I downloaded the HD/DVD Installer from Hendroz and it was working alright until I tried to leave Ubergrau's office.
I got the message :
"VMD error 1 - > IMD_ptr NULL ..\vmd.cpp(495)"
Any idea what that means or how I can fix it?
I'm on Windows XP (if that makes a difference)
Welcome to the forum. :)
That error doesn't sound good. I don't know if it's related to the DVD installer or not, but Hendroz posts here, so hopefully he'll see your question. (I'll send him an email to be sure.)

He does? I wanted to get a dos version of the dvd installer.....if you read this hendroz, I don't suppose its possible?
mchelle, would it be possible for you to check this on another computer? That will narrow down whether it's a problem with the disk or not.
Another thing to try would be backing up your saves, and then uninstall the game and reinstall it WITHOUT the patch. Then try this point again. That way we'll know if it's due to the patch or not.

Yeah, I was going to try loading it on another computer. (don't know when I'll get to it though :\ )
I ended up loading the game up the regular way again. >.>
I was impatient. :D
So the problem is no longer crucial. But I will try it again soon.
So - when you load it the regular way (I assume you mean without the DVD patch), you don't get the error message? Interesting.
Glad you were able to get around it. Enjoy the game... it's one of my favorites. :)

Too many people write it off because it is FMV based, but they are really missing out. Its my fav GK game of the three. :D

I played the first one a long time ago, and only just got this game a little while ago. XD
I just ordered the third one too...should be here right after I finish GK2. >D

The third one requires you to be a little patient with the game's camera. Other than that its a great game. :)

Oh, don't take that the wrong way! ;)
What I meant was that you have to get used to moving the free camera using the keyboard w/ the mouse to do things. Personally it only took me a few seconds, but it may not be so intuitive to some people.
If you ask me, I would have prefered a static camera with a pre-rendered background. The realtime 3d adds nothing to the game, and even makes one point difficult because things aren't seen from certain angles.
It's just a very different kind of navigation than in the other GK games. You'll get used to it. :)
