Little Big Adventure 2?

I was wondering whether "Little Big Adventure 2" (also had various other names, "Twinsen's Odyssey" was one of them I believe) was considered to be an "adventure game".

It certainly wasn't a puzzle game like your typical Lucasarts game. But it sticks in my mind as something than more than just an "action" game. The whole thing was beautiful. It was colourful, atmospheric, absorbing, with an engaging storyline... I retain really fond memories of it in the same way as I do with any adventure game that I've played and loved.

What do other people think of it? Are there any other games which are similar to it that you would recommend?

One of the best games ever? Yes.

An adventure game? No.

It doesn't HAVE to be an AG to be a good game, you know. And you should definetly try Beyond Good & Evil. It gives you the same warm, fuzzy feeling in your stomach.

Well, SOME PEOPLE(fans) consider it to be adventure.
But its not. Rather good game though. Exept its almost impposible to aim and you have to do all by hands.

I don't know what the hell LBA2 is, but I would say it's one of the most unique games I've ever played.

It certainly has a lot of adventure qualities, but also has a lot of other stuff too. The thing I loved most about this game is the freedom and non-liniarity, which I suppose is touch of RPG.

It was pretty huge as well, with different planets to explore, each of which had different Islands.

I still deeply regret that I never did get the chance to play the first one.

I'm 'some people'... but it depends on your definition. Anyway, as Garyos pointed out, it's one of the greatest games ever.

The atmosphere, the characters, the worlds, the smooth gameplay... everything about it is just absolutely genius. Try the first one as well. It has some flaws but it can easily stand side by side with the sequel. Worth noting though is that with the WinXP patch most of the flaws (bad saving, running into walls, etc) are gone.

as far as i'm concerned, it's adventure although not a traditional one. actually, it's my second favorite adventure of all times, blade runner being my favorite.

I've never been too sure of how to define this either, since it mixes game genres, but let's just say, I was attracted to it mainly because of it's adventure game elements... Great game though, despite having perhaps a bit too much combat for my liking. Incidentally, I found the first LBA to be far more combat based, mixing RPG and platform more than anything, and hence, I much preferred the second game..

Action-Adventure

I simply class it as an Action-Adventure game, thus I still call it an adventure.

There has been a lot of discussion about what games can be classed as adventure, but at the end of the day – it’s down to personal preference.

Seeing as the adventure game genre is on thin ice, we can’t be too picky…

I loved LBA but never played it's sequel. Hmmm.

myhrik 03-19-2004 04:22 PM

I don't care what it is, as long as I know it's one of the greatest games ever. :)

Glenn Epic 03-19-2004 07:06 PM

It is a classic.

Garyos,

It's funny you should say that. I too got the LBA feeling while playing Beyond Good & Evil. It's great!
I wonder if anyone from the LBA/LBA2 team were involved in the BG&E production.

I must admit, i've really never given this game a second thought. With all this positive attention it's been getting, and now with people liking the game to LBA, I guess I should really try giving it a go, so i'm downloading the demo right now.

:) Good for you! I think LBA2 works up to Windows Me, but I'm not sure about XP. It's a shame that the original is just too outdated to be played on most computers. It makes me wish I kept my old computer which I was only to keen to thorw away when the new one arrived!

Just to straighten out any confusion, I was actually referring to Beyond Good and Evil, not LBA2 which i've played on many occasions and absolutely love. For the record it does work on XP, perfectly.

Ooops, sorry!

 I really should read posts more carefully and drink more coffee!

LBA1 and LBA2 are action-adventure. Unlike Tomb Raider, the LBA games are true action-adventure games.

Tomb Raider is considered as an action-adventure by many, but it just isn't...

BG&E is one of the most awesome games I've played in a long time. I'm not usually a 'console game' player (even though I got the PC version, you know what I mean), but I loved BG&E. And yeah, it does definitely have an LBA2 feel. It's a lot prettier and less... French (even though it was made by the French, the same guy that did Rayman, in fact).

ChaosFish 03-22-2004 02:44 AM

What's wrong with french games?
The best games are french IMO...
