I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered the "software bug" in QFG1 EGA which bites you and injects you with venom in Yorick's room. This happens to me every time I try to enter Elsa's office. Does anyone have a solution?

I've never encountered this. This may be caused by the game not working properly on a modern computer. How are you playing it? DOSBox might help, if you're not using it already.

It's also possible your savegame got corrupted for some reason. You should try replaying from an earlier savegame (I hope you at least have one from just before entering the fortress).

Oh, and you really should mention the name of the game in the title of the thread. That may draw more attention to it. :)

I don't think it's a modern PC problem as I haven't encountered any other problems. I'm not running DOSBox and I seem to recall that this happened the first time I played the game, although I can't remember what I did to get past it.

The software bug is very rare, and can happen anywhere in the game. I once encountered it when I left the Thieves' Guild, I believe this was on my old Pentium 166. I agree with Kurufinwe, try to replay from an earlier savegame. If that doesn't work, experiment a bit with temporarily changing the game's settings. In the installation menu you could try, for example, to switch to black and white or to turn off the music. This solved a similar bug in QFG3 for me once.

If you still can't get the game to work after all of this, send me your saved games and I'll try to figure something out. (If you and I have the same version of the game, that is...)

Good luck!

I'm not familiar with this (I only played the VGA remake), but could it be speed related? If so, you might want to try MoSlo or Turbo to get past it. Playing from a different save might help, or leaving the room and coming back in.
