Hey all,

I was wondering what your experiences have been playing the games Nightlong: Union City Conspiracy and Hopkins FBI. I've bidded on them through eBay for a while now but have never won. Are they worth my time? :)

They're both good games. Nightlong is one of the better games in the Dreamcatcher catalog. I don't know where you live, but if you're in North America, you can buy it directly from Dreamcatcher probably for cheaper than you can get it on eBay. Hopkins FBI crapped out on me after about 7 or 8 hours of play, but I was enjoying it while it lasted. It wasn't good enough to bother starting over again, though.

Edit: Oops, now I know where you live :D Just looked under your avatar.

The best option for Nightlong would be to purchase it for $9.99 from Amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00002EIZS/qid=1069912284/sr=8-4/ref=sr_8_4/104-5204047-9976702?v=glance&s=videogames&n=507846

If you can come up with an order $25 or more, you get free shipping as well.

Depends on what you like. Nightlong is a "typical" 2D-PnC-adventure with a rather dark scifi theme. If that sounds good to you you'll probably like it coz its quality is quite good. Be warned though - it has one bug which will force you to download a savegame from the net.

What bug is that? I started playing it a while back, but it was crashing on me when I entered a certain screen, so I never got any further...

It crashes when ever you enter a certain screen in the zoo. I can't remember which on it was exactly, but if it is crashing for you in the zoo you have probably hit the bug.

Yepp. The Sphinx room. It's no problem to obtain a savegame from right after it though.

:) Yes, that's exactly the place it's crashing!

Damn, so where does the savegame put you? Can I never enter that screen?

Odd. I already installed a patch before I started playing... I'll check to see if that is the case, or I screwed up somewhere.

Edit:// Ah, sorry it adds an extra savegame into it... Whoops. I thought it would have just fixed the error... :D Thanks for the help

Hopkins FBI is one of the strangest adventure games ever. It isn't good and very varying quality. It starts off well enough, but soon you realize that they had no idea how to continue their story so they went completely berzerk with it. The game features some nice-looking cutscenes. The beginning, as I mention is good and it contains the occasional good things after that too. Beware though, it is really strange and is quite bloody (it contains a really horrible (in the sense that it is very easy and very pointless) FPS mini game for example).

Wow... I didn't realize they were so cheap outside of eBay. I'll check them out. Thanks everyone :)

I bought Hopkins FBI for incredibly cheap at I think the official website .. haven't played it yet, but it seems kinda intruiging, in a cheesy and somewhat crappy way .. but considering the price I paid for it (£4.99 for a double CD with that and another game) I won't complain as long as it amuses me for an hour or two.

Hmmmm, I have mixed feelings about it. I can't recall what I disliked about it, but I remember the game wasn't always consistent story and puzzle wise.

The interface wasn't the greatest either.

It is rather cool, especially at the beginning. And the story has it's points, but it is a rather crazy and absurd story, so don't expect to grasp it. There is simply no logic to the things that happens. And for some reason I got the feeling that they begun with making the cutscenes and then made some game in between. :) It is possible to like the game, but I wouldn't recommend it without a serious caution first.

@Tamz: I bought Hopkins FBI for 10 kr (about €0.90). I think it is the single cheapest game I ever bought.

Hmm...
Hopkins FBI is an average game.Poor story.Poor voice acting.Semi-Decent graphics. And lots of violence.A bit of nudity too.
I like it a lot. :D

The soundtrack was cool too.

Hopkins is a very bad game, IMHO. Almost everything in it is on a very low level plus very unattractive violence scenes. Even the main hero has nothing for which we can remember him as a unique hero. Idiotic game, don't waste your time and money on it.

*shrug* I've heard enough conflicting opinions to be intruiged. I'll get to trying it sometime in the next 20 years ...

I don't remember needing a savegame in Nightlong. I remember the sphinx room working fine. Maybe I used a patch, I don't remember, but definitely NOT a savegame because I'm against using other people's savegames.
Nightlong is a good Italian cyber punk 3rd person pnc adventure game. Hopkins FBI is a French oddity. It's a nice SciFi detective 3rd person pnc adventure game, but make sure you don't get the censored UK version. If you do get that one, you can get a patch wich uncensors the game (or just edit a certain file manually)

I enjoyed Nightlong, and I did have to get a patch, but my problem was always crashing in the bus terminal ( or whatever is was ) no problems in the zoo area.

I had no crashes when I played Nightlong.
I played it in Win 98.
I've heard there is a problem with the Sphinx room if you play it using Win ME or XP and that the "patch" is actually a saved game that is past the crash point.
