Van is a preposition(Dos in Portuguese) by the way, not a second name.
Van Persie is his full last name. The only other way you could write his last name is ‘v. Persie’.
The same way no one would ever say Wiel when referring to Van der Wiel.

Alright, thanks for the explanation. Although we do have “dos e “da” we rarely use the preposition when saying the shortened names.
