I did play through the German version (having no idea what was going on), so I'll give this a quick playthrough too.

OK, a Dreamfall trailer, a Paradise trailer, and now a Keepsake demo. Is today the world day of adventure gaming or something? :D

Without wanting to annoy anyone, I just want to know whether or not the demo features Starforce?

No Starforce in this demo as it seems to cause people problems.

Thanks Ben. :) I never got the German demo working (which is just as well, because I don't know German!) so I look forward to giving this version a try.

How about the full game? Do you know yet if the English releases will have Starforce?

Is it official that the North American release is moved to April? I know I saw it on Amazon that it changed, but I don't know whether or not they really know about those things for certain.

I wouldn't have reported it if it weren't official. :P

Thx Ben :) Well now that demo doesn't have starforce it seems unlikely the full version will (yay! :)). I read somewhere that it makes cracking the protection that much easier since they have a reference to work from (the demo), so what'd be the point for them to feature SF? I hope the Euro English versions won't feature SF either - else I'll just get the NA release shipped.

I don't mean to turn this into an SF thread, just thinking out loud.

No problem. It's a question that's on a lot of people's minds. :)

Just to clarify, though, the demo that's been released IS the European version. ;)

But Dasilvsie, that's not like me, is it? ;)

Just to clarify, though, the demo that's been released IS the European version. ;) Well in that case no SF for us Europeans! Yay! :)

I thought the demo was cute, though I do think it's not entirely my cup of tea. Also, I found the interface a bit clumsy, especially the inventory. And was it just me, or did she walk in some places and run in others? (I'm used to click > walk, double click > run). The minotaur puzzle was good though, took me atleast ten minutes to get it right, though I did use the first hint available.

:pan:
:)
me

There were numerous errors in spelling though (most notably "I don't want to use a spell to make things worst for you" was pretty funny, considering worst means sausage in Dutch :P). The voice acting was okay..-ish, I found Zak's voice a bit annoying, even though it reminded me of Crow's voice in TLJ. Also, the "Latin" spell in the notebook for growing a tree made no sense to me at all, though that could perhaps just me my Latin. And I had a bit of trouble with the pathfinding. But enough bitching about trivialities, I think it'll be a pretty good game, even though, as I said, it may not be my cup of tea.

TAC sent out a press release today stating that one of the reasons for the delay is that they are doing new voiceovers for the North American release. I can't remember that ever happening for a North American release of a game that was being released in the UK at the same time. (In fact, I can't think of ANY game that has two English versions with different voice acting.)

The demo was actually kind of fun and the game is definitely my type of AG game. I am glad they are altering the VO becuase that was some of the worst voice acting I have heard in some time. Sounded like Wicked got somebody's 13 year olds to do the work cheap. Especially in the flashback I actually cringed when they talked about being friend's forever.

I did enjoy the Minotaur and Goblin puzzle and I also liked the spell puzzle. Any AG game where I can come across the solutions through exploration, trial and error and not use hints, is a good AG for me.

This time they don't have to change it. It's already a one-word title! :D

But I wouldn't be surprised if it turned into KEEPSAKE: Generic Subtitle Goes Here.

I finally was able to dl the demo, but it was a painful experience. The old nemesis casalemedia.com has loaded the site with pop-ups, pop-unders, pop-everywhere. And my spyware app simply would not let me enter it. Finally had to temporarily disable it to get through, then enable and run it to make sure the download didn't bring anything with it. What should have been a 15-minute transaction ended up taking close to an hour.

She walks if it`s a short distance, and runs if it`s far.

What spell puzzle? I finished the demo, and I didn`t encounter a spell puzzle.

Agreed. Zak especially makes a lot of bizarre outbursts in a totally inappropriate tone, it's very jarring. Lydia's voice is rather irritating too, espeically when she yelled "No, no, no! Why did it have to break!" like a five year old.

The spell puzzle being where you have to use the spell to cause the plant to grow. The light switches one.

That's odd, I never got to complete that puzzle (perhaps because I explored the "haunted" basement before completing it, triggering the end of the demo).
Got the seed from the minotaur puzzle, got the notebook but never actually grew the plant.

So I downloaded and "completed" (I don't think I did everything) the demo.

I'm not extremely impressed, but it's pretty and charming enough that I will buy it anyway. Now I just have to wait.

I was disappointed. Didn't grab me. Gorgeous graphics, certainly. A bit "dead" though. Lovely surface, nothing underneath. And I don't mean because there are no people. Dialogues not terribly good, which I'd expected after watching the trailer. Voiceacting rotten. Puzzles... don't know, didn't like the spell much.

I feel like apologizing... but the truth is I can't get excited about the new adventures anymore. Maybe I've played too many, I probably need a break.

I too was disappointed. Voice acting and dialogue are terrible. Puzzles aren't really my type. Views, camera angles, and environment weren't very appealing to me.

Seemed pretty boring and I had no incentive to finish the demo.

Same here. About Keepsake, that is, because I can (rarely) get excited about new games, mostly sequels (for example, I'm thrilled about the supposedly upcoming Simon the Sorcerer 4).

I dunno, I enjoyed the demo and will likely get the final product, but am unsure how to describe the game. it definitely seems like a reto-experience, not necessarily, well not at all an evolution for the genre. For me, I am okay with that, but it will disappoint others.

The voice acting is terrible, but the game is pretty fun besides that. It certainly looks beautiful and the puzzles I encountered were challenging, but not too mind-blowing. I'll get it if its under $30 (USD).

I agree. From the annoying squeal of the guide who walks you through the controls, to the uninteresting, unfeeling, childish reading of the dialog by the two main characters, it was a huge turn off. And that's what I did - turned it off. I eventually went back and finished it, but I will wait and see what the OTHER english language versions sounds like before making a buying decision.

Other than the terrible voice acting, the game looks well put together and seems to have an interesting story. We'll see.

The plan is still to update the acting n'est pas? The problem is that someone thought the voice acting on the demo was good enough. If that same person/people is in charge of new voices, is there any assurance it will be better? Different, perhaps, but better?

Melanie68

I haven't played all of it. Lydia I can get used to. The wolf sounds a bit like a surfer dude to me and it doesn't fit what you expect of the character. I guess I would think English accent, deep voice - something like that. The setting of the game is fabulous. I like the castle.

I also like the tutorial at the beginning and while I haven't had a chance to use it, the ingame hint system sounds like a great idea.

Jackal

I agree the voice acting is poor (and said as much in the preview), but people are making too much of it as a concern. It's not a dialogue-intensive game, and only a few fringe characters are really horrible. The others aren't great, but not so bad that they really impact the game that negatively overall. Certainly TAC's version will benefit from an improvement in that area, but I wouldn't avoid the UK version just because of the voices.

I played the french demo yesterday, to hear the french voices and try to find some additional puzzles.

Well, the narrator's voice is really ridiculous, the "magnifico"'s voice is not as annoying as the english one (:r ), and Lydia's and Zak's voices are ok. It made a better impression on me than the english demo.

The game has beautiful scenarios, but the 3D characters design and animation are very poor, even with grotesque body proportions.

But the game is nice to play, with lots of fun.

And why oh why does this game not have lip animations? It makes the game that much more lively, regardless of its other flaws.

I just played it for about 30 minutes. The guy in the beginning was a little obnoxious due to...well... "heck I know how to play an adventure game, stop teaching me!", but once I got past him and into the school, I really like the design and layout of the controls. I can't wait for the full game to be in my grubby little hands.

In too many places of the demo the voices just disappear, while the ambience sounds were still buzzing well. On the replay, though, different lines went off, while some of those missed the first time around came on. Did anybody experience that?

i liked the demo. but the voice acting mas just horrible. the flashback sequence sounded like a 10 years old kid learning english in class. one thing that hooks me up on games is the dialogues and the nice voices... i read here that they were going to change the voice acting... is it true ?
