I think it's a little "pale", but I just can't get over how beautiful that woman is.

Lighthouse have also confirmed that the game will ship in a cardboard box ("nice big box, just as in the old days.").

Yeah, it's nice art, though the white is boring.

"nice big box, just as in the old days."

I wouldn't count on that. In fact, I hope they don't even try. Good luck getting those onto store shelves nowadays.

It doesn't look bad, but it isn't screaming "BUY ME RIGHT NOW!" at me...

wow, it is somewhat breathtaking.

And for Europe? If they do that, i will buy the game just for the box. :P

I concur with Pleto here. They better be releasing it in big box in Europe as well, or ELSE!

Yes, it is Europe they're talking about - they don't have the US publishing rights.

I hope they're not compensating for something with that big box :D ;)

Well, that PC CD-ROM logo sure doesn't look like it's made for a cardboard box, at least not the kind we used to have here before the DVD cases.

I don't know if I like those old, big boxes. These day's they're bigger than necessary. Unless they include a good sized manual, they should stick with those new smaller boxes.

I'm assuming when they say cardboard box, they mean the boxes used now in the U.S. (which are much smaller than the boxes that used to be used). The smaller cardboard boxes have been around for quite a few years now. I doubt any company would release the old-style boxes since it would be awkward when trying to fit them on store shelves.

Regarding the cardboard box, AFAIK they haven't said anything official about it so their plans might be changed. What I quoted was something they said on their official forums (when asked). Also, they said the upcoming german release would get a "luxurious 'flap' box".

I think the proportions of the image suggests a smaller box (with a cover roughly the size of a DVD cover, maybe something more like the Syberia box in Europe. But they did say "big". I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Because the box art looks like Syberia and the game has an animal sidekick just like Syberia II. That's why, and you've been told. :D

Thanks for saving me the trouble, Cobra. :)

It's been such a long time since we had a fantasy-based adventure. I'm getting so sick of conspiracy games and sci-fi games. Even TLJ only took place partly in the fantasy world. So that's why I personally am looking forward to it -- the world looks gorgeous and unique, I'm intrigued by the story, and in general the game just looks different and like a nice change of pace.

As for the box... I was hoping for something a little more gothic, maybe that had the castle as a backdrop (rather than just in the background)... I agree the white is rather sparse... but the closeup of Lydia and the doll is eye-catching.

It looks like Feb 2006 in the UK (http://www.adventuregamers.com/gameinfo.php?id=442) and Nov 2006 in Germany. I don't know about the US.

I'm not sure of the details, but I think it's being published by Micro Application in France. According to this Gamekult post (http://www.gamekult.com/tout/forum/lire_344923.html) it's scheduled for the beginning of next year.

Thats what makes this stand out? Look at your computer store, look at all the games, the box art is soo busy with loads of stuff, sometimes the most simple designs stand out more. Take a look at Indiana Jones and the infernal machine artwork for exmaple:

Compare it to Kotor:

Why should I be excited about this game? Do tell.
Aside from being charming and fable fantasy setting, another thing that makes me look forward to it is that it takes (or seems to take) the best of both worlds: a fleshed out protagonist and interesting story from third person adventures and sense of isolated exploration and puzzling from first person ones. If it succeeds at both, it'll be a jab at those who believe one of the perspectives is superior by default - an opinion which is a pet peeve of mine.

EDIT: Oh, and the box is elegant. Refreshingly not cluttered with images. Although the background should've been green, for instance. :)

Beautiful (I like the expression the character has) but the background needs color..something or some stuff. Something epic and uplifting like this to go on that big box:

Now, you see, as much as I like The Longest Journey I absolutely hate all the box art that I've ever seen for it. April just looks weird whether you're looking at the US or European versions, and the whole cover is cluttered looking.

True, but European box-cover April at least looks like the one from cutscenes, where she's indeed a bit weird looking, where US one looks more like April we'll see in Dreamfall.

You are right, the Europe April had that "i had my face stretched", while the US box (lovely box by the way) is clearly how they thought April from the start; I think it was actually said somewhere, by Ragnar(?).

As for Keepsake, the UK release, meaning Europe release, right? :D

Actually, I prefer European cover to both US and UK ones. April looks pretty much the same on European and UK covers, but the picture composition in UK version is kind of boring. And like VoodooFX said, April doesn't really look like herself in the US version.

I don't know what the people that design covers find in fade into white effects...

I agree, the white is a bit too much. It would also be better if they strengthened the colours of her a bit, so that there's more contrast. That way it would catch your eye a bit more.

Spitfire, you gave a very good example. Not only are our eyes instantly drawn to light colours (that's why you hide in the dark, and especially why people in a forest can hide in the trees without getting spotted in between the branches. Unless you consciously focus on the dark spaces between the leaves, your eyes are inevitably looking at the light areas).

Thats what makes this stand out? Look at your computer store, look at all the games, the box art is soo busy with loads of stuff, sometimes the most simple designs stand out more. Take a look at Indiana Jones and the infernal machine artwork for exmaple:

The Indy box is perfect. While very simple, you will instantly notice it. The centered composition is not revolutionary, but that's not the point. The white all around and the dark silhoutte of Indy create a very interesting contrast.

I have often searched for Adventure games by simply walking past the shelves and looking. This is because I did not used to have glasses. I am slightly short sighted, and it's only a few years ago that we found that I need glasses. While I was able to recognise most pictures on a distance, I could not see too many details, not to mention the writing (again, Indy is a great example, because I would have recognised the writing anywhere). Often I would have an image of the game in front of my inner eye, and would look for that cover. The trouble is that there sometimes are a lot of similar boxes, if you are shortsighted and without glasses. So I sometimes took a bit longer to find what I wanted. Remember: Contrast is good!

On another note I really like the german cover of "The Longest Journey". It looks really great I think.

Here's a picture:

http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/6899/thelongestjourneyfront0dt.jpg
(This is of course the cover of the 4 CD case, but the box was just the same, only a bit slimmer, with the sides being wrapped around the cardboard box.)

By the way, is this luxury folding box for germany supposed to be one of that type used for the box of Egypt III? If yes, than I am thrilled. Those are great!

And I know that "The Black Mirror" and "The Black Mirror - Deluxe Edition" (I have both :P ) were both released in the small Cardboard boxes (which are quite nice, I think. If they are real boxes, and not just box-thingumine made of corrugated cardboard inside a purdy box, like Moment of Silence was :shifty: . The ones Black Mirror came in were like the large ones, but scaled down to a height and width slightly larger than a DVD box. ).

I just looked at the box art for Keepsake. I love it, it feels kinda dreamy, what with the thoughful expression and white background.

I'm all ready for this game. :9
