setup.exe
There are some instructions for running KQ6 Windows version in XP here (http://forums.adventuregamers.com/showthread.php?t=9352). I've never tried it, myself, but it seems to have worked for others.
Failing that, the DOS version runs in XP with pretty much no effort. I had to use VDMSound (http://sourceforge.net/projects/vdmsound/) to get the music working, but otherwise it ran fine.

umm those instructions were too complicated and im not edsactly a computer genius anything else i can do to run this?
Forget the Windows version, then. Just install the DOS version (using install.exe).

i got an error message saying" C:\SIERRA\KQ6CD.scr is not a valid Win32 application
Is this a standalone version of KQ6 (on disks or a CD), or did it come with one of the collections?

Its just Kings Quest 6
one disc
Okay, at what point do you get that message? Please tell me exactly what you've done so far so I can try to duplicate the problem.
I have the CD version and all I had to do was double click "install.exe" and then follow the instructions on my screen to select where I wanted to install it, etc.

ok well it turns out i wasnt clicking install.exe and i can play the game fine sorry for using your time.
No problem! I'm glad you got it figured out. Enjoy the game. :)
(You might still want to use VDMSound (http://sourceforge.net/projects/vdmsound/) if you notice any trouble with the music.)

I am currently trying run KQ V on my windows xp and its telling me that it doesnt recognise the driver. Its the cd rom version that was run in windows 3.1 or something. What can I do to get this working?
Welcome to the forum. :)
It doesn't recognize which driver? If it's a message about the display driver, set the computer to 256 colors and 640x480 resolution before you launch the game. You can do this with compatibility mode but it often doesn't work with Sierra games, so it's better to set it manually. To do so:
-Right click desktop
-Select Properties
-Go to Settings tab
-Click Advanced
-Go to Adapter tab
-Click List All Modes
-Select 256 colors and 640x480 resolution from the list
When you launch the game, you shouldn't get that error anymore. When you're done playing, you can set your resolution and color depth to what you had before by using the slider on the Settings tab.
If it's not the display driver that's the issue, please let us know exactly what the error message says.
