Is anyone else psyched about the new Sam & Max?

Here's a link to the website: http://www.lucasarts.com/products/freelancepolice/

Hopefully it won't fall into the traps that caused the travesty that was and is Escape From Monkey Island. : )

Sure, I'm looking forward to S&M2.

But I don't think EMI was that bad. It was in fact quite good. Not as good as the first two parts, but at least better than the third.

I have been avidly awaiting this game for a while now. I'm hoping that since FT2 fell through, LucasArts will be aware of the problems that led to that game's failure and will be more careful with Sam and Max. It's comforting that they're calling it an "adventure" and not an "action/adventure" or something, and despite the obvious challenges in turning cartoon characters into 3d, it looks like they're on the right track.

I'm looking farward to that game, yes. It looks nice and all, but first I gotta get my hands on that demo!

Btw, EMI was bad for the prequels, but good as a loner. ;)

This is just an observation, and probably an obvious one; but have you ever noticed that the longer a game is in development the more likely it will be cancelled? Consequently, the quicker a game is produced, the heavier it's plugged (i.e. the frequency of updates and clips, etc), the more likely it is to see the light of day. Wow, that's so glaringly obvious it hurts. Anway - yes, as to Sam -n- Max, this one is definately one to watch for!

I tend to like games that have spent a long time in development reaching perfection than games that are just thrown together in a short amount of time myself.
Sam & Max 2 looks good, though. Although I'm not a huge fan of the original, this looks promising.

I think it'd be more accurate to say the longer that the public knows a game is in production, yadda yadda. For some reason, secret projects like Half-Life 2 work. Of course, that's most probably because we don't hear about the secret projects that get cancelled, so ignore this post as well.

I just hope its not a FPS... :(

It would be totally crippled by the censors. I mean, with Sam in an FPS, it will be a carnage of blood. :)

Yes. Mayhaps you mean "action game"? The brand is almost completely trademarked by the two main characters, and unless you were the "new guy" partnering up with S&M The Thing-style, well, this is where the end of the sentence would go, but you know what I mean to say, and I don't feel like thinking how to say it.

Btw, EMI was bad for the prequels, but good as a loner. ;)

But how can you get over that hideous Mortal Kombat Ending!?!?!? : ) Not to mention the remarkably uninspired dialogue. That game cheesed me out in the beginning and the end. The middle was palatable and enjoyable.

I've belabored the point on other message boards and I'm tired of listening to myself.... so there's no need to expound the many reasons I was disappointed in it.

I do think CMI was infinitely better. CMI is actually one of my favorite adventure games of all time.

the sam and max 2 trailer was immensely high quality, evoking the likes of monsters inc and shrek as comparable references, as opposed to other games. if they can keep the same outlandish taste in humour and difficulty in puzzles, we're on to a winner.

I'd like to play it, but sadly I don't think it'd run on my computer. I guess if there's any game I'd update my computer for, this would be it.

We have to wait so long.....

Oh, and it scares the shit out of me that there hasn't been any updates on their site for ages now. I hope it's not an omen...

I think future of S&M is looking bright, having Steve Purcell as a supervisor, they can't fail. The game will be finished, i doubt it will be done by spring, but it certainly will be around for xmas 2004. Now will just have to wait and see, how good the game itself will be. We'll have BS3 and Syberia2(and possibly some other 'sleeping' hits) to keep us occupied till then.

I'm pretty sure that the new Sam & Max will be a full-blown adventure - words like "action" and "levels" thankfully stayed out of the press release.

I'm looking forward to a new Lucas Arts adventure, anyway. It's a shame they haven't released any new screenshots after the original two weeks of announcements, that came complete with concept art, screens and a video.

The original game wasn't the best in terms of puzzles, and the control system sucked, but Sam & Max are the greatest. At least this time not as many people will sit around and whinge about how much better the original was. Hopefully.

Although the ending itself for CMI was disappointing I really enjoyed the last chapter preceding it (I will say I love Cutthroat Bill jumping up and down and waving more than anything.) Can't say that for EMI. The endgame was one of the biggest disappointments I've played. I really enjoyed the game, but I can't compare it to the others.

And I can't wait for Sam and Max 2.

Hmm, my real thoughts about EMI are so filled with curses that I won't say them.

In my opinion the only thing good thing in that sorry game was Dominic Armato's voice acting.

If I could I would erase that game from my mind, but it's just not possible.

CMI was a good game, but LeChuck's long story telling was jsut not right, why does every little secret and storyline have to be told.

EMI did it even worse, they created paradoxal storylines, but maybe that's just part of the humor :shifty:

Oh, and sorry for going off topic...

I've got Sam'n Max 2 on top of my waiting list, I have high hopes that it will rock the world.

The trailer was awesome, even that it probaply wasn't done with the game's engine.

Still great for a cutscene.

The original voices are back and the lead creative tem is same as in the original. That's important. Hope the story is as great comedy as the first one was.

IMHO Duke is just witty, not funny, all he does is use one-liners (most of them from Evil Dead) and give money to strippers! :D (He he, now if someone uses Google to do a search on strippers he will be lead here and be very confused!)
Maybe I should have been more specific and said "There is no such thing a COMEDY FPS"

The lack of updates is just because the game is so far off. At ComicCon in July they had some newer screenshots and renders, and it looks better than the stuff up on the site now (ie Max's teeth are round, the inside of his mouth is actually black, Sam's jaw and head don't look like those of an underdeveloped child anymore).

As for it running on old computers, I'm sorry to say that they've actually intentionally gone for a low-end system spec. I mean, I guess that's good since all of us adventure gamers with shity old computers will be able to run it (that was their intent when aiming low), but it's sort of sad that the art might not be as cutting edge because of it.

They're doing some of it stylistically, too though. Like, if you look in the trailer, a lot of the background art in the city set is almost entirely flat. They're going for the 2D for 3D old movie set look with a lot of the locations apparently, and I think it will probably work. They got most everything looking right it seems.

:shifty: Oops didn't notice there was a page 2. Well, I'm mostly replying to page 1, sorry about that. Also, EMI is more or less balls and should be ignored.

Just out of curiosity, where on earth was the Sam and Max 2 panel? It was listed on the schedule as 4pm on whatever day it was (Saturday I believe), but when I went to the room it was listed as at that time on that day, it was some Batman animated movie about Batwoman. I was really disappointed I didn't get to go to Stemmle's thing.

Yeah. Especially considering the loads of surface simplification tools out there to help them develop several different levels of geometric detail automatically.

Duke Nukem 3D was really great and funny. That game rocks. 8-)

I hope that Sam and Max 2 will be good (suprise suprise). It looks promising from the trailer, the two screenshoots and the artwork that has been released. :shifty: Although that means in other words that there isn't much to go on at all at this point. But as I said, I will keep my fingers crossed. :9~

I went to the room it was listed in at the time it was listed at and they were in there. The panel was actually really bad. There was a great lineup of people (in addition to Purcell and Stemmle they had the art director to the original Earthworm Jim as well as an artist from Spumco), but the moderator didnt know what he was doing so almost nothing interesting happened beyond the display of new Sam & Max 2 artwork and a couple pages from Purcell's childhood sketchbook, containing really roughly drawn disproportionate Sam & Maxes getting each others names wrong.

Also everyone in attendence laughed way a lot at the trailer.

Ever heard of Serious Sam? It is a pretty unpretentious parody of FPS genre.

As for the Sam&Max: Freelance Police I vote 3xYES! Are there any new screenshots on the web yet?

Probably still more exciting that the Batman thing I went to

I can't figure out what my friend and I must have done wrong, then. We checked the room number and time multiple times, then finally just decided that they must have cancelled it or something. Ah well. It's good to hear that the trailer got a positive audience reaction, though.

No specific ones who laugh real hard at you.

I think NOLF 1 was very funny. Serious Sam in places also.

I am still laughing at the visual of Sam and Max FPS. My guess is Max would be one stone killer. I can't wait for the new game. Since Full Throttle 2 went kerplunk - that freed up money for S & M and they moved the date up from Fall/winter to late Spring. As long as Max is still massively rude - I will be happy. :)
