I can't get Herman to retrieve his memory in MI 4

Logically when I met Herman I talked to him and consumed every sentence with him.
Now when I hit him with all items he just shout where and guybrush says something means he's not making any progress with Herman.
How can I get herman to retrive his memorty back?

You must hit him with a very specific item. Find out what's the last thing he does remember - that should give you a clue. You will have to repeat the procedure several times (three, I think), each time inquiring Herman about his last memory (to figure out which object to throw now) first.
