with an army… That would also have needed a much-needed change from the fight at the Mountain). Loved the way they did Sauron, and the Nazgul were brilliant, too. Ending was not what I expected (I thought they’d tie up things more between the Hobbit and LotR).

Overall, enjoyable but nothing special, unfortunately. Too much fighting, as usual - and some of it (also as usual) was just illogical or unnatural or way overdone.
Like, why not just have the sandworms attack from under the dwarves? And how can villagers with no training stand up against battle-bred orcs? And how can anyone, orc or not, burst through ice from water? That’s just ridiculous. I mean, climb out, sure, but actually burst through?
The Dol Guldur part once again showed me how fantastic a Silmarillion movie (or, perhaps, a mini-series since they don’t want to do movies that aren’t action) could be if it were something like the story of Beren and Luthien, with much less action, more in the original spirit of the texts. On occasion Jackson still manages to tap on that magical feeling (but obviously Jackson has to stay true to his word and not do any more Tolkien movies Wink)

Birdman 5/5

Full marks just on technical brilliance and achievement, whole movie is (almost)one shot, amazing camera work, E.Norton and Naomi were intense.
Refreshing and gonna win oscars for sure.
(Deals with a washed out actor who wants to feel significant through Theatre acting after Comic movies dominance in Hollywood, not too different from the topic we discussed in the other thread).
Absolute must for anyone who wants to see how this medium can be explored differently.

Which ver?? Director’s cut is full porn, with Lebouf’s CG dick in action. Grin

Director’s cut. 6-7 hours of Von Trier madness! It’s all fake but it looks so raw and real it’s brutal. The structure and themes are so interesting that despite being so hard to look it’s worth a watch (like most his movies).

Boyhood bored me like anything after 1 hr so i left the cinema hall, however A most violent Year, compensated the evening. Amazing soundtrack, 80s authenticity, locations and the fact that Jessica chastain never disappoints.
Boyhood has good concept, covering 12 yrs of a same boy, but actual story is boring.

Surprisingly Boyhood scored Best movie in GoldenGlobes too.
But again lots of Goldenglobe awards were surprising.
