archived preview: Zelenhgorm

Zelenhgorm is an ambitious project to say the least. Produced by the Swedish company Moloto, this game promises to be something different. Very different. In fact, I won't be quite sure what to think of it until I play the full version, so odd is its nature.

The game engine is similar to that used in Black Dahlia. You have the ability to rotate your viewpoint 360 degrees, and during the gameplay you view cutscenes done in FMV(Full Motion Video) with live actors. In fact, the game features over 140 actors, including several from the Star Wars series and others who have been featured in theater, television shows and miniseries throughout Europe. They've already filmed enough to fill at least 4 separate games in this series. The first of these is entitled The Great Ship and will soon be made available for purchase online. There are plans to later release the game in retail outlets worldwide.

In this first game, you are thrown into the world of Zelenhgorm through the character of Arrikk Vaheirr. Arrikk is a young man from a tribe of fishermen known as the Deyree. This is one of the many races that populate Zelenhgorm and you will become acquainted with many of them over the course of your adventure. Your character is looked at by the other villagers with extreme superstition because they believe you to have supernatural or magical powers. Many years ago a great war erupted to suppress those who possessed such powers. Throughout your journey, you learn along with Arrikk what happened in the past that has brought about the cultures' current state of fear and ignorance.

This a promising interactive adventure with elements of film and epic fantasy. It features a beautifully realized world, real actors and an interesting concept. This is definitely a product you will want to check out if you are looking for something that is a bit beyond the norm. Watch for a full review on Adventure Gamers soon!
