Heya, I'm playing Space Quest IV in Dosbox, and I'd like to play it without the cd for audio. I read Avatar_58's thread here (http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=9788&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=), but I haven't gotten it to work yet.

I copied the 161mb RESOURCE.AUD file from the cd, which is the only recourse file not installed. To get this to work you're supposed to change your recourse.cfg file, and this is probably where I'm messing up.

I put the file in the game directory, which is "D:\DOS Games\SQ4", so I changed the audio line to this, but still the cd audio won't play. Does patchdir matter? Also, for directory is says "\SIERRA\SQ4", since it installs like that. I moved SQ4 to Dos Games, so should I change this to "\Dos Games\SQ4" or will that mess things up?

Also, a general question I have for these games. Is it better to run the exe file , either Sierra.exe or scidhuv.exe, or the .bat files like sq4.bat? I read that using the sierra.exe can cause a couple errors in SQ4, don't know if thats true though. Thanks.

<:EDIT:>

A reply on that linked thread made me realize my mistake. I changed the audio location to "Dos Games\SQ4", but since I mount D: as "D:\Dos Games\" in Dosbox, the config should have read "D:\Sq4". Now the audio works perfectly. ^_^

So I'll use this thread to ask another question to Dosbox users. What number do you put cycles to when you play this game? 3000? 6000? I have a 2ghz P4 is that helps.

And do you play with sierra.exe or sq4.bat? With the NewRisingSun patch of course.

Whichever works. :D

I usually use the .bat file.

Remember though whatever you mount as C: is where it starts, if you mount "c:\dos" as "c:\" then the cfg won't see anything below c:\dos. So the config should read "\sierra\sq4" instead of "\dos\sierra\sq4".

Also you need to copy over the other files I mentioned, not just the resource.aud. If the game has a 'patchdir' that means there are other files on the cd it needs.
