It's been a long time since I have tried playing them on XP. I keep my old computer around just for the purpose of playing those games. :)

But, if I remember correctly, what I had to do to get them to work in XP was create a boot cd. The boot cd has to have your video, sound, cd, and mouse drivers on it. You then have to make sure in your bios settings that your computer is set to 'boot from cd.' It may automatically be like that. If you are able to get the cd to boot when you start your computer, you can then play the games from the dos setting. Once I got that all working, both UAKM and PD played perfectly.

Yes, it is a lot of work. :frusty:

As far as I know though it is the only way to get them to work.

As far as I know though it is the only way to get them to work.It is... I've tried in vain to get the Tex games to run on XP. The DOS boot disk is the closest I ever got, though it never worked 100%. The best option is to have a dual boot with Win9x or ME (if you wasted your money on ME, that is :)). I've got a Win98/XP dual boot setup on my computer for the Tex games.

I'm not sure but it worked for Broken Sword. Try this:

Go to the directory where you installed the game. Choose the exe file which launches the game. Right click and select Properties. Select Compatibility Tab. Select Windows 95 or 98 as Compatibility Mode. Then try to launch it again...

Good Luck!

Good Luck! The compatibility option unfortunately doesn't work with UAKM or Pandora. It will help you get Overseer installed however. Just follow those instructions on the setup program on the CD/DVD.

Unforunately, many people have Overseer crash in Gideon's gallery under WinXP and 2K. It happens with me.

Does Tex come with a "make boot disk/CD" option, or is that something you have to do, yourself?

You have to do it yourself. :frusty:

You have to do it yourself. :frusty:Well there are programs included with Pandora and UAKM to make them, but I've never got them to work properly. I just used a Win98 boot disk and modified it :)

But that is only for a 3.5 disc, isn't it? You need to make a boot disc on a CD to get UAKM and Pandora to work for XP.

But CDs probably would be the easiest for most people, true. But those games are a pain to get to run in DOS even still. With my boot disks I had sounds issues that I just couldn't get around. For now I think I'll keep my dual boot :)

...Interesting... If I have a chance, I'm going to see what I can do about getting this working within the next day or two... I'll let you know how it goes.

I tried this method of getting Pandora to work on XP last night, and everything was fine, except the sound was a bit messed up. I'm going to try in on another computer within the next few days and see how it goes.

Me again!

I tried this method for getting Pandora to run on XP on another computer, and it worked perfectly, except that there were random freezeups during the game, and whenever something happens in Windows the game crashes... Still some issues to work out, it would seem.

Glad to see that you fix your problem, happy adventuring on Chandler Avenue!I didn't, though. The game randomly freezes and crashes to the desktop...

Oh, well. I've still got my dual boot with Win98.

I was just playing Overseer and it crashed for me at Gideon's gallery, too. I looked around a bit and found a solution from another forum that worked:

Overseer Gideons Gallery Crash Fix on XP
Jon (11/19/03 06:36)

Ive been running Overseer on Windows XP and recently ran into a glitch that causes it to crash when trying to cross Gideons Gallery. Well, I went looking around and saw nothing that could fix it, so I tried to do it myself and found out that if you go into the game options and mute the MIDI section. Viola, the problem is solved. Then, once youve crossed over to the center, you can switch the MIDI sounds back on. Or you can leave it off and never see those Windows XP messages again.

Just thought that I'd post this for those that are having problems.

The best option is to have a dual boot with Win9x or ME

That'd be great if win98 and ME was compatible with all the latest hardware, but often this is not the case. I'm with Remixor in saying DOSbox would probably be a good bet.
