Just to let you know ive just picked up the UK magazine Gamesmaster and there is a full page preview of Broken Sword - Angel of Death. It shown all the screenshots we have already seen, but interestingly the guy who did the write up sounds extremely excited about the game - and had played through some sections. He says the graphics and controls are a massive improvement (it seems to be similar in gameplay to Discworld Noir (3d point and click).
Also, the preview confirmed that the box puzzles WILL be back - although "much improved".

i can live with one (maybe two) box puzzels, but more than that is just rediculous.

D'oh even more uninventive puzzles! Oh well, I'll probably end up buying the game regardless of how good or bad it is :P

With regards to box puzzles, how many games even use resort to them anymore? Even in the action adventure genre, where you used to see an endless amount of box puzzles, things have moved on significantly. If you look at the new Tomb Raider demo there is a box puzzle in it, but it's very different from those you got in the original Tomb Raider or even in BS3 a couple of years ago. Nowhere near as slow as cumbersome.
Anyway my point is if there has to be box puzzles , they'd better be the best, most original god damn box puzzles we have ever seen and not just some throw back to a by-gone era, otherwise it's inexcusable.

Maybe a new marketing strategy is being tried where they try to underhype the game so that the fans will be so hugely impressed when the game comes out that they create a giant wave of word of mouth sales, instead of being disappointed as seems inevitable with a new game in a series like this.

BS3 was so disappointing given the huge number of stupid box puzzels. Are Revolution so creatively inept that they can't even design some decent puzzles? Or in 3D all they can think of are the boxes? If they could only come up with most of the crate puzzles again in BS4, then frankly they should stop making adventure games, at least not in 3D.

2 things i hated about BS3 the boxes and the end it took me an hour to do that last puzzle (yes i will ruin it for everyone) with the dragon (not that u could of guessed there was a dragon). i am looking forward to 4 coz i want to see gorgie and nico finally make it s a couple.

Okay I have to ask you guys, assuming you finished the third- is it really good? is the story good, is the character interacting good, are there good puzzles, is it worth my time trying to install it again and hope that ALL THOSE BUGS, wont ruin the experience totally and get me stuck somewhere without the possibility of starting over because THE SAME BUGS keep occuring?
I mean, do you think it's worth it?

If you are not irritated by every second puzzle that involves 'Move crates in x,y, and z dimensions and get the hell out of this place' then it is a fine game.

Actually, "box" puzzles are used about four times or more just in playable demo of Tomb Raider Legend. So I wouldn't exactly call them extinct just yet.
And there's a whole lot of different kinds of box puzzles. You can even have box puzzles that doesn't involve any moving.

Yes that's true now that you mention it, but they're not exactly excessive (usually like push a single block onto an object or something) and they definitely benefit from being physics based, which chances are the ones in BS4 will not be. My main point was that box puzzles that have you spending a lot of time pushing around loads of boxes around, such as the one at the end of BS3, just won't cut it anymore.

I don't think they cut it in BS3 either. Big box puzzles started getting boring a couple of months after the release of Sokoban. :Z

I recently finished Prince of Persia : The Two Thrones, and can't remember much of the box puzzles, because designers were clever enough to use the environemnt and vary the gameply to create other interesting puzzles. On the other hand, box puzzles are easiest to put in, if designer can't think of anything, then, 'hey! just fill the damn room with boxes', and then repeat. How clever!

My thoughts exactly. The easy way out- "lets' BOX it!"

I think I'm going to order a boxed copy. Which will apparently include a walkthrough out of the box. Hahahahhh (okay, I'm cheap). :shifty:

1 or 2 box puzzles would have been great in BS3, just enough. It wasnt DOING the puzzles that was annoying, just the fact that there were so many.
Gonna be interesting to see how they have 'improved' them though.
One more thing - the preview states that the release of the game is 'August'

I never had any problems with the game, and I played it twice. I don't think there's a patch out (can't find it on Revolution's website in any case) but here's what little technical advise there is on the website:
The game will not start? Here are some things to try.
XP
Reduce audio hardware acceleration. To do this clickon on Start -> Run -> type dxdiag -> Sound -> Move the 'Hardware Sound Acceleration Level' slider down to 'Basic acceleration'. This is resolving the majority of XP startup problems.
- Try running the safe version of the game, it is found in the game folder.
- If you are using any refresh rate fixing programs like nvRefreshTool then disable these before running the game
Win98/ME
- Try running the game in a different resolution. 800 * 600 is a good one to try.
- Set the refresh rate to 60Hz. Open the control panel, Click on display, settings, advanced, moniter, and set it to 60HZ.
The game crashes when I try and save the game?
It is possible that the saves directory has not been created. Make sure the directory C:\Program Files\THQ\Broken Sword - The Sleeping Dragon\Saves exists.
The music is not playing properly?
Run dxdiag, go to the sound tab and reducing the soundcard hardware support. Try reducing it one step at first, but you may have to reduce it to zero.
The PC version crashes unexpectedly?
If you do not have directx 9 try installing it.
PC: I get no speech in the game.
Open up the Control panel, select Sounds and Audio Devices, then select the audio tab. Where it says "sound playback" click advanced, then in the "Speaker Setup" field choose "5.1 surround speakers".
Wingman action pad doesn't work
To use this with the game you have to manually configure the pad using the pad configuration control panel
I can only cycle through two wine bottles in the catacombs
Try walking away utill the camera changes then walk back
When you finish the game if you save the game and immediately reload it the game hangs.
This is one that slipped through the net. The save game has been correctly made so the player will need to reboot and reload to start the game again.

It won't start for me, no matter what. And yes, I've tried everything suggested. I even thought it's a copy protection issue so I got the pirated version, but it's all the same. Once in a blue moon it starts, but as soon as I exit everything returns back to "normal".

I don't want to second guess your attempts, but are you absolutely sure? If you could give a little more info then *perhaps* we could fix it, i.e. does the installer or the game itself give you trouble etc.? You said it has started on occasion, so there must be a way to fix it :)

they cant have broken sword without nico its like simon without the swampling it doesnt work plus nico's the sarcastic one. as for boxes well i like the odd one but just not one every 10 minutes. I vote anyone with Xboxes and ps2s buy it for them as theres no bugs as far as i saw and its alot easier.
