Okay so my girlfriend is the opposite of what one would usually think of as the "gaming type", but one random day she mentions this game she used to play and LOVED - come to find out it was Kings Quest 7 (never said she had the GREATEST taste in adventure games)
Anyway, I bought it for her and we played the hell out of it and beat it in three nights. So I say, if you like this one, you should play part 6 - its one of the best games I have ever played. Well, she gets one look at the dated graphics and refuses to give it a shot. ARGGHH!!
So I really want to find another game for her to play, but I think she likes the cartoon Disney-esque graphics of KQ7 -though as long as the graphics aren't "dated" she'd give it a try.
I know she won't like the more "guy like" games like Full Throttle (plus those graphics are not really up to par). She also would prefer less conversation and more PUZZLES, but less "slider tile-type" puzzles and more the traditional type. What can I say...she's picky.
WHew, so any ideas?
Shame she doesn't want to try KQ6. It is a great game.
Maybe she'd enjoy Runaway? It has graphics sort of like King's Quest 7's. Or for something a little darker, maybe Still Life?
Also, she might like the Bone games.

She's clearly a superficial person if all she cares about is looks and does not care for conversation. I say dump her. If she asks for a second chance, tell her to be more like fov in her gaming goddess-ness. Demand nothing less than the best. If you ask nicely, Emily might even give your girlfriend a few slaps to knock some common sense into her. Also, it's fun to watch women slap each other.
As far as graphics are, though, I think Full Throttle and King's Quest 6 look way better than King's Quest 7. So what does she know? Nothing, that's what.

I have the exact same problem. My girlfriend loved many an AG that I've made her play or played with her, but she won't approach older games with a ten-foot pole. It's the immersion factor, I guess...
Anyway, games she liked were Syberia, Black Mirror, The Longest Journey, Darkfall, Ni-Bi-Ru, Aura, Dreamfall, The Dig, The Secrets of Da Vinci, Gabriel Knight 2... anything pretty and decent (or is it pretty and recent? ;) ).
I suggest you look into one of these, and forget about games like that are either too hardcore (Schizm, Rhem) or action-y (Fahrenheit), too graphically outdated (Lucas Arts prior to The Dig, typically), too "boyish humour" oriented (Simon the Sorcerer - which, in any cas, is graphically outdated ;) -, Curse of Monkey Island), or too verbose (Broken Sword, Legend games, ...).

I agree, but that only works because we've been playing games for a long while, and thus were on the field when a game like Simon the Sorcerer was considered magnificient.
But for people who are starting gaming these days, the kind of resolution used in older AGs is just from another time, and is understandably dismissed as outdated.

Maybe you all should introduce your girlfriends to those adventure games on the Nintendo DS, and play them together. And since it's on such a small handheld screen, she'd have to sit real close to you, like on your lap, so you can both see. Yeah, romance and stuff might even happen.

How about Curse of Monkey Island? That's pretty Disney-esque, and not all that guy-like.
Then again, as a female who's probably no more feminine than a gay man, I'm not the authority you should be consulting when trying to figure out what constitutes "guy-like" and what constitutes "girl-like".

I'd say the whole pirate/tenage male hero/insult fighting and other mannish activities make it more guy-like than "guy and girl"-like.
At least I know that my girlfriend had no interest in it.

I knew it! Now, I'm going to be sentenced to a lifetime of being barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen as punishment for being so out of touch with my own gender. :\

Of course, I might be the one out of touch with your own gender...
Seriously, though, there obviously isn't a stereotype of the girl-game; it's just that from reading the first post I got the impression that the guy's girlfriend had similar tastes to my own girlfriend.

Torin's Passage used the exact same art style, so it would a good bet. You'd probably have to search around a lot for it.
I would recommend Phoenix Wright, but you say she doesn't want a lot of dialogue. The problem is that puzzle-centric adventure games without Myst-style puzzles are pretty much exclusive to '93 and earlier, and those games won't have the graphics she would want. Day of the Tentacle might work. It's VGA, but the graphics look very good (unlike King's Quest VI, where the people look like pixelated blobs if you aren't used to older games).
Also, she might like the Bone games.
I'd love to see the reaction you get if you ask her to play this one.
How about the Gene Machine? I played it recently, nice cartoony graphics.
Or Stupid Invaders, which I loved. Not everyone does though. Show her some screenshots.

If she likes the graphics style of KQ7 she might also like Space Quest 6. The game is more difficult and certainly no fairy tale (although some people think that Roger is a fairy :P) but she might like the humor and the puzzles.
I would also recommend Monkey Island 3 and Stupid Invaders...

She's clearly queen of the harpies. Step on her head and tear off her wings.
Alternatively, I second the recommendation of The Curse of Monkey Island. The distaste for conversation is problematic, otherwise I'd suggest Broken Sword, The Last Express and The Great Cow Race. All have graphics that are simultaneously (somewhat) modern and attractive. I'd second the Space Quest 6 idea, but thought that may fit into the "guy game" area.

May I suggest Leisure Suit Larry 7. That might blow her mind though. Cartoons that swear, well I never.....

I Have a similar situation with my GF. She is quite resistant to playing older games if the graphics are poor by todays standard. I usually persist and end up persuading her to play anyway, and by the time we have finished the game she invariably loves it.
Syberia seems to be a game that most females like, and it has good graphics so that should be a good choice. Longest journey is another favourite amoung females (at least the ones that i know :)).
Monkey island 3 has great cartoon style graphics, but it is a lot better if you have played the first two. Still probably worth a shot.
Runaway has good cartoony graphics, but the females i know who have played it didnt like it for some reason...
Anyway, i hope you can get her into Adventure games, because it is a great activity to share with your partner, when you have some spare time and want to relax. Good luck

Same stuff here with my girl :)
I recommend CMI, Larry7 and Discworld 2 for good cartoony looks.
FMV games might work too.

True. I'm a girl and I didn't like Runaway even though the graphics were nice. To much pixel hunting, maybe.
I really enjoyed The Longest Journey. I think it may suit your girlfriend's tastes. I also liked Syberia and Monkey Island 3.

I see no mention of Grim Fandango... Manny frowns on you all.
How about Jack Orlando? I should sit down and finish that game some day... Tony Tough and the Night of Roasted Moths also comes to mind, and Discworld Noir might be worth a look, too.

i agree, dump her. she doesn't know what art is. either that, or tie her to something and force her to play the old classics.

My wife absolutely loved Day of the Tentacle. It has graphics simlar to KQ7 and a happy tone that everyone seems to love. They have also created tools to make it easily playable on today's PCs (SCUMM VM). You must play the full-talkie (CD) version though.
I have always loved DOTT since it came out, but when my wife played it and loved it, I knew it was one of those rare games (back when it was new) that girls and guys love. We all seem to have a built in love for the Warner Brother's cartoons tone and style.

Then again, just because one girl likes something doesn't mean all girls will. Unless, of course, all girls are clones of the same person...

Of course, but I can only make recommendations for someone based on what I have personally observed. That is why I referenced my wife. Then I did generalize and say that both girls and guys seem to love DOTT.
We are not clones, thanks for clearing that up. ;) I'll have to remember a more clear disclaimer next time.

I have the opposite problem: I'm female and I'm very fond of adventure games (CMI is my all time favorite). I asked my partner to try some of the adventures I like best, but he's into action and strategy games... :\
And he wants stunning, state-of-the-art graphics...
