During the early-mid nineties, several developers thought it would be a good idea to use audio tracks for sound and music in their games. Luckily, only a few adventure games used them.
I thought it would be a good idea to have a complete list somewhere of all the PC adventure games that fell victim to this idea. The list is important to collectors for two reasons:
1. You can't always tell if a game that you have is supposed to contain audio tracks or not, and, as I felt myself with my KQ6 copy (http://forums.adventuregamers.com/showpost.php?p=264583&postcount=18), some releases of some games didn't contain the audio tracks, which of course made these releases incomplete copies of the games.
2. It is more important to create backups of games that contain audio tracks, since audio tracks are more sensitive to scratches and physical damage (because there's no error correction or something like that). This list will help people know which of their games they should backup due to audio tracks.
Ok, so here are the games that I know about, if someone knows about more such games please add to the list (note: I'm only including games that use the audio tracks in-game, and the audio tracks are not there as a mere bonus; if you add games with bonus audio tracks, please make a note):
King's Quest 6 CD
Monkey Island 1 CD
Loom CD
Noctropolis (could be bonus only, I'm not completely sure yet)
The Big Red Adventure CD
Alien Virus
Zero Critical
I'm focusing on PC games, but I know that Rise of the Dragon and Willy Beamish for Sega CD, and the FM Towns releases of Lucasarts games are important to some collectors, so I thought I'll mention that they too use audio tracks in-game.

Lost in time and The 7th Guest are the only ones I can think of at the moment.

Return to Zork. Though maybe only as a bonus, I'm not sure.
If you do backup these games, be sure to use an extraction method that identifies DAE errors, such as Secure Mode with Exact Audio Copy.
If any audio can't be recovered from the original, a backup is pointless.

It's not that there's no error correction, there's just less of it.
Is it really that big of a deal though, why not just backup all your games?
If any audio can't be recovered from the original, a backup is pointless.
It's not pointless, the condition of the disc could get even worse, and you could replace the damaged track, preferably with a FLAC file, but even with an mp3, if the bitrate's above 192k it shouldn't be noticable.

The second disc of Shivers Two has audio tracks.

For that matter, EVERY Sega CD and Saturn game, adventure or otherwise, has an audio track (it's required by the system).

The Dreamweb has a bonus audio track on the dics. I know not many people have played the game but still... :P

Yeah, but these are only there as a bonus. My copy don't have them but I don't mind that much since they're not being used in-game.

You're sure? AFAIR (I played game few years ago though) one of them was used when Conway performed his song.

Really? I don't think I ever finished the CD version, only the floppy version... can anyone please provide a saved game with which we can verify this? Maybe I need a different copy of the game then... good thing I started the thread :)

All the music in Sam'n Max are contained in the *.MUS game files, the extra tracks are a bonus feature only.
For that matter, all FM-Towns versions of LucasArts games and Kyrandia 1 have CDA tracks as well as the full cd versions of Goblins 1 - 3.

There was an FM-Towns version of Kyrandia 1!? Or did you mean that the regular PC CD version supposed to have audio tracks?

No, there is a FM-Towns version of Kyrandia 1, and yes, it does have audio tracks like all other FM games.

Games like Shivers 2 had Redbook tracks, but they were not part of the game. Sierra family games that used the Audio track for the game include Mixed-up Mother Goose SCI, Jones in the Fast Lane and most of the Coktel Vision CD games.

The Arrival had audio tracks for background ambiance. In fact, if you played on Windows 98 instead of Windows 95, the game would crash unless you disabled the CD audio.
7th Guest had audio tracks, at least on the second disc, but they may have only been a bonus.
The Monkey Madness CD had audio tracks for Monkey Island 1.
I'm pretty sure The Dig used audio tracks.

All of the original three Alone in the Dark games.
Also, Outcast, but it being an adventure game is questionable.

The Dig did NOT make use of CDA tracks, the only LucasArts adventures to make use of multitracks were Loom and MI1. And the very rare FM_Towns versions of MI1, MI2, Loom, Indy & The Last Crusade and Zak McKracken.

The Dig did NOT make use of CDA tracks,
But did it contain them as bonus? Or none at all?

My copy of The Dig doesn't have any CD tracks at all.

None at all, but I believe there was released a separate soundtrack for the dig at some point.

Whether these are "Red Book" or not I have no idea, nor do I specifically remember if music was used throughout the games in most instances.
Burn: Cycle had a seperate music cd and used the cuts in the game.
One or more of the Myst collectors series of games had a soundtrack cd and all used music in-game.
Starship Titanic has a rousing cut at the beginning of the game.
Harvester has a creepy soundtrack at the beginning.
The intro of Gabriell Knight II has music.
Indiana Jones: Search for Atlantis plays the Indy theme.
Peter Gabriel's eve has ingenious clips of songs that you have to assemble.
Return to Zork did use the music in-game and the cuts could be installed seperately from the cd.
Normality has an "annoying tune" in the intro.
The Neverhood uses Leon Redbone tracks throughout.
