well, according to IGN, max payne on the xbox was an adventure game! :)

I have seen games like Vice City classified as adventure. I think Gamespot actually did this as well.

They don't have the knowledge of what's what anymore.
I've also seen some put "The Sims" as adventure :P

meh. genre is shorthand for cliche. if a game cant be put into one of the more popular catagories its called adventure. witness xbox magazine calling shemnue II an adventure, or morrowind. adventure is suprisingly all encompassing, ie anything with a story.

He means that the present state of the genre is such that there aren't enough actual "adventure games" to fill entire sections of sites such as IGN, Gamespot, etc., so situations like this occur. At least, I think that's what he meant (and I agree with it). As fond as we are of naming the five or so big adventures coming out in the next half a year, it really is a pretty under-saturated genre.
